From the description of good squat form it is said that your knees shouldn’t go passed your toes. For some guys that I see obeying this rule, it seems that they put a lot more stress on their back for example:
It looks like squatting like this could possibly strain his lower back, but at the same time could strengthen it also.
But this next guy has his knees going pass his toes a little bit, yet look at the good it did for him.
For experienced squatters, which one has better form? I would think the guy in the second vid has better form despite the fact that he did ATG squats and the other guy didn’t.
I don’t believe in these hard fast rules. I can just tell when my form is safe and effective and don’t really care if my knees pass my toes or not. I do care that they stay in line with my feet just because it’s pretty apparent that bearing weight with your knees bowed in or out is a recipe for eventual injury.
