My gf got me a gift certificate to a masseuse for christmas and i want to use it. I can pick between Shiatsu, Deep Tissue, or Swedish and I really have no idea what the differences are (even after reading up a bit) and how they are going to feel. Any recommendations or preferences for those out there that get massages regularly.
A happy ending.
If you’ve got any past injuries or flexibility issues go the deep tissue or shiatsu.
I’ve been trained in Sweedish remedial massage and from what I’ve learned it’s not aggressive enough to do a lot for you unless you want to feel good, have something acute to treat or have multiple treatments.
When I get a massage I want to feel it. Last one I had was in Ireland last year, in Cork at a fine hotel. She was a lovely girl, I believe of Polish descent(surprise)…but her hands were weak and small. I like deep tissue.
Deep tissue is great. It may hurt a little and you will be sore the next day. But once you heal, you’ll feel great.
Don’t want to hijack, but has anyone tried a Migun massage bed?
Deep Tissue ROCKS.
And later on if u can find it Thai Yoga Massage is THE BEST!
Hot Rock is pretty cool too!
Does your GF have a sister???
Definitely go for the deep tissue one & relax as fully as you can whilst it is being done.
If the therapist is trained in several different modalities, you can just talk to them about what areas are feeling tight, sore, needing attention, etc and they should be able to customize the session for you.
Don’t be afraid to speak up during your session about anything you don’t like, ie. wanting deeper pressure or spending more time on an area.
As a licensed, certified massage therapist (on hiatus) who worked hard and maintained a professional practice, the happy ending jokes are really not funny.
