Jealous, I am.
And you should wear speedos instead of mesh shorts. ![]()

Are you guys aware that Suffocation is releasing a new album in July?
Holy dog shit… That song slays babies and rapes nuns! I WANT![/quote]
New album huh? Cool, I thought their self-titled was better than most of their previous ones overall… Let’s see how they develop (more polyrhythms please ! lol).
Hey guys I need some metal music to train. I really know nothing about metal,
the stuff that I like that comes the closer to metal is Deep Purple, mahavishnu orchestra and some Krautrock.
What should I start with? (mind that I only want this music to train).
I downloaded (yes illegally) some Manowar but I dont like them.

do you want more polyrythm? I’ll show you something that has some (it’s not metal)
What do you think about this

Sorry dude, but if Deep Purple is metal, you may want to check a different thread. Not trying to be a dick, but honestly now.

Awesome! Sounds more like Effigy of the Forgotten. Granted, I haven’t heard their self-titled, but this song is pretty good. Could use a bit more speed, though. ![]()

…and to think that this made the new page, branching away from my impeccable recommendations (if you will.)

I’m waiting to talk about it when it comes out, I’ll hold my opinions on it since I have low expectations for it.

Does not compute.
I adore Mahavishnu Orchestra, but Death Metal?
Uhhhh…Atheist?

I think you honestly need to stop Powerlifting and listening to “Death Metal” and work on that “haircut” of yours.
Shit, I’d be embrassessed if I put myself as my avatar and look like that.
Disarmonia Mundi
Somebody posted this band a while back and I kind of like them. They remind me a LOT of In Flames (not just their song mindtricks lol)…really close with a lot of songs actually lol anyways I have a few songs I have liked from them.
also as a bump to get this thread back on page 1 lol
Celestial Furnace
Mind Tricks
Process of Annihilation
Colors of a New Era
quicksand symmetry
Miseration
Thrones
Chain Work Soul
*anybody have a good playlist from them they’d care to share…like 2-3 songs that are known to be ‘their best’
Scar Symmetry
The path of least resistance
Morphogenesis
Mind Machine

Low expectations? How come?
I mean, it’s not like suffocation are some sort of uber-band or anything… But they’re imo quite solid (or at least some of their stuff is… Got a lot of bland shit as well and their drummer is just plain overrated by the drum mags… Not that he’s bad, but hmm. ). As I said… I liked most from their self-titled and a bunch of their older stuff…

I’ve got quite a few zappa albums lying around somewhere (and several of his drummers ended up in metal later on lol… Or at least one did).
No sound on my web-pc though, so don’t bother posting vids/streaming audio.

Metal is a bit of a journey, just like training. You’ll likely have to start with something newbie-friendly and progress from there…
If prog is your thing, try some entry level progmetal ala dream theater (older albums + train of thought… I just got the newest and it’s, well, better than octavarium, but still kind of weak?) and such…
Now, for training… Duh. The technical and prog stuff isn’t that great for training imo. I just end up concentrating on the music then ![]()
Some groovy but basic death metal like bloodbath and basic thrash like slayer (duh) should work… Dunno man, whatever gets you into an aggressive mood. Or some “here come the vikings, yeah, swords and shields!”-stuff like amon amarth ![]()
Metal is such a huge collection of sub-genres… You’re bound to find something you like eventually.
I know you will all kill me for suggesting this…
but…
if you are a noob to metal and want to break yourself in try some of the ‘metalcore’ bands…as much as any ‘metal’ guy hates most of them there are some good bands out there that are great for training.
Killswitch Engage, All That Remains both worked for me at one point for training.
Hatebreed, Five Finger Death Punch, are two bands that ALWAYS get me in a lifting/fighting mood.
C_C hit the nail on the head with metal being a journey…I’m now really into stuff that I originally disliked.
Its funny like that. lol

They always play those bands at my gym when all the powerlifters/strongmen train together, they are good bands for noobs to get into, and I might even suggest The Red Chord as well, since they write musically well written music.

The self-title was such a dissappointed for me, I really think they are capable of doing another opus like Pierced From Within, so I’m holding out for that to happen.
