Death Metal

Sinister’s logo is cool. This badass t-shirt is on my wishlist.

Okay… I, er, accidentally found a torrent file that was the entire discography (including EPs) from Incantation. I accidentally downloaded it. I accidentally have been listening to it constantly because everything they’ve ever done owns so effing hard.

EDIT:: I always thought Belphegor and Impaled had awesome logos, too!

That Sinister shirt is the shit…

I love any, all metal, genres of this type.

This topic has spanned much time and many pages, but I sincerely hope that SOMEONE has mentioned Bloodbath. By far my favorite death metal band. Vocalist is Mikael from Opeth, and they’re just fucking intense. Check out the song “Treasonous” if you want to be put the mood to slaughter and maim.

Bloodbath have been mentioned numerous times already, but that doesn’t mean you can’t bring them up again.

Yeah the vocalist is SICK with his, my favorite song by them is ‘Behest of Their Death’, I love that riff that starts at the chorus or whatever.

Bloodbath is sick. All I’ve heard by them is The Fathomless Mastery. I love the odd-tempo breakdown in “Ieosus”, sounds like something from Nothing era Meshuggah.

Sorry if they’ve been mentioned before but anyone listen to Origin? Brutal, chaotic tech/death/grind. Maybe I’m crazy but some of that shit is kinda catchy. Amazing artwork too

Where?? Need links or something.

In your opinions, what death metal bands out there are like Bloodbath? Like with deep, vicious vocals, and the same brutality in the music? I’ve been having trouble finding the kind of death metal that I’m interested in lately, which Bloodbath fits perfectly. In fact they’re probably the epitome of my current interests in music. I’ve slightly moved away from the complete and unaimed chaos that is music like Deicide, Emperor, Belphegor, Mayhem, etc. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the complete brutality that is that style of death metal and black metal (hell, all of those are pretty much classics by now), but it isn’t my favorite at the moment.

Huh? Belphegor and such have super-simple song-structures and riffs…
Mayhem and Emperor are not death metal at all
Deicide had one so-so album and a lot of crap it seems… Ok, maybe 2 so-so albums… Legion and stench of redemption I think…

You want relatively simple 4/4 death like bloodbath, well… A lot of the old stuff like obituary is sort of like that, but I’m no specialist when it comes to that particular “strain” of dm.

Not really the same, but you may want to try At The Gates - Slaughter Of The Soul for one…
Maybe also older Darkane albums (Rusted Angel, though that has a bit more complex stuff on it as well… First two songs suck, the rest is pretty nice overall… If you get into it), Insanity…

Maybe even old Death albums before they went over to the more technical and progressive side (or partially created it)… Leprosy for example.

Some stuff from Entombed as well… Morningstar maybe, though it’s somewhat more thrash than death.

Lots of standard modern thrash and even some metalcore bands and older, non-progressive death metal bands may fit the bill as well.

Anyway, I’m sure some of the younger guys are more up to date when it comes to that particular kind of dm.

What, didn’t they just release “the fathomless mastery” ? They’ve made a new one already, or is this some sort of joke?

I mostly listened to it on your average cd player with crappy headphones, and it sounded great… Very odd guitar sound, but dense and sort of charringly brutal. Made me think of rusted surgeon’s tools or something, for some reason.
That album really put them on the map, too.
Their demo/shorter length cd “breeding death” was so-so, not bad either.
“Nightmares made flesh”… Now, they got the hypocrisy-guy for that one instead of the Opeth dude. Had some good stuff on it, too, but way less intense imo.

Hmmm. I’m not much of an Origin fan, to be honest.
I thought some tracks off Antithesis were ok, the opener and wrath of vishnu and such, but kind of crappy production and longstreth sure can get annoying and isn’t exactly the most innovative guy either… Hardly any interesting patterns.

Haven’t heard much from the older albums, only a bit from staring from the abyss or whatever it was called.

Everyone on the derek roddy forum seemed to have a hard-on for these guys (guess it’s because longstreth posts there lol), and I didn’t know them yet… So I first downloaded the sample from starting from the abyss… Thought “what, that’s it? That’s Origin? Huh?”, got myself antithesis… And yeah.

Not quite my thing… But definitely full of potential… Unfortunately, like cannibal corpse, they often seem to have more interesting song-titles than music. Or at least I expected something completely different from a song called “algorhythm”.

Anyway… Still listening to some of their songs fairly often… Mostly the opener from Antithesis and wrath of vishnu…
But particularly on that last one, they could have really stepped it up a notch with the tech…

Mikael Akerfeldt or whatever his name was (from Opeth) is the vocalist… His “growls” really sound a lot better on the bloodbath material than on his Opeth stuff.
Imo he sounded the most intense on Resurrection Through Carnage though.

Haha this is actually amazing. I wasn’t following this thread at all… because I don’t know much DM. I ussually listen to stuff you guys might call crap. Lamb of God, Scar Symmetry, Devildriver… However I’ve been really into Bloodbath lately and I was going to ask if there’s any similar bands. Apparently someone covered that yesterday.

At the Gates is sick as well.

it’s more doom metal, but ahab has deep vocals and a really heavy sound. but more plodding. well it’s doom, so there you go. that’s not really helpful at all is it? lol

torture killer maybe? i don’t think chris barnes is on the same plane as the opeth guy. i like most things off of swarm, and some off of sewers.

I know those two aren’t death metal. I made sure to include “black metal” into that sentence to avoid looking dumb lol.

And At the Gates is pretty good… I’m not a huge fan of all Gothenburg DM, but they’re pretty badass.

To the person who mentioned Torture Killer- I don’t have any of their music, and the link you posted was pretty cool. I’ll make sure to get some of their songs.

“Dead Congregation’s Graves of the Archangels. Old school-sounding death metal but with a modern twist; frequently evokes Incantation and Immolation. Badass stuff, probably the best release of 2008.”
