Does anyone here have any diet-saving foods that they use to prevent them from cheating on a diet? Lets get a list going; Diet coke, light jell-o and pickles (1 large pickle = 10 cals) have become essential for me, especially when low-carbing.
Mustard (yes, eating it plain) and Crystal Light Tropical Punch
Vegetables - you can eat them until you’re full and still never really eat much more than 100 calories worth in one sitting.
stewart’s diet orange and cream soda. each bottle has about 3g of carb and 10 calories, and it tastes really good, and even a bit “creamy” if you use your imagination.
also, try making your own jello with plain gelatin and the best-quality diet rootbeer you can find (stewarts again for me). if allowed on your plan, throw on a teaspoon or two of heavy cream.
I’m really wierd and I also have a really strong sweet tooth. So, in the beginning of any cutting phase I make room for a 25-cent li’l box of Mike n Ikes or get like four of them 10-cent chocolates at the local mart.
I stopped drinking diet sodas way back in '96 and don't like the sugar-free stuff. So, my thinking was, if I don't eat it in my "regular" diet, why eat it during a cutting phase? So, once I'm done with the "candy sweets" - and trust me, I do get tired of them, I go for watermelon, mangoes, cabbage ( and I LOVE cabbage) and yes, sweet pickles. The sweet pickles don't last long, cuz by then, I'm ready to just buck up and do what I need to do. I'm "mentally tough". But, as said before, I'm wierd.
I have to agree with Jason on the vegetables. However, I could very easily eat a whole 5 lb bag of broccoli with no problem. Some other good things are salad greens, pickles, mustard (actually proven to increase the body’s metabolic rate for a short time), and whole sunflower seeds.
I don’t get traditional “junk food” cravings (red meat and beer don’t count, right?), but when I do get tired of tuna, cottage cheese, and protein powder I head to my local Mongolian grill. I can custom tailor the meal to whatever type of diet I’m on and the food is FANTASTIC. You have to love restaurants that have jars of peppers in oil on the tables, and that don’t mind when you use two or three of them. It isn’t really a cheat meal, but it has the same positive psychological effects without the negatives.
You shouldnt neglect finding your “Hunger triggers”. Usually I feel like I’m at the point of cheating when I’m bored or when I’m at a social dinner. So keep busy and when socially eating select the item on the menu that requires the most amount of time to eat (ex: big salad). If all else fails I drink a liter of water and go to bed
lol
mongolian grills are tight but i wonder if and how much sugars in the some of the sauces. sugar free Jello + whipped cream many many atimes.
When I’m cutting, I keep about a dozen hardboiled eggs in the fridge. Anytime I need an unplanned snack, I have one or two with a class of water. 16 cals, all protein. Hope this helps.
Diet Sprite with fresh lime juice squeezed in. The lime masks the gross aspartame flavor–sort of like a Sonic Limeade. Helps me with my keto dieting.
Even better than diet coke is Sobe diet peach tea. I have a nice hookup at Safeway so the cost isn’t too big an issue for me. Definitely better than Diet Coke…
Veggies and nuts. Pistashios are kinda sweet, so they help too. I can’t do the jello thing because of an asparatime allergy.
