Dig Through the Ditches

Maybe you SHOULD’VE been a DR! It’s never too late!! I have a friend who is actually doing all the pre-reqs and is applying to medical school next year! She’s 38.

Seems like I don’t have enough time in the day to mess around with other extracurricular places on the net. Those groups have piles and piles of info, files and messages…makes it really hard to sort through.

I did however get a really good book that is written by and for patient advocates. It basically has everything in it you should know and how and what to ask your Dr. It should help!!

And I made it back from the gym!! Oh Gym darling, how I have missed you.

Not bad considering I’m still getting over my cold, I slept like poo last night and I did it sans energy drink!!
The music blasting in my ears helped.

Shoulders/back

Lat PD- 5x5x75

Lat raise machine- 4x8x20

Military Press-(it’s been awhile!!!)
5x5x55
not bad But I used to rep with 80…booo.
Trying to work my way back up without my shoulder bitching at me.

Straight arm PD- 4x10x40

Tri-set
3x12
lat raise- 5s
Front lat raise- 5s
Seated Db pres- 25s
is it cheating that I was sitting on a high inclined bench???
cause I even surprised myself with the 25s since I haven’t done em in a long time

Band pull ups- 3x5,4,3
Thick blue band…me want one for my home…Good places to get??

Standing pull to chest with Big V handle
4x8x70

Superset
3x12
standing lat raise- 5s
bent over raise- 5s

10 minutes on bike to ‘grease the groove.’ Gonna take my bike out later…so spring like today! But it’s not going to last :frowning:

overall, my energy was good. Good thing about not having energy drinks is that I don’t feel like I’m crashing.

And I trained fasted. Well, i had a helping of an assortment of pills…aleve, tylenol, bcaas, fish oil.
lol

I think I may like this eating the day before thing. But what happens if you train everyday? lol
I guess you would still cycle cals??

I plan on gyming it every other day.

Eventually adding in cardio days. And then closer to spring add two a days. Assuming I’m on the road to thyroid recovery.

So it could like:

M- am/lift
pm/ cardio

Tues- long cardio

W- lift
cardio

etc etc

I want to be ripped damnit.

OOOOH…I just took my temp and I’m ALIVE!!! 98.4
That’s the highest I’ve seen it these last few weeks. Lifting makes me come alive.

Glad you’ve decided to take control of the aspects of your health you can control. I know the thyroid thing is an umbrella issue over everything thing, but getting a handle on caffeine and food seems like it’ll help a lot too.

As a cheese lover, I have no problem meeting caloric goals ever. Really string cheese is where it’s at. 10pm and 200 calories left to eat? String Cheese!

oh ya…string cheeeeeese!!! Cottage cheese is good too. But I’m very picky and only want one certain brand which our budget can not afford. I was eating FRIENDLY’s brand 2 for $5 at Giant food stores. But I was eating like 6 of em a week!!!

Goin to the store here in a bit too. Thanks for the reminder.

ya, it feels good to have some semblance of health. Only thing missing is the right Dr to hook me up with the right meds.

I put a little bit of crushed pineapple in the cottage cheese and it works towards covering the taste of off brands. I also buy lots when it goes on sale, and freeze. I’m probably around 3 tubs a week consumption.

Oh my SOLDIER! I am so proud of you. You WILL get this doc thing sorted eventually I PWOMISE. In the meantime tracking food is the abso best thing for you. NO GUESSING! SO much better to really know what happens at various macros and calorie levels.

Also getting in the gym when you’re up to it but please please please don’t wear yourself down. I know you will want to punch me for saying this because I have totally been where you are but MAINTAINING your weight right now with unoptimized thyroid IS A WIN. ITS A WIN.

LOL! I am a Cottage Cheese snob too! I love the Breakstone kind! Patch’s pineapple is a good idea but I also add a little unsweetened applesauce to it.

You mentioned that you eat Greek Yogurt. Not sure if you are a Costco member but FAGE is the BEST brand and they have the giant tub for like $5.00. Compared to everywhere else it is the best deal. They have the Kirkland Brand too but i haven’t had that. Try greek yogurt with one splenda, vanilla extract, cinnamon and crushed almonds or walnuts. So good and surprisingly filling!

Just tossing out what works for me. I love getting other ideas! Keeps things fresh, you know?

I’m a little embarrassed to admit that I probably take in about 3,000 calories a day. But I’ve never counted. I’m a bit baffled by all the calorie/carb cycling talk. I don’t understand the concepts. Funny that I’m so obsessed with powerlifting but largely ignore nutrition, which has to play a big role in any athletic pursuit.

I will follow more closely since you obviously know WAY more than I do about these things. I’d love to have a nutritionist design my diet for awhile. Probably would be radically different than the way I eat.

FWIW, it’s really easy to make your own yogurt. If you go through a lot, it might be worth a try.

Hallie- ooh, keep talking. I almost believe you!! I’m trying to stay optimistic…
I go to the gym to feel ALIVE. I’m already worn down, ha!

Patch-- I eat more yogurt than I do cottage cheese. Can you make it ‘greek?’

Catnip-hiya! I really love mixing in a flavored water packet thingy with yogurt. Lemonade is good…with some coconut…YUM!!
Or fruit punch, cherry etc. your way sounds good too!!

K!!!- how fascinating! I’ve only started keeping track myself. Stay tuned…

waving back
What are you recording your food records on? I’ve always used Livestrong.com. They have EVERYTHING on there. Plus, I can access it from my phone which is nice. Not currently tracking but I usually do it a few months really strictly and then coast for a while with my new habits and then pick it all up again just to be sure I am still eating about where I need to be.

I’m always impressed by your resolve in the face of continued obstacles. And your ability to train without energy drinks!

betty, you should try cooking your chicken in Virgin Coconut Oil… Seems like it would be kinda weird but its really good

I’ve been IFing lately and I like it a lot. Have you tried that approach to eating yet? (can’t remember if you have… if you have then sorry)

Catnip- I use fitday. I don’t switch to anything else because I have everything basically listed in fitday. ANd I’m probably the only person in the world left that doesn’t have a fancy plan or whatever you call it that has apps. I can only text, that’s it. And I JUST started doing that last year, LOL!!!

Nadia- thank you. I think my ‘career,’ as being a military wife for the last 14 years has helped.
And no energy drinks, YAY! If it’s something you really want just try it one day. You won’t know until you do it. And I KNOW you can.

Greg- nice to see you. Hope you are doing better.
I guess I do IF. But it’s more out of a habit. Been fasting long before there was a name attached to it. I’ve always been a chronic breakfast skipper or delayer. Whatever you want to call it. I don’t really see the benefits, lol, but I do it anyway cause it’s a habit.

oh and I’ve used coconut oil and milk before and like it. Thanks for the reminder!

Yesterday was a very sad food day. I had protein pancakes after the gym… then I made cauliflower with whole garlic cloves and was in pain the rest of the day. It was the garlic I believe.

my poor belly was so bloated, I looked about 5 months pregnant and the hubby and I were joking that I could be on that show ‘I didn’t know I was pregnant.’ Because I was having what felt like contractions every 5 minutes…it was HORRIBLE!

The timing would be right since he came home in February. I’d be due this month, LOL! Which is why I’ve been so tired and can’t lose weight. haha.

Well today is my day to eaaaat anyway. I’ll try to do a good job!

Here is what is on tap:

-protein pancakes

-Pot roast, with assorted veggies. I made this last night and didn’t get to eat it. Hubby said it’s the best I’ve made EVER grin

Why do I have the feeling that that alone is going to fill me up???

I also planned on making chicken pesto w/asparagus
And
Sweet n sour, peanut-y Hamgurger/cabbage thing… kinda thai inspired. (maybe save that for tomorrow)

Yup, you just strain it.
mom-in-MD wrote:
oh and about the Protein Powder, I’m looking for one that can be used like you described Kimba, is TASTY and can also be used mixed in with baking, etc.

The one I have is NOT IT. Would you recommend the Grow! whey? I don’t mind if it’s flavored.
I used the Grow Whey in natural for the longest time…mainly in the oatmeal but I also drank it on occasion. But sadly they discontinued the natural flavor. I never baked with it (baked goods are my kryptonite so I stay away from baking). Right now I’m using an expensive all-natural, horomone-free whey with no sweetening or flavoring at all. I’m thinking about ordering the vanilla flavor to try it out.

‘Healthy,’ baked goods.
Like pancakes and breads to bolster protein content. And I don’t use ‘regular,’ flour…mostly almond meal.

DAMN.
I did an experiment and drank just 1/2 can of an energy drink I had before my bike ride. And my heart is skipping and pounding away.

Bike ride was good though. MY rides are getting longer each time. Although half of it coming back was up a deceptively steep hill grade. whew.

This base was MADE for walking and biking. And the foliage right now is peaking. Very cool.

Morning MILFkins! What you got on tap today gorl?

I’ve had WAY too much caffeine this morning and think I’ll just carpet bomb PW!

EDIT to ADD my healthy baked good conrtribution: Whip egg whites into meringue add flavoring of choice this can be herbs and some parm for savory or splenda and some cocoa powder for sweet whatever you want. Bake this in mini muffin tins well sprayed with PAM.
