Despade: Tales of a Lifetime Intermediate

Heck yea. Same for me as far as call volume. Fluctuates a ton. I’m stuck at the station for 24 hours at a time but we have a fairly nice gym and can workout at work(blessing) but somehow always seem to get a call in the midst of training (curse) lol.

Me. See, I’d have gone with 395

In all seriousness, I always go with the lowest weight I can.

W3D1 (keeping track so I know when to deload)

Squats
Warm Up weights
4 x 1 x 295
1 x 4 x 295
1 x 10 x 295

Squat (5 second pause on 1st rep, more like 3)
2 x 5 x 265

Seated Cable Row
3 x 15 x 150

Back Extension
1 x 25 x +25
1 x 25 x BW

Not awful, just weak at squatting, pretty frustrating. It’ll get better, or it’s supposed to, ha. Better at the cues this week, felt more solid, still plenty of room left to improve, obviously.

Weight is considerably better than I expected after a long weekend of eating and a night of boozing.

Sleep is awful, dealing with having a sinus infection and one of the girls is sick, so it’s just been a crap shoot around our house at night, ha. Whatever, excuses, excuses, excuses.

1 x 10 x 295, bit of a battle, ha, have been using ME work as an excuse to not do anything over like 3 reps, and I can feel every single one of those bastards.

Bench
5 x 5 x 185 (15 second breaks)

Floor Press
2 x 8 x 185

Push Ups
3 x 25, 18, 7

Inverted Row
3 x 5
1 x 16

Tricep Extension (ropes)
4 x 25 x 100, 100, 100/80, 80

Throat and sinuses feel like trash, but whatever, the work got done and it went really well, cues were much, much better. about 40 minutes for the full workout, manipulating those rest periods is crazy, I’ve always kept them pretty short, but man…it makes a difference!

Weight spiked a bit, not sure from what, maybe the 8 spoonfuls of peanut butter before bed last night…but then again, maybe not, guess we’ll never know

5 x 5 x 185 w/ 15 second(ish) breaks: This is the full video, feel free to skip it, it’s like 3:30 or so.

If only I was more machine and could produce a printout of exactly why I’m still a fat bastard.

Deadlift
Warm Up Shit
4 x 2 x 385
1 x 12 x 385 (straps/belt)

Stiff Leg Deadlift
2 x 8 x 305

Oly/High Bar Squat
2 x 12 x 185

DB Row
3 x 10 x 100

~45 minutes

This was taxing. Probably should’ve rested more between the 4 x 2 sets, whatever, wasn’t real happy with 12, I think I’ve hit 17 with that weight before, but logically I know the 4 x 2 took some out of me, ah well, such is life.

Weight is good, hovering right under 210, cool with that, I feel thick and solid, not big and fat, which is usually how I feel when I drift back up to 210, so that’s a plus.

Notes: High bar feels considerably better on my wrists, and sucks a fatty.

Edit: Calf. Game. Strong.

This is the 385 x 12, moved well.

Life Notes: Got an ‘unofficial’ job offer last night, it is unofficial, because the site supervisor wants me to tour the place since I have no experience, they are trying to avoid me getting out there and going, “Oh shit, what the hell did I get myself into? I’m out!” Which won’t happen, I’ve worked some shit gigs before, for a hell of a lot less money, and I’ll be working with good folks out there, ha. Got the tour this afternoon, so if all goes well and I don’t act like a dickwad, I will probably be offered the job officially this afternoon, accept, and then have to go about telling my current workplace about it (not looking forward to that, I am intensely loyal to folks that treat me well), but it is simply too good of an opportunity to pass up. Pretty excited about all of it, and I get to be outside again, which is great, I missed sunrises, ha. It was pretty cool, because I was the for sure number 2 on the list (due to experience) but I think the guy that called me and offered was pulling for me, he liked my interview immensely, along with my resume, so he was almost apologetic, “Well, we offered it to another guy, because he has 7 years experience doing this exact job, but he turned it down, so if you’re still interested…?” And I completely get it, I have zero of that work experience, I knew I had a shot, but all other things equal, experience trumps inexperience, every time, so I wasn’t upset at all, (“Oh my god, I was the second choice? How dare you!”), but he was pretty adamant that he was pulling for me, anyway, which is great, because he’ll be my direct supervisor.

Anyone else ever feel like shit just…works out, for them? I 100% feel that way, I mean…shit literally just falls into my lap and I can pick and choose, it blows me away, and I don’t consider myself a ‘lucky’ person. Edit: Although I consider myself a very thankful and grateful person.

Congrats man. What’s the job?

I have always found if I work hard with integrity, honesty and loyalty, that opportunities always present themselves. What some people call luck, I just call having the foresight and courage to create or take an opportunity then one presents itself.

Good luck and well done.

It’s out in the oil fields, no roughnecking (I ain’t about that life anymore :joy:) I’ll be a lease operator, general maintenance, upkeep, and in charge of the production of about 80 oil derricks/electric wells in a mid sized field about 30 minutes from where I live. Got the official offer last night, “Well since you have no experience in this I can only offer you (surprisingly large $ amount here), so if we can agree on that, then we can get moving forward.” I damn near choked :joy: (I didn’t put the dollar amount simply because it seems…douchey) but it is substantial and it is great for this area, for sure.

I can totally relate to this… It seems like if you put in the hard work, have a positive mind and are a great coworker, then everything is possible, not luck man.

Anyways huge congratulations D.

Thanks all! Yeah, I’m pretty stoked AND it is only mildly physical, my (new) boss goes, “Yeah, not a lot of heavy lifting, the hardest work you’ll do physically is getting in and out of your truck 80 times a day to check everything, so keep your workout regimen, or you’ll get fat…just look at us.” :joy: So another positive to this job is that it will still facilitate growth in the gym, which is hugely important to me. It is literally just win, after win, after win (outside of basically having to learn a foreign language, of course haha)

Decent day, sleep has been absolutely wrecked, but whatever, work is still getting done. 295 is heavy, why is it so heavy, this is stupid :joy:

Weight is still good, full weekend of recovery and eating, feel decent, just tired as shit, which means I probably have a little bloat, it is what it is.

What is 295 as a % for you ??

~72.5%

Meaning I should’ve gotten more :joy:

Looked like they moved ok to me. 10 reps at 72% would start to feel heavy for me too. Especially the last rep. Lol

Congrats on the new job!
