I was wondering if I eat a high fat meal about 1 to 1.5 hours before i take surge if it would slow down the fast protein and carbs in the surge?
Yep. Your digestive system can’t handle protein/fat that quickly, so it would still be “in the works” so to speak. Your system wouldn’t be able to “speed digest” the Surge quick enough to get the benefit. If you’re going to have the meal, I’d recommend a cheaper protein source post-workout
I normally like a protein/fat meal 2-3 hrs before lifting as this type meal gives me the most sustained energy level for WO and then like to carb up with surge after WO followed 1 hr later with protein/carb meal. By the time I drink my surge after the WO, its been at least 3.5-4 hrs since my protein/fat meal and this is what I consider the minimum time required to empty my stomach of the protein/fat meal so that the surge can be properly and rapidly absorbed. The WO does help speed along gastric enptying but it doesn’t sound like you are allowing enough time to digest the protein/fat meal. I’m sure some of it is still sitting in your gut.
I think Berardi says three hours before training.The size of the meal would make a difference too.
