Derailed - Setting a New Course!

sounds like a lovely evening

and pics of kite stunt in action?

Cal - My elbow is doing much better. It took a good three months to clear up. It could have been shorter if I rested a bit more. I still have to watch it though. Some movements are still not good yet.

Alexus - Acronyms are a funny thing. To me DB=dumbbell or dodgeball.

Nikki - Thanks! I tried my weighted vest out yesterday and it kicked my ass.

N - I’m pretty sure I have some pictures floating around. I’ll dig one up.

Friday training

I was so unfocused on Friday. I went down to the basement frustrated hoping to clear my head, but just ended up having an off workout.

Hanging leg raise (half-way up)

Saturday - landscaping!

We built a retaining wall for my new garden and filled it up with garden soil. Hauling dirt and bricks around is good GPP!

My form was feeling off and it was sunny and nice out, so I grabbed my kettlebell and my weighted vest and went outside to play.

I did:
Walking lunges
Push-ups off my deck
Waiter walks
Steps-ups

In no particular order - just kept moving for about 20 min.
I was a sweaty mess after. Good stuff!

Great DL PR.
All that playing for 20 minutes? Wicked stuff

I want pics of this finished garden please =)

I love ‘cardio,’ like that… what weight does your vest go up to?

Happy belated Birthday!!

Nikki - yup for a whole 20 min. I might have to do some more tonight. I’ll take a pic of the garden too, but there aren’t any plants in it yet, so it is a little boring. It will be filled with veggies come summer.

MiM - I have enough weights to get it up to 50lbs, but there are a few more pouches. It probably can go to 60lbs. I had it around 20lbs the other day.

Vancouver Island - first time I flew this kite. I’ve been hooked ever since.

awesome pic
and great PR’s!

Nice pic! And your bench numbers continue to astound me. I want a weighted vest, too. I’ve thought about loading up a backpack but I think it has the potential for inducing pain in my shoulders and traps. Hooray for kites! Very fun!

N- Thanks!

Powerpuff - You’re right on that one. When I was rucking with a loaded pack, I did fatigue in my traps and shoulders first. The weighted vest certainly balances out the weight much better than a backpack.

Last night was the first night I have actually trained karate since January and it felt damn good! Of course I had to work around my knee, but all in all it was pretty awesome. My elbow held up just fine too and I was throwing some hard punches.

It was a pretty exciting class because we had three new black belts who just came back from their grading on the weekend.

I had another one of the other instructors tell me that he was glad to see me out on the floor again because he pushes harder when I’m around. I love that atmosphere - we all push each other to get better.

I’m looking forward to sweating buckets at karate tonight.

Wow, I just got caught up and this log is full of awesome!

Hitting all of these PRs while waiting for knee surgery is really inspiring.

Love the stunt kite. They are so much fun.

Sorry that I missed your birthday and that you still don’t have a surgery date. Glad to hear that your birthday was fun and you got that cool weighted vest. I’m liking the KB/weighted vest combo. Must be great conditioning and will help you go into surgery strong so that you can come back and kick some ass.

Have fun at karate!

Veggie - I’m very grateful that I can still push and challenge myself right now. It keeps things interesting when I can’t compete in my other sports.

It was an odd, busy weekend and I only managed to get a short bench/upper body workout it.

Friday and Saturday I had a couple of random vertigo episodes. Never had them before, but my mom and grandpa have them occasionally. The doctor said it was benign vertigo. They don’t really understand what triggers it. As far as vertigo goes, they were pretty mild, but still a little disconcerting. So far I haven’t had anymore episodes, so I’ll have to see what happens.

Saturday - Bench press

Shoulder prehab circuit #1 x 3

Bench press
5@45
5@60

Working

Chin-ups
2 x 3

Here’s my garden all ready for seeds. I was going to do some gardening on the weekend but it was too damned windy. Even too windy for my kite.

I visited some friends on Saturday who had a belated birthday present for me.

No - not that fanny.

We got a good laugh out of it anyway. Bye-bye BB glute bridges, hello Fanny Firmer.
