Hi all, I’m newer here been hanging around for a bit but haven’t posted anything.
I would like get your opinion about my diet, I’m scared I’m not eating enough. I am losing weight so that’s a plus but I don’t want to lose muscle. I’m following a low carb high fat diet. Here is my intake average for 2 weeks. BTW I’m 6-2 280lbs 32yrs.
intake seems really low, especially at 280. I’m assuming you’re trying to drop some fat. I would say try to keep it around 2400 at least and try to be a bit more active if you’re worried about it.
But then again, if you’re getting results and able to make progress in the weight room, do what works.
LOL Okay, I know typically caloric needs will vary from person to person but are you guys crazy? 1650 cals at 6’2" 280 pds??? I know some people have slower metabolisms but unless this guy is someone we should be studying this is WAAAYYY too low. What’s going to happen is your going to slow down your metabolism and in order to continue losing weight your going to have to drop your cals lower or up your expenditure. Up the cals to at least 2400 and gauge how much weight your losing.

I didn’t realize I’d gotten so low on intake until today, figured it’d be low but not that low. So 2400 cals should be a good reference, I’ll find some more somewhere. Thank you all.

Your caloric intake does look a bit low, but no one can tell you whether you’re eating enough by just looking at that.
Are you maintaining or building your strength? If so, you’re most likely not losing muscle.
On the other hand, you might be losing muscle if your strength is consistently declining.
I couldn’t finish my chest workout this morning, which is why I started looking, this is probably the reason. I’ll figure this dieting thing out sooner or later. Thanks again.

Agreed. Your cal’s are waaaay low. I shoot for 2400cal/day on my off days and I’m 6’ 180lbs and it seems to be about right for my body/routine. Don’t make the same mistakes I did when I started. Eat more! trying to get the muscle back once it’s gone is much more of a pain than dieting correctly and keeping it around.
Ya, I’m 6’2" 190 8% bf and I eat about 2500 cal/day if I want to lose weight fast. I’m an endomorph and used to be a fatty in high school (220 pds, 0 muscle). I got down to 156 on a vlcd and really wish I would have known about this site; shit, I’d probably be 210 by now if I hadn’t wasted so much damn time dieting to concentration camp status. Trust me man, just follow the 7 habits and bust you ass on the weights and in 8 months to a year no one will recognize you. Good luck.

280 * 15 = 4200 cal a day to maintain size
4200 - 500 = 3700 cal a day to drop a bit of weight a week.
protein intake should be about 1.25*1.5g per pound of bodyweight.
I hate calculations like this. It implies that bodyweight x 15 is going to be maintenance calories for everyone.
Yea it didn’t work for me, I just gained weight and not good weight, trial and error I suppose.
I finally was able to increase my calories up to 2400 yesterday, it sucked! 2400 cals eating clean is pretty hard, I felt like I was eating all damn day.
You guys are great for helping me out, I still got a long way to go but with the help and support from this site I have no doubt I’ll make it this time.
