Dig Through the Ditches

A big cheer for that 24 minute ride! Just add two minutes every time (like I do with my runs) and you will be riding for a hour soon enough.

hey Greg- thanks!
I think I will track cals for awhile now! I’m all about eating intuitively, but I think I’ve trained myself to eat like a little wabbit.

Kimba–yay!!! can’t wait!!

So I got word from some people who have been to Bethesda(the military hospital here) for the same issues without good experiences. (the internet is such an awesome thing!!) I wrote to cancel the referral. Gawd, I’m such a pain!

I am probably going to go with a Dr I’ve been reading actual GREAT reviews about and he IS IN out network. The great thing is, is that he hypothyroid himself and is willing to explore different treatment options. I am going to mill it over for a couple more days before I make up my mind.

Oh definitely try and see that doctor if you can. And yes, the undereating isn’t going to help. Have you tried carb or calorie cycling? It might be what you need.

I’m just tired of being let down.
And now I’m reading something different about this so called good doctor. That he won’t give you copies of your tests, just says you’re ‘normal’ or ‘a little out of range’ and only does TSH, T4 and Synthroid. (sorry if that doesn’t make sense)

At this point I really don’t know what to do.
I think all doctors are going to be the same. Unless I go out of my network and pay $$$$ which isn’t possible.

Get Frenchie to smuggle some Armor over from Canada!

Ah! It sounded like such good news for you at first. But like any type of reviews, maybe if you could confirm with this doctor what people have written about him??

Congrats on the pain free ride.

temper tantrum

ya, is that possible to get phone consults with Docs nowadays? sort of like interviewing them before you decide to choose them.

This site is good:

And I can check the docs against our insurance network.

Cal- i know this Armour stuff exists here as well as T3. But I suppose you have to be on the floor not able to move, debilitated to get any help around here grumblegrumble

And I suppose you can say I am calorie/carb cycling. I had a ‘high day,’ yesterday and my weight is exactly the same. Today is a low day and I am expecting a drop tomorrow.

Well its not really done, but if you are stubborn enough you can get some info/vibe over the phone. Or sometimes talking to the front desk they might know. It all depends on their attitude of course. But if you could actually get them to answer a few questions over the phone, its usually a good chance that they would actually listen to you in person.

Especially if you are up front about not wanting to waste their time. I wouldn’t say they would talk specifically about any conditions, but certainly general questions like “do you give copies of tests”, shouldn’t be a problem (in theory).

got it dude
Thanks for the tips.

I am waiting on a list of providers in DE,NYC and PA. lol

so far none of the top reviewed Docs in MD, VA or NJ on the thyroid-info site have been listed in our network.

Go figure.

My DH is adamant that I should just go to Bethesda and what could go wrong and he would go with me, etc…
I was like, 'ya, you better go with me! Because if I get turned away with the same blahblah story and have to drive back home by myself for 2 hours, that won’t be good.

I’ll keep researching! But I have this sneaking suspicion that no good Drs are going to be worth while. It’s like Tricare picks the douchiest ones they can find. At least when it comes to this part of health.

When my daughter was sick last Winter we got excellent excellent care through Bethesda, Walter reed and then Childrens.( heart surgery)

Damn, sorry to hear about the doctor troubles…

Glad to see that you are enjoying the bike. I think riding my bike is what has kept me sane though my recovery process.

My one tip for biking (if you haven’t already) would be to learn how to clean and lube your chain. I learned this summer when I was doing a lot of trail riding. It makes such a wonderful difference.

ya, that sounds important, LS! I was a bad bike owner and left my bike out in the elements a lot last year so now it’s pretty rusty and the gear switching is a pain. I’ll probably treat myself to a new bike next Spring and learn how to take better care of it!

I went for a ride(27 minutes!) But I should worn some ear muff things. you don’t know how breezy it is until your moving along and I was going against the wind on the way back.

I hopped off my bike and took a walking lap around the block. Then I practiced some squats and did a couple other random bw leg things. Squats don’t hurt all the time but all the grinding and what not is very very distracting and depending on the day will end up hurting later on.
I’m looking forward to seeing what I can get away with doing though!

The health care manager lady obliged and sent me lists of all providers from here to NYC, lol. Do I really want to drive all the way to NY? not really.

The military hospital situation is just for a second opinion. If they tell me what I want to hear then another referral will be put in for care there. If I hear the same story, then I think I have just one more shot.

After that it is recommended to us to go up a notch in insurance coverage. An extra $150 until I find the right Dr. but I can see whoever I want whenever I want. At least that’s how I understood it. That might work, if I had a job.

sheesh.

I know I’m not that far out of range up or down.
I’m not half dead lying on the floor.
But I don’t feel good. I’m not myself. And I just want someone to say ‘sure, we can try this to see if it helps!’

Docs, by and large, are incredibly closed minded when it comes to what the patient wants. “You didn’t go to medical school!”

It’s bullshit. You’ve done way more research on your specific situation than a doctor possibly could (or else they’d spend 10000 hours a week researching all their patients). Having a good idea about YOUR SPECIFIC situation does not mean you would make a better doctor… some take it personally though.

Like I’ve said before, it’s the same in the UK. Our glorious National Health Service is not what it’s cracked up to be.
Wishing you luck in your quest to feel better.

I got my WHOOOSH!

Down 4lbs since last Wed. I had been stuck at that same number FOREEEEEVER! Not anymore.

I know veggie fast, freakin insane right? But I don’t care. It’s working! Thyroid people don’t need as many calories anyway cause they can’t metabolize as well.

At the end of the day it’s all about the calories anyway, right? At least I think so. On a couple of my ‘UP,’ days I have eaten foods that I’ve restricted for a long long time and the scale does not budge the next.(like as much cheesecake as I wanted one night) yep, I learned how to make my own.nomnomnom!!!

Thanks Scj and Cal.

I have to stay optimistic. I am bringing the hubby with me so I don’t shut down. It’s easier to speak up. But maybe it will be ok and like a miracle the Dr will just agree with me!

I was teasing the other day saying maybe my calling is to become an Endocrinologist.

WOOHOOOO!!! WHOOSH!

Freaking awesome MiM! Interesting on the Veg fast…i see a juicer in your future - and no that’s a device not a giant hulking beefcake…altho you’re hubby is pretty studly

And I’m with you, calories in and calories out is what makes the difference.

Keep moving on that doc situ, and great idea to bring the hubby. I find when I go to docs I get all flustered, its good to have another set of ears and to voice opinions etc.

Things are looking up for our Beautiful Betty! YAY!

Maschy!!!
I’d be too lazy to juice. I like chewing!!

I make this awesome veggie soup!!

7oz baby carrots
7oz zuchinni
7oz cauli
1 onion
1/2 cup chick peas

cooked in a can of rotel, v8 and about a cup of water. Add garlic and cilantro. So filling and so YUMMY!

Things tend to be looking up slightly. I still can’t manage to get a good nights sleep and that only magnifies my already existing fatigue. wah.

I tried out some light goblet squats. I can get down with those and eventually front squats. But will I be shunned if I go just to parallel or above??
Any further and it starts hurrrrrrting. But I figure something is better than nothing?
And maybe with good knee sleeves or something I can get back eventually.

Of course not! You’re not competing in PL so don’t compare yourself to powerlifters. We all have to work around our limitations so do what you can. Considering all you’re having to deal with, your training efforts are inspiring.
