This was sickening.
And I am glad to see that the majority of posts have been sensible, human reactions to this senseless act of violence.
I urge people to stop using the word “retard” in relation to the victim, this can be a hurtful term. It is clear from the video that he was suffering from some form of illness, I don’t think that it is the important factor in this video.
I would also like the express my dislike of this being compared to dojo challenges that were apparently common place in times gone by.
I have read several accounts of such challenges taking place, and there are certain differences that I believe are important.
These challanges would have been between established martial artists, who presumably are of sound body and mind.
In all the accounts I have read, the challanger visited the other teacher at their school, instead of luring the teacher to unfamiliar ground under false pretences.
I have neither read nor seen an incident that ended in such senseless, needless, violence.
I would also like to point out, that “that’s the way things were” is not an excuse, reason or explantion that makes any of this less disgusting. I am not saying this is what the intention of posters are, but I thought I would write it out and make it very clear.
Of course historical perspective can be good to add some context, and it also interesting as a historical fact, but I still think my point stands.
That being said-
The victim in the video is quite clearly not a master of any art, however it is quite possible that he had studied an art at some time.
He was obviously lured into the dojo under false pretences.
He clearly did not was to come across as agressive, challanging, or anything of the sort.
He states “I do not wish to demonstrate on you, but around you”, he also suggests that kata would be a more appropriate teaching tool. He states he only wishes to teach. He tries to demonstrate, and then he is assaulted by the “black belt”, and repetedly makes efforts to defuse the violence.
It is very clear that the “sensei” and his black belt students intentions are malicious right from the start, and that it was not going to go down any other way than to mislead the victim, and then viciously assualt him.
I have no doubt what-so-ever in my mind, that had the vitcim managed to “beat” the agressor, that other members of the club would have become involved, ending in the same outcome if not worse.
