Already have it.
Hmmmmmmm. Not really into it yet. Thus far I must say I kind of preferred Demigod and Apostasy over Evangelion.
Production changed a little again, is it just me, or are the drums (mostly cymbals and hi-hat) a lot louder now? Like, too loud compared to the guitars?
Anyway, no song that really did it for me during the first 2 spins.
Yeah, the drums are definitely louder. Not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing though. I need to listen to the album more before I can say anything conclusive, but so far it sounds OK. Nothing revolutionary but not bad either.
Yeah, just more of the same, sort of. Sounds a bit like some band tried to imitate behemoth but didn’t really get it right ![]()
I didn’t think it sounded too bad. Not necessarily a big leap forward in metal, but I don’t think they lost any ground.
Oh wells.
Well, it just doesn’t really measure up to their previous 2 albums, song by song.
That being said, I finally got into a few of the songs. And yeah, it’s not so much that the drums are too loud, but the guitars and bass guitar don’t get through well enough/powerfully enough.
I think it’s a little like Amon Amarth’s “Fate Of Norns”, which came out after “Versus The World”.
The latter pretty much put them on the map after all their badly-produced previous stuff and also was imo somewhat different in style. The newer albums haven’t managed to capture the same atmosphere, but went a little in a different direction.
Fate Of Norns had no chance of topping VTW, but everyone had high expectations… And they went with a different (not so great…) production and totally different atmoshpere and all that and it probably ended up being Amon Amarth’s weakest album (though with a nice concept behind it) out of all their newer stuff.
That’s kind of similar to what I think about Evangelion vs. Demigod (hell yeah) and Apostasy (great, too).
Demigod was the first well-produced (well, sort of) album Behemoth made, and it was pretty aggressive overall. Apostasy took a a little longer to get into, perhaps the song-structures were a bit on the obvious side and all that, also somewhat different production… But I liked it, too. (still, Demigod lands in my cd player more often than Apostasy).
Now the new thing seems like it was just an effort at making more money or something. Even though it came out after the other 2 mentioned albums, it’s kind of… Obsolete? Has nothing really going for it compared to the previous 2 albums, even though it’s basically not bad or anything.

i watched their “making of” videos on youtube (BEHEMOTH - Episode III - Guitar & Bass Tracking 2009 e.v. (OFFICIAL BEHIND THE SCENES) - YouTube). one quote stood out: “i loved the fact that they were very anal about the details. they wouldn’t let a single fuckup end up on tape.”
i dunno man, sometimes the little inconsistencies make the music sound more natural.
my favorite behemoth album is still satanica… i love the sound of that one.
