So I recently posted about my hormone levels being out of whack due to DHEA supplementation and took your guys’ advice to get more in depth testing done. A little background. I supplemented DHEA 25mg for about three months straight up until about a month and a half ago due to low energy and low libido. I am a 27 year old male. Fit lean and for the most part healthy. I just got my results back from the doctor and the results were:
Total Testosterone: 1292 ng/dl ref range 302-1096 ng/dl
Estradiol: 20.9 pg/ml
Estrone: 23.1 pg/ml
Estrogens total: 44 pg/ml
DHEA: 19.7 ng/dl ref range 1.33-7.78 ng/ml
So pretty much everything is either a little to high or double what it should be. Has anyone else ever had this same experience ans what did you/ your doctor do to treat it. Once the hormone levels got too high it killed my libido and I have had really bad agression and anxiety. Any advice would be nice. Im still watiting to hear from the doctor about what he wants to do but would like to hear from others as well. Anyone have experience with aromatase inhibitors? Curious as to what others think about them and if they helped them.
Just an FYI try to stick to one thread so others can read back on what has happened. new info doesn’t need a new thread.
Overall man what is your stress like. you say pretty healthy and fit but that actually doesn’t mean much especially when things don’t function well internally. I would assume that, based on the previous threads info and this one, you went through some type of chronic stress and your adrenals got taxed. Once that happened sex hormones down regulated, you experienced symptoms, you got scared, you threw in a supplement, the supplement helped (in a band-aide sort of way) then it over helped and now has caused a new problem.
Totally normal totally natural.
So yes, DHEA is high or higher than needed for this range and you will experience negative effects from it. Estrogen is high as well but that is a natural part of the process of the adrenals still being under a state of fatigue. Test is doing well but I also don’t know if any of that is aromatasizing. Obviously youre doing research cause you asked about inhibitors.
The real root of the problem is the adrenal fatigue/exhaustion. You need to fix that, everything should balance out.
So if you had low DHEA to begin with youre looking at causation factors such as autoimmune (doubtful), chronic stress (more than likely), Corticosertoid use, insulin issues. If cortisol goes out of order it will drag sex hormones down as well and you can bet there will be a down regulation of test and an increase in conversion of estrogen.
I have dealt with adrenal exhaustion for two years and only recently have I recovered from it. I do have type 1 diabetes but it is under excellent control. HbA1c was 5.7 when I tested last month. Yes the adrenal issued did down regulate my sex hormones and you are spot on when you say that I panicked and decided to throw in DHEA to bring that up. It did help for a few months until I over did it. But now I just want it to go back to normal.
My numbers actually went up from the last test I had done. So Im hoping it balances itself out soon. The main problem now is lack of libido and that sucks when youre in a relationship and that department used to be amazing and now is flat lined. Its just that the total estrogen seems a bit high to me.
Even the doctor said that its on the high end of normal. That could be normal for someone in their late 30s but I dont know about someone who is 27. Not sure still waiting to hear back from the doctors office. But in the mean time I am trying to not let my girlfriend suffer the effects of this.
Yes total testosterone is high but like I was telling hipsr4runnin my total estrogen seems a bit high and even the doctor noted on my labs that its on the high end of normal but I think thats a bit too high for someone who is 27 right. Plus the DHEA is waaay too high. I know thats definitely causing issues right now.
Yeah, then definitely let things regulate. It should come back to baseline. Try to cool everything really and relax.
you may be holding high estrogen in the blood because of bad gut health. I would just through in a low dose of CDG or DIM and a probiotic cycle, something good and strong for the gut tract, and you should clear that out of your system. A good fiber would help too. Your test should stay good, estrogen should be able to get pulled out.
AS far has high DHEA you would really have to let the adrenal glands chill out. If it continues to stay elevated you could be looking at adrenal tumors but Im assuming a lot of other things would have to go wrong first. Get your cortisol and adrenals in order bud.
Thanks for the advice. I had my FSH, LH, and prolactin tested as well and all were in normal range. I am afraid to throw anything else into my system because I react very strongly to everything. For example I have been eating lots of celery lately. Read it can increase testosterone but didnt think that much. My libido went through the roof for three days until today when I got terrible anxiety. Wow really… celery did that. So like I was saying if it can have an effect I will be the one to experience it. CDG might be a good route because its not an herb but I want to go in and see the endo before I do anything else.
I got here because I was experimenting with DHEA and self medicating in the first place. Energy is good just need to get the hormones balanced out now. Just need to get the DHEA and E1 down. Doc said that DHEA has a strong preference to estrogen but apparently in me its Testosterone. Im not sure exactly how high my E1 and total estrogen levels are compared to how they should be. Have noticed a few differences such as morning wood is back and other stuff but still low low libido compared to normal standards.
