After starting and reading this thread its become apparent I’m not alone.
Absolutely not. Not even close. The majority of men that deal with these types of issues dont talk about it. To much pride. Embarrassment. Ect ect. For me it just seems the higher my testosterone the harder it is to climax and to make that happen I have to have really really hard sex. It wipes me out completely. I’m so freaking exhausted by the time I climax. To the point I’m literally laying there thinking “jesus christ I need to do some cardio” lol.
That’s why no sex or masterbation before prolactin lab. I would say at least 8 hours.
Other things can cause prolactin to go up that affect labs like playing/holding a baby.
@alldayeveryday - Just a slightly different opinion … Men dealing with anorgasmia simply accept it and “deal with it” as there is almost ZERO medical data on the topic. Premature ejaculators can get help in dozens of places – men suffering the opposite … not so much.
You mentioned that it took “really hard sex” to orgasm … be happy, as there is another segment of the population that might only orgasm 1 out of 3 sessions. In my case, I am exhausted (as you mention), but I give up. “It was fun, I enjoyed it, got to exercise with a cutie” … but I am wiped.
I have not checked prolactin in over a year … My range was 9-12 (on a 4-15 scale). Maybe it is time to check again.
Hey I’m not complaining. Just noting for reference. I’m happy to say that I always climax. Right now anyways. There were times when that wasnt the case. My wife isnt complaining. She likes it rough. Last Friday I took the wife out for a few drinks. I had three beers. It took over an hour of straight sex to climax. That was a bit much. I got there but it wore us both out. Alcohol definitely makes matters worse.
Alcohol and over eating will definitely make it worse. I laugh for I’ve said the same exact thing after a marathon event, need more cardio.
I have noticed that variations in injection amounts, 0.1, 0.15, 0.2 ml of 200mg 3 times a week has made a difference for me. Increasing and decreasing testosterone seems to increase libido and the ability to act upon that libido. I also inject 250 units of HCG 3 times a week between test injections
I’m sure everyone saw this, but I was looking around again …
@charlie12 — Actually, it would be quite interesting to take the blood test immediately after masturbation; which would show just how high prolactin surges. I doubt many blood labs would be ok with you cranking one out in the bathroom though.
What I DID NOT know is that serotonin can be prescribed to prevent PREMATURE EJACULATION. So Roscoe88’s comment make so much sense … high serotonin slows, delays or prevents orgasm/ejactulation.
Again, doing some reading about dopamine and what increases dopamine (since we can agree that dopamine is GOOD for orgasm).
I found this thread from 2011 that no one posted on. Funny how different a few years can make since we are at 148 posts on this thread.
I looked at L-tyrosine. 500mg/day to start, increasing to 3x per day depending on results. Dopamine gains are short-lived; and it can cause havoc on other things … especially those with thyroid issues. Tyrosine is the #1 most mentioned method of increasing dopamin.
L-Dopa/Mucuna: Supposedly you need a supplement with 15% or greater of the extract to be valuable; 300mg per day. It also causes short-lived boosts, but comes with some nasty possible side effects. Benefits can last from 1-5 hours after taking. After 3 years, the body stops responding to it. Bad Side Effects.
Dosage: “Dosage for a pro-sexual effect is easier to determine for L-dopa and mucuna pruriens than for dopamine agonists. This is the case because a dosage that is too high will inevitably result in bad nausea. This nausea can be so bad that the last thing one fancies is sex.”
More: " Start with a dose of 250 mg of pure L-DOPA taken one time daily, with or without food. Work up to 750 mg to 1500 mg per day if necessary. Taking L-DOPA before sexual activity can increase libido and erectile quality."
Rhodiola is another of the Eastern Asian roots. My experience with “root herbs” hasn’t been good because there is no evidence to support that quality “roots” were used. From the internet: “Look for a rhodiola extract derived from Rhodiola rosea root and standardized to contain 3 percent total rosavins and a minimum 1 percent salidrosides.”
L-theanine is considered a “focus” and relaxation supplement; one study showed that it also increased serotonin in animals, which would defeat the purpose.
The main “natural” ways listed were:
- Eliminate Caffeine
- Decrease sugar intake as much as possible.
- Eat more bananas
and I’ll skip all the standard “eat better”, “get more exercise”, “sleep more”, blah-blah.
I don’t find anything about the “cumulative” effect of the supplements being important. Which means, I wonder if you could take it in cycles to prevent the body from getting used to it.
Updated 4/24/19:
M. pruriens significantly improved T, LH, dopamine, adrenaline, and noradrenaline levels and reduced levels of FSH and PRL in infertile men. It also significantly recovered sperm count and motility." (A Review on Plants Used for Improvement of Sexual Performance and Virility)
Dopamine – an orgasm ‘accelerator’
Abundant evidence points to dopamine as the key neurotransmitter involved in stimulating orgasm in humans. Thus, administration of the dopamine precursor L-dopa, dopaminergic agonists (e.g. apomorphine), dopamine releasers (e.g. amphetamine), or dopamine reuptake inhibitors (e.g. cocaine or bupropion) facilitate the expression of orgasm in men and women. I hear alot that we want to go natural. Some of these things can be worse then prescribed medication. Especially herbs.
For example
L arginine
- Some evidence suggests an increase in breast tumor growth after taking arginine supplements, but more studies are needed to confirm this.
- Long-term arginine supplementation in patients with peripheral artery disease may be harmful.
I use this site to research
Couple things, Theanine is the main mood enhancing drug in green tea, it is also the precursor to GABA. GABA can be supplemented directly. GABA is a amino acid like compound found in the body, it is what brings your body back to homeostasis after your adrenal glands release adrenal hormones. GABA will inhibit climax, (experience speaking). I take a small amount of GABA nightly, helps sleep and anxiety also promotes release of HGH. Tyrosine and taurine are the main components in energy drinks along with caffeine and B vitamins. Sorry to hear that about Arginine as I take 5-10 grams nightly along with Glycine and glutamine to help repair blood vessels, (quadruple bypass 11 yrs ago)…
What’s ironic is the high serotonin which makes you feel good should keep you from a climax. Evil irony
I have the opposite problem so I’m wondering whether I need to increase seratonin levels. I also think I have high levels of dopamine. Does anyone know if it’s possible to have high dopamine but low seratonin and what the characteristics of that would be?
You can supplement with 5 HTP to increase serotonin.
Interesting article on dopamine
Thanks I may trial a low dose, see if it has any effect.
I’ve always wondered why humans like music or get pleasure from beautiful scenery
Recently got a new van, Pacifica kid hauler. To my surprise it has a 500 watt Harmon karmen 22 speaker surround sound system and listening to Jethro Tull Locomotive breath at full seat shaking volume releases a lot of dopamine. Feel the pins and needles and tear up slightly, there’s something to that article
Google some old posts from Dr Marianco/Mariano he explains all this stuff.
Thanks @THORBAKER … I didn’t know that but I turn music on EVERY TIME I have sex … I wonder …
Well I didn’t know that song but it helped me ease into the zone doing HIIT this morning. Thanks.
