Digestion,of All things

A very basic assimilation question: Are probiotics or digestive enzymes the key to assimilating all these good nutrients? I’m having some (yeah, it can be embarassing) burping post meals. A little hardness in my upper stomach too. Am not eating huge steaks either. Appreciate any help. BTW, I’m over any indigestion caused by the loss to the Sooners last year, so its not that!

Probiotics can help if you’ve been exposed to antibiotics or have symptoms of leaky gut syndrome. In your case you might just be consuming foods that you are allergic to.

Thx, Kelly. Maybe I’ll X-out wheat, milk,&eggs and see if that makes a difference. Not a “cool” question to be sure; I guess aging is inexorable.

Yes! Take digestive enzymes with your meals to obtain the most nutrients out of your food. Most of the foods we eat today lack the digestive enzymes that should ideally be naturally occurring in the foods themselves. Probiotics are essential for absorbing nutrients further down in the digestive system (the intestines). These I would take about an hour post-meal. Digestive enzymes are also good to take with your protein shakes/MRP’s. Trust me you will notice a difference.

Erin I used to be on that bandwagon. I jumped on it for ‘health’ and took a bunch of crap. I thought it did stuff and it might really have. Am I going the big C 20 years down the road because I didn’t take some crap the supplement companies told me I needed? I doubt it. My advice, keep your foods as unrefined as possible. I have found very few wheat products that are not refined in some way, so to make sure I don’t eat any wheat at all; I’ve tried cutting eggs and milk from my diet, it didn’t do anything. If you just want some enzymes with it, eat some yogurt with your high insulin meals.

Thanks folks, for your help. I think I’ll try to live the basics, visit the produce section more often, eat smaller portions, some yougurt and try some enzymes. Again, thanks.
