Dig Through the Ditches

Yeah, I’ve suffered from neck pain for a couple years. Mine is a good mixture of one of the top vertebrae being a little locked up and my scaps and traps storing golf ball sized knots. I found lax balling the knots (super painful but feels sooo good after) and doing a couple neck strengthening exercises have helped keep my tension headaches at bay.

Exercise one is the laying chin tuck. Lay in bed with your head flat on the mattress. Tuck your chin down to your chest making sure to keep the back of your head touching the mattress. It’s a very tiny movement but I’ve felt lots of little bones pop back with this.

Exercise two is what I named the windshield wiper. Get on your hands and knees and make sure your neck is in a neutral position. Rotate your head to the right, keeping a neutral position, and hold for three seconds. Do this 10 times then rotate to the left 10 times.

Not sure if these will help you at all (depends on the problem) but it never hurts to give it a shot, right?

I’ve learned to adjust my own neck. It makes a lovely pop. I’m not sure that’s a good thing… The other thing you can do is just bend down (or hang from something) and rotate your neck. It feels lovely.
Also, Google Levator stretches - those always help. My levators are chronically tight.

Lex!
Thanks for the suggestions…I know about the different flours. I choose to bake with regular unbleached whole grain flour though. (the baking is for the Kids…and there not trying to go gluten free  ) I just need to learn to keep my paws off. The other flour are more expensive as well. I’ve baked with buckwheat before and made almond meal bread without much argument though,
It also helps to continually remind myself WHY, I choose to abstain. Because I have an autoimmune disorder and there is a lot of info linking gluten to it. Which also causes joint problems(which I have) and headaches, lethargy etc And because when I was a toddler I had an intolerance to it and the Dr’s said I would “grow out of it.” Dr’s can be dumb and I don’t think you just grow out of it.

Reading different books and websites can easily solidify anyone’s decision to at least try, even if just for a couple weeks.

Cal and Pix! Thanks for those tips…I will try them ASAP!!!
Pixie- have you been seen by a chiro? THats gonna be my next step after exhausting all efforts for at least a month. We’re going to be doing a lot of traveling in the Summer and I need my neck to drive!
… Cal- I can’t come anywhere close to being able to crack my neck anymore…I try but it gets stuck. Like my neck would break if I tried any further. I can tell when I’ve gone a day or two without my ‘lax ball.’ (I use a baseball)
What kind of pillows do you sleep with?

Aww you bake your own bread? You’re such an awesome mom, ha-ha. I remember when I was a little girl, the smell of the kitchen from my momma’s bakin’.
I think she got carpal tunnel or something from kneeding so much doe though, heh. I don’t even OWN flour. I think my kid hates how clean I keep our cupboards…

Cal’s stretches helped my neck a lot when it was bothering me. I looked into pillow issues too. I got one with a bit more neck support. Mine hasn’t been bothering me since so maybe it worked?

Getting off the carb train. Break time is OVER.
I got on the scale this morning and I have gained 9 POUNDS in a month. I know some of that has to be water cause my pants still mostly fit.

I wonder if my new meds are also messing with me.

Spock- It’s a fairly new thing I’m trying(making bread)
so far so GOOOOOD!

I just need not to eat it :frowning:

Along with the cookies, granola bars, and granola…DOH.

I love making our own food stuffs though. (even if I can’t eat it) I feel better that my kids are getting good food.

I went to a chiro way back in the day and decided I didn’t like it. It didn’t really help me at all and the guy scared the heck out of me. Didn’t tell me what he was doing while he was adjusting stuff. I just found it really painful.

It was probably the chiro I went to but I’m super leery of them, nowadays. You can mess up a lot of stuff if you pop something the wrong way.

It could be your meds. I was always told to let things settle when going on meds before freaking.

I’ve only been to 1 or 2 chiros that were good, I wouldn’t trust the rest of them although they did no real harm (I think). Although the really good one kept trying to convert me to Scientology.

Betty, if your clothes still fit then you probably haven’t gained alot of “real” weight. You’ve struggled with your eats for as long I’ve been here with you. I think YOU know your body pretty well by now. So I would bet good money that you’ll figure out a plan that works for you.

Congrats on all the good news lately! My hubby first got into the gym when he was rehabbing a broken ankle. Maybe the knee situation will be the motivation he needs to join you in your training.

went did the gym and did
3xamrap pushups
3xamrap band pull ups

and the first day of the 8 week walking program

30 min @ 3.0- 1% incline…damn that was boring…I deserve a cookie. (j/k)
starting from the very beginning.

I got on the treadmill at the gym this morning and I kid you not there was literally a cookie on it. I wonder if someone was saving it as a PWO reward then decided against it.

A little bit like dirt, and maybe a tad too salty, but overall not bad.

Ahahahahahahaha! I’m such a cookie monster. I’d totally use that as a reward system

MinMsy

you so deserve a cookie
BW stuff is kick ass.
nice work.

good news about your husbands rehab too.

I might go gluten free for a while or at least clean up
the holiday carb situation

I meant to answer your question about pillows
sorry for getting back so late

I had a traction pillow for a while- awesome- but only good if you sleep on your back

now I have like a memory foam pillow
I have two different kinds- (its complicated )
one is shaped like a figure 8 on its side the other is just a regular pillow
with tiny pieces of memory foam

the first kind is if you sleep on your side
the other is just a nice low profile firm pillow

they have helped me , they might be expensive
I also changed up to a latex mattress on a platform style bed

for people who are scared of chiros or had weirdos-
is sad I have had amazing - truly life altering goodness from chiropractors

for what ever reason chiropractic attracts allot of huxters

do you have TMJ ? or jaw pain
