Derek Jeter Sucks!

I never found him that attractive; not my style. Now Aaron Rowand on the other hand…I would do unspeakable things to him.

Please speak of them.

I don’t think so. The last time i saw him running the bases, which was during the WS, he looked like he was still moving very well. I’m doubtful about the read off the bat. The scouting report on Jeter has been he doesn’t take a very efficient route to get to where the ball is going. Other Major league Shortstops make plays Jeter doesn’t make.

I agree Jeter retires as a Yankee and I think he will stay at SS as long as he possibly can. I don’t think he wants to risk Alex moving over to his spot.
I don’t watch much AL baseball and rarely catch a Yanks game so I can only go off of what I have heard and am certainly not arguing your point.

It was my impression that Jeter was good a positioning himself based on pitcher/hitter match-up (which looking at it now is significantly different than reading the ball off the bat. my bad). I suppose that was more the point I was trying to make; he has the baseball IQ to continue at short but is getting to the point where that is no longer enough. (this is why talking sports at a bar is much easier. There is a lot more leeway when you fuck up!!)

I will say that there is a difference between speed on the base path and quickness on defense. Being a Phillies fan, I watched a lot of the stuff that Pedro Feliz pulled off at 3rd last year and while he was not lighting up the base path, he had great quickness to the ball.

So do you think he just retires when he can no longer play short then?
I agree he is a very smart baseball player. It would surprise me if he was not a student of the Cal Ripken art of positioning himself based on each next pitch as well as the pitcher hitter matchup.

Im confused. Why are people assuming he’s getting worse defensively? Hes never had great range to his left, fine. Is anyone noticing a delcine in defensive skills in the past few years? I haven’t. He hit an inside the park homer 2 weeks ago, moving just fine. He’s never had a serious injury in his career beside when that dumbass catcher fell on him. Theres a 0% chance he moves to the OF.

Teixeira is saving him a bunch of throwing errors (and arod and cano too). Jeter isnt just going to get awful out of nowhere. Some guys dont age normally.

lol @ SS being a rugged position.

How do you figure SS not being a rugged position? They’re routinely diving for ground balls, and being slide tackled at during Double plays. Aside from catching, 2nd and SS are the most physically demanding fielding positions.

EDIT: How many quality starting shortstops are there in the league that are in the mid-30’s? The only other one I can think of is Alex Gonzalez.

Oooh way to ruin an otherwise decent post.
