yes, on stationary!
That makes it sound too easy Charlie. If I told myself that I would choose nothing. ![]()
Sorry your having a rough time Cal.

Oo I didnāt know they had a doggie walker attacher thingy. Iāll keep that in mind as soon as I can get a dog.
Hmm cardio, good stress reliever too, do some for me too please.
Betty, Iām very supportive of the cardio experiment. But start it out slow so you donāt burn out on it. The walks are a great first step. Try that for a week and then add to it.
Well, Iāve been walking the dog this way for 3 weeks.
(no change in weight)
So in come the spin classes. And laterā¦evening cardio wahhhh. Hubby says as soon as he is given the go ahead he is going to get into the gym!
Spin class this morning was fun, a good refresher. Definitely āfelt,ā it. Knees didnāt hurt WHILE I was working but they are sore now. Going to rest and put a heating pad to them. You would think they would be achey on the front but there is a certain spot on the medial side of my left knee specifically that has been hurting more often. Probably the ligament there.
I think I need to go back to PT since they were making me work more than I make myself.
Yay! Glad to see things moving for you, MIM.
Iām very excited to see this cardio experiment commence!
Hopefully so.
I was down for the count after I posted that about my knees yesterday. I iced/heated for hours with no luck.
My ortho guy said that if whatever I do is worth the pain then I should do it? sounds pervy.
Iām gonna need some pretty strong pain killers.
I still took the pupp out for his walk yesterday evening. Deciding to try out a longer walk only to get caught in a surprise blizzardā¦haha!!
dog walk fail.
I started to feel some tweaks in my knees and started foam rolling around them as part of my warm up. It has made a difference⦠not sure if this was suggested?
It was not suggested but I will try anything.
Hey girl hey! Keep the am cardio. Personally I would not do a second steady state every day. I think two or three days that have HOOT as the second cardio will be more effective.
HOOT??
haha
hey mim-do you have a heart rate monitor?
nope

Blizzard! What does the puppy think of the snow? Its always kind of cute the way they either get all excited or confused by it.

Keep warm MiMsy!

LOL!!! All the lolcat picsā¦
Hey mama! I think your making some sound decisions with the knees. I also think a really good bet is to keep being hyper-dilligent with everything.
So def keep foam rolling and massaging the legs (around the knee caps and the IT bands on the sides of the legs), ice/heat (btw, iām surprised by the heat. Was that reccomemnded by the PT?) when needed, and Iād suggest definitely keeping in the yoga-type stuff.
My thinking is since youāre trying to protect your knees, youāre going to want to be sure that your gait is as normal as possible and that other parts of your body arenāt tight (your back and flexors, for example). With that, youāre going to also want to make sure that your body is trained to fire muscles correctly, no? So no compensating when/if there is pain. Make sense? thoughts?
Also, you can get in some pretty good eliptical workouts in! (assuming elliptical doesnāt hurt) Iāve started doing them myself to save my knees. Something like:
Resistance 10 - no incline
5 min warmup
5 min @ 150 strides per minute
1 min rest @ 120 spm
4 min @ 165 spm
1 min rest @ 120
3 min @ 175
1 min rest @ 120
2 min @ 180
1 min rest
1 min @ 190
6 30 sec sprints at 200 spm with half min rest in between
Enjoy!
The heat was not recommended but I thought it felt good. Is that bad? blush
Hi MT- hard to tell. He was more excited because I broke into a run to get home fast!
There is a lot that goes into managing pain. I need to come up with a basic plan.
rolling
massaging
stretching
icing
yoga?
keeping other parts strong
argh
Im going to try the elliptical tomorrow to see if it makes the same pain come on as did spinning. To be fair I did not warm up aside from walking the dog before I got there.
Actually I did so some stretching while I was waiting! And stretching after. And then when I got home I was hurting and was icing/heating for a good while.
Iād like to throw out another idea for getting your cardio thing on. What about kettle bell swings and some oly lifts(kept light for reps) Maybe you could make up a circut that gets the heart pumping but doesnāt hurt the knee. Obviously leaving out the snatch and maybe going with the more power versions of the lifts(as in not squatting all the way under the bar). Can you manage a quarter squat with your knees? Also as you are okay with walking what about weighted walks either back pack, sand bags, farmers walks?
That sounds fun Charlie!
what kind of oly lifts could I do that leaves out the knee? KB swings are tricky.
I can quarter squat, yaā¦thats about it until I āfeel,ā it. Iām not inclined to ADD weight to my body when Iām supposed to be LOSING weight to relieve pressure ont the joints etc.
