Diagnosed with Uncontrolled Type 2 Diabetes

My immune function is pretty strong and I never get sick, even with diabetes, so if anything my immune system very active. I do get an irritating sensation around the base of my neck when these symptoms are going on that almost turns into a cough. I don’t have any of the classic Graves symptoms of heat intolerance, excess sweating or puffy eyes.

I probably need to add more of this into my diet, I’m trying to stay away from supplementing with pills and just eating the right foods.

I highly recommend the book real meal revolutions.

If nothing else it is in part a great cook book for meals that will hav little or no impact on your blood sugar.

I had an older colleague who was hit by quite severe diabetes later in life and I bought him a copy. Lost of couple of stone over 2-3 months and nearly halved his 1ac without meds. His doctor wa sin disbelief that he’d lowered it that much with just diet changes.

That took about 4 months. Since A1c is an “average” measure of blood glucose over 3 months, you have give it at least that long to see that big of change in numbers. Packing on some good muscle during that period seemed to really help to. I can’t remember the source but I read in some science journal that more muscle mass lowers insulin resistance.

On a side note, one thing I have noticed with Victoza is that if I eat a carb-heavy meal (i.e. more carbs than I should eat) I get a bit nauseated. Kind of a bonus side effect that makes me not want to eat bad carbs.
Are you also on Metformin? That can cause some stomach issues for a couple of weeks until your body gets used to the drug.

I have and side effects were unbearable, imagine coughing every few seconds, sore throat and voices changes. These side effects would almost wear off at night time, then ramp up right after taking it in the morning. The glipizide crashed my potassium within 24 hours and no matter how much I supplemented (1800mg), potassium was still suppressed and it was a struggle to keep it in range.

I may be moving towards insulin therapy because the bloating is bad and the pain in intestines is getting out of hand. It’s sad to because Victoza is working very well. My endo said nothing is more effect than Victoza and it’s slightly more effective versus insulin in that it promotes weight loss.

My GI doctor did mention my digestive process is faster than normal, he did a series of MRI’s after eating an specially prepared egg sandwich. I can see why Victoza was chosen since it slows the digestive process down.

Just what I need because I want the food to taste good, but am wary of adding in the wrong ingredients. I’m hesitant going for any kind of sauces.

Dry rubs and olive oil will become your new best friends. Best way to add taste without adding carbs IMO.
When I have salad now, my go to dressing is red wine vinegar and extra virgin olive oil. Gives great flavor with minimal added carbs.

If you do get on insulin therapy be sure to get both a fast-acting and long term insulin to combat effectively.
Have you considered a CGM and insulin pump?

I’ll have to talk to my doctor about that, seems the optimal way to go.

I wanted to provide a little update and need some advice on a related topic regarding my diabetes, I’m on Lantus long acting insulin (24hrs) and also Humalog 3x daily rapid acting insulin. I’m on TRT now for about a week and am having some difficulty with how my body is regulating vitamin C.

If I start TRT on 7mg enanthate daily protocol and am on 45mg vitamin C, 4-5 days later gums are bleeding for hours after brushing teeth, teeth ache like my body is pulling stuff out of my teeth and it hurts, my hair is all fu**ed up and it’s as if someone put curlers in my hair (dry hair) and if I let it keep going the hair follicles in my legs (<25mg vita C) start bleeding underneath the skin.

Ok classic vitamin C deficiency, so I double up on my intake of vitamin C and all symptoms are gone relatively quickly, as within hours. By the next day teeth don’t hurt, gums do not bleed at all and hair is normal again, is hydrated and looks very healthy.

By night time, I’m mean every night, I start to feel incredibly fatigued and I notice my teeth start turning yellow and dull like something is being crammed into my teeth, it’s feels uncomfortable and is classic vitamin C overload, so I decrease my dosage a little (10-20mg) and by morning I am deficient and by night everything is fine.

It’s as if my body isn’t regulating vitamin C correctly and we can all agree it’s my diabetes is likely the cause, I can’t keep stopping TRT due to good vitamin C levels by day and overload by night or deficiency by day and normal levels by night.

My glucose is starting to get under control as I just started Humalog 3x daily rapid acting insulin two days ago.

How do I fix it in the short term or at least manage it to where I can stay on TRT?

Oh and by the way, enanthate is king and cypionate should be shelved if you are having problems with fluid retentions/water weight, it’s not even a little bit of a difference, it’s big!

No we can’t.

It’s not really easy to agree with any of these conclusions because vitamin C deficiency, except under some really unusual circumstances, had been solved for a couple of centuries.

So no.

If only there were professionals trained to manage people in poor health.

Given the severity of the symptoms you describe, I’m absolutely fucking astonished that you think a message board is the place to kick around possible pharmacological interventions based on speculated diagnoses made by random lay people.

Like…hey, @SkyzykS, you’re an iron worker, right? What do you think he should do? I mean, this sounds serious! Where do you think he should go with his various dosings?

Just wondering- are you still doing OJ shots?
For the ‘vitamin C deficiency’

Just a regular welder/fabricator, but In virtually all circumstance my default action is to hit it with a hammer.

Pancreas? Hammer.

Gunnel braces? Hammer.

Small sections perpendicular to the hypotenuse?

Yep. Hammer.

Almost missed this. I was looking for my hammer.

I bet the title of my log makes a lot more sense now, huh?

No daily OJ shots. The enanthate doesn’t drag vitamin C down as quickly as cypionate, the cypionate is like a sledgehammer on my vitamin C levels while the enanthate is gentler and gives me more time to act.

My first two shots were 20mg cypionate EOD and third shot was 60mg enanthate and even still nowhere close to the same effect on vitamin C. I also found the cypionate I need more diuretic and the enanthate I need a fraction of the diuretic on 3x higher doses.

The cypionate 2 days until I start having issues with vitamin C, 4-5 days using enanthate and it’s not nearly as severe. Back when my A1C was 6.6, these vitamin C problems were minor and easily correctable had I known about the impending vitamin C, iron, potassium and vitamin D deficiency.

Believe me I asked my endocrinologist, GP on what to do regarding my current dilemma and let’s just say my endocrinologist believes in 150mg every 2-3 weeks and has little experience. Also my endocrinologist prefers to keep all his patients <400 ng/dL.

So in other words I’m on my own as far as my current provider, my GP has a saying, "if I didn’t see it, it didn’t happen. In other words unless I end up in the ER on multiple occasions with vitamin C abnormally low, only then will they take action. I could do a consultant with Dr. Saya who is probably in a better position to offer something actionable.

So I’ll say it, since nothing on the interwebz can actually “go without saying” :

Are you eating enough foods with adequate vitamin C?

And what if he’s correct?

I have no way of knowing what those numbers mean, so of course grain of salt and all, but my strong impression is that neither do you. If you did, you would be in significantly less distress, I would imagine.

Am I the only one here who doesn’t believe a word this guy says?

I had some thoughts about this.

  1. Why can’t you let your system stabilize before monkeying around and throwing more drugs in to the mix?

  2. Revisit the mindset of cutting the shit, which worked for you a while back and got you heading in the right direction.

  3. You act like an addict. As soon as you’re only chin deep in shit instead of over your head, you start jabbing yourself with needles. Again.

You need to unfuck that shit and quit snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Is it really possible for a “Vitamin C deficiency” to come and go at the rate being stated here? I just can’t see how teeth can go soft and all these problems can manifest after what, hours, maybe days, of low vitamin C. Is that even possible?
