Dig Through the Ditches

Training:

rehabby stuff

5 min eliptical…then:

5 rounds for time!
6 BW rows(TRX)
6 incline pushups
10 BW squats(they didn’t suck!)

8 minutes,oh well…wasn’t pushing myself and was focusing on form.

Then:
gg/bg 2x15
Lat raise/bent over lat raise- 2x12

5 minutes on bike(3min at hard level)
5 minutes walking treadmill(up hill)

I quit the walking program I did for all of one week. I’m not convinced that plodding along on a treadmill for extended periods of time is all that great for someone with knee tracking issues.
The program I was following eventually calls for 45+ min…can’t see myself committing to that.

Scj- ya, I’ve read up on raising the dose slowly…but without a knowledgeable docs guidance I didn’t feel comfy doin that. Also I think the low feritin/VIT d3 are affecting me and working against the new meds.

I have faith my new Dr. will take care of me and we’ll figure all this out. I’m interested to find out her take on this RT3 stuff…and that is one of the required tests they do. I already know mine is high. Maybe I don’t need quite so much T4 as I do T3. But taking T4 completely out?? Need more research on my part.

Man, that energy I felt was incredible though ! I was 20 years old again!! Hope to get back to that eventually.

Patchypatch- Cal is a smart cookie. I don’t push past the sharp pains but I stopped doing anything at all because I got creeped out. That was my bad… Need to get over it.

Happy with Todays squats!!! No pain.

In the spirit of getting my legs back I thought I’d post some proof that YES! I used to do all those glorious leg things(squatting, lunging) etc.

Something to get back to maybe???

I want those legs back thats fo sho!

My BW squat!!! I ended that year with…good feeling!

Hey mimz… I saw your post in Hallowed’s log about Armour working for a week, then getting nothing out of it. It may well be that you just haven’t found the right dose yet. However, another theory would be that your body “adjusted”, meaning it felt the influx of new FT3, and decided it “needed” to upregulate RT3 production to compensate… since armour has T4 in it, it had ample T4 laying around to make more RT3 with.

Also, with hashi’s, even if you have the perfect dose of the perfect drug, you will feel alternatingly good and bad sometimes. Occasionally, as your thyroid is being destroyed, a wave of T4 can spill into your bloodstream, which your body hastily converts to FT3/RT3 and lots of screwy things can happen with your mood, energy, etc.

You aren’t gonna find the perfect drug and dose on your first shot (unfortunately), but you’re moving in the right direction if you feel better for any amount of time.[/quote]

piratedoctor approves this post.
Fukkin hashi’s. boo.
you’ll get there. you will. you will get better.

TAKE T FOUR COMPLETLEY OUT if your doc will go for it.
ALL that T four does is convert. It converts to T3 or to RT3. thats it. If you TAKE T3 you don’t need t4. AND you remove the extra RT3 because there is nothing to make it from. I now have undetectable levels of RT3… and my doc likes it that way. Let me see if I can find you some literature on this from Holtorf. PM me your email I don’t think I have a note of it.

SANKYOU <3

Great news that you got a prescription to use those lovely legs of yours!

WARNING WARNING WARNING

Fitness shit and diet talk ahead.

I figured out maybe why I haven’t been able to lose weight(aside from dumb thyroid) is that I am not creating a big enough deficit.

When I was younger, 20-21(pre kids!!) I was active all day long…From the time I woke til I sat down for a couple hours before bed.
I was all about my diet. And funnily enough I was going off a list of foods a personal trainer gave me and told me not to eat. I also read a ton of magazines.

I started the day off WITH breakfast! I didn’t drink coffee first thing like I do now.
I had yogurt, fiber one, and a banana all mixed up.
I’d take two pieces of fruit with me to work to eat if I got hungry before lunch.
Lunch was a salad or something like that.
I’d have something small before the gym when I got off work(I went to the gym 7 days a week, LOL!)
-something after(protein shake)
Then Dinner.
And a small snack if I wanted.

I never cheated or felt deprived. I hardly counted calories. I didn’t even have access to the internet accept to email my husband.
I didnt know about lo carb this or gluten free that.
I treated myself once a week or so with take out or ice cream, etc.

About the only thing I haven’t done in the last several years is cardio cause I hate it.
It would make sense to try. At least to recreate that staying active part. Going to the gym has just become part of my routine. Im not getting results from it.

now that Im older I have to work harder to burn up more cals. Otherwise Im just maintaining. I just hope I haven't damaged my metabolism too much and that the only way to lose is to drop the calories ridiculously low.

You can see the direction I am heading in.

I’ll post more as I make progress.

You’re older…HA

Hi Betty

Have you read anything by Jen Comas Keck? She keeps a log on elitefts. She’s been struggling with her diet for a long time. But, she has he resources to hire nutrition coaches. She’s making progress. But, it’s been a long and not always clear road for her.

http://articles.elitefts.com/articles/nutrition/how-to-find-the-right-nutrition-coach/

If what you have been doing isn’t working. Trying something else sounds like a good play.

This is the year for you to get healthy. My heart breaks for you. It’s so easy for me. I (largely) know what I need to do to get where I want to go. It’s just a matter of being disciplined and putting the time in. For you, to wake up in the morning and have to ask–what should I be doing? Well, that’s a whole different game. Much harder. YOur log is inspiring, Mim. There’s no quit in you. YOu’ll find your way I’m sure.

I actually have recently contacted her and she is going to do nutrition coaching for me, and at a pretty reasonable price, in my opinion. Once I start I can keep you updated on how it is, but so far she is super responsive and positive.

Mmmm, those hammies, you’re lucky I’m not a cannibal.

Ct- yes, it happens to us mortals.
But it makes sense, no??

Nadia- It’s just not going to be as easy as it was back in the day. Gonna have to get nasty!
never read anything about that girl but have the link open now…thanks! I relate to a lot of what she went through.

Cho- how awesome for you! I’d love to hear how it goes. I’ve hired a ‘coach,’ before and that’s when I discovered all this thyroid stuff.
I was following everything she said to do, was in the gym doing the training and nadda. I was devastated. (and broke!)

MT- those squats hurt just lookin at em.
Thanks!

Okay MIMS I’m sorry but I have to do this to you again.

NO. THE REASON YOU CANNOT LOSE WEIGHT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH NOT ENOUGH DEFICIT.
NO.
NO.
NO.

YOU CANNOT LOSE WEIGHT because you do not have enough T3.

PERIOD.

Do you know that I spent six months on an average of 1000 calories a day (1500 calories one day the UP day/500 calories the next day the DOWN day) when my thyroid was crashed and during that time period lost NOT ONE SINGLE POUND?! Fuck calories and Fuck deficits. YOU NEED T3.

PLEASE stop fucking with your diet until you get some goddamned T3.
YES I understand the mindfuck I do. I do. I have been there I have done the craziest shit out of desperation… but guess what no results except mental anguish.

You need T3 there is nothing nothing nothing more to it.
FIN.

oye on the hormones…

love the vids - something positive to aim for and that wasn’t so long ago either.

I’m still reading your diet stuffs ya know :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I lost the biggest amount of my weight without ANY thyroid replacement.

So how do I know when I’ve got enough T3? a year from now? 2-3 years? I don’t think it’s that easy to say. And it just levels the playing field is all.

you still gotta put in the work.

I think for now before I get all diet crazy I’m going to work on RAISING my cals with cardio. starting with at least 30 min a day(for myself) not including walking the dog, etc.

With the raised cals I can then begin to work my way down when needed. Kind of in limbo. Had high hopes of having this weight GONE by Spring. :frowning:

I know you’re super frustrated right now, but I think you’re too damn hard on yourself!! I think you’re inspiring, cause you know what? A lot of people with thyroid issues use it as an excuse to be overweight, or to continue indulging and doing NOTHING about it!

But you’re trying everything and you’re looking for a solution and THAT is SUPA awesome!

Hang in there! I hope you get stuffs sorted out.

Hi Betty! Getting out and about and moving around more is a great idea for many reasons, calorie burning among them. It will be bike riding season soon, so maybe that!

Agreed, burn calories rather than remove 'em. And don’t beat yourself up. I wanted to be doing another half marathon this year but with my foot and my achilles, somehow I doubt it’ll happen. So yes, I understand frustration. I really do. Just try to find satisfaction in other things rather than focus on the disappointments.
But I really hope you get the thyroid sorted soon.

mimsy!! how’s that pooch? i’m way behind on your log but afraid to try to load pages on this funky internet connection i have.

i DO see some lovely leg of yours. I’d like more!!

Spock- I was having a convo with the hubbs the other day about how I am lucky not to have piled on the weight during all this. But do thyroid people find out they have a thyroid problem and just magically gain weight overnight? Or do they get depressed, stressed, FATIGUED, start eating more, moving less AND THEN they gain weight? I can see that. Im glad I had good eating habits already in place and I was staying fairly active in the gym(even though on most days I felt like a zombie)
There’s always a solution. Can’t go around it, over it or under it…just gotta get THROUGH it.(quoted somewhat from “we’re going on a Bear hunt.”)

Kim- yes, biking!! can’t wait!! I was getting really into it before the cold months hit(and you know what? its been a fairly ‘mild,’ winter so far.)

Cal- you’ve been through a lot too. Thanks for your support. And burn cals rather than remove them. I like that!!

Hi Brute! the Pooper is doing well. Still so much to learn about being in our pack. But we’re learning as we go together. I would classify him as medium-high energy. Not aggressive but VERY playful. Doesn’t try to dominate but won’t let others dominate him? I’ve been taking him to puppy playtime at PETCO and he has a blast!!
This pup requires THREE WALKS A DAY!! lol…after every nap and before he eats. He WORKS for his food(and so do I, lol) Walking him has been frustrating because he wants to pull and run and be a dog!! He’s getting better though, day by day. I think he would like trotting along side of me on a bike. Any tips on that? Should we learn how to walk properly first??
When we get some extra money I want to do the paid training. I really want the best for this dog. We’ve messed up in the past and given up too soon on other dogs…I don’t want to do that again.
