Death Metal

What do you guys think about the Florida Death Metal Scene? Most of those bands sound pretty similar imo.

I dig Merciful Faith, (kind of a Priest feel).

A real quick look at my collection:

Bathory, Behemoth, Bolt Thrower, Celtic Frost, Children of Bodom, Coroner, Destruction, Emperor, Kreator, ect.

Florida Death Metal = the tits
I mean Morbid Angel and Death came from that scene, how wouldn’t that be awesome?

That’s funny, Entombed is considered (and rightfully so) one of the greatest Swedish Death Metal acts ever.

Sorry. From the context of the sentence I realize it looked like I was saying they were thrash, which they’re obviously not. What I was trying to say is that they are one of (if not THE) greatest death bands of all time.

Strapping Young Lad is a guilty pleasure. They have some of the most accessible sound (semi-grind, really) out there and a really good introduction to new listeners, imo.
It’s alright, you like Entombed, you’re cool.

Strapping Young Lad-Love? - YouTube - Devin is a bit out there, but any band with Gene Hoglan in it is alright with me…I guess.

Oops. I deleted my question.
I didn’t want to fuck up the death scene with the bands I was mentioning. Sorry, continue on guys.

Wait, I did appreciate King Diamond.

SLAAAAAAAAYER!!!
Not really Death Metal, but hey, can’t go wrong with Slayer.

I’m enjoying Weedeater and Bongzilla at the moment. Acid Bath, Black Sabbath, Mastodon, and Slayer come to mind as quality metal.

I don’t know if anyone counts what Rob Zombie does as “Metal” but I like it and I don’t care what you say.

More into Grindcore, ‘Godflesh’ particularly.

Most others of the genre are really cheesy.

oh! oh! I love Godflesh, Streetcleaner \m/
‘Like Rats’ and ‘Spite’ are faves of mine…

I also like almost the entirety of their last real album ‘Hymns’. ‘Voidhead’ particularly.

Is there anything else out there like Godflesh? I know Neurosis is sorta close.

It’s cool, but I do think it’s

Vai - Steve Vai - "For The Love Of God" - YouTube

then

Tony - - YouTube

and sorry to say, but last is

Satch - - YouTube

in my opinion, and AIC’s Dirt album is pretty cool for a rock album.

So you like the Stoner metal stuff?

I can see that.

Yeah thanks, Dirt was pretty fucking badass. Loved his morbid lyrics and vicious voice throughout that motherfucker.

They seemed to soften up after that, I hate it when bands do that.

Hey D,
What do you think of King Diamond?

I like them, but I don’t think anything isn’t as influential than Street Cleaner and Slavestate. The other albums are really good, but those 2 albums are a new level imo.

I will say that my favorite track from Hymms is - YouTube

What are people’s thoughts on Slam Death?

Love it?

Hate it?

Does it bring the slam?

There would only be 3 people posting a black metal thread.

And I am going to bust your balls on Darkest Hour.
Yeah yeah, so sue me, I like some Metalcore.

I bet more than 3 of us would respond to it. It’s keeping the Slipknot/Korn/3 Doors Down/Drowning Pool retards out of there that’s going to be the biggest challenge.

I’ll go start it.

I just can’t consider anything ‘death metal’ that has singing through any more than 4% of the song, emu-chord progression, or 80’s style bullshit riffage (a la King Diamond, sorry…)

Real death metal? As it’s been said, bands like: Behemoth, Cryptopsy, Suffocation, Decapitated, Cannibal Corpse, Cattle Decapitation (vegan pussies…) the Aborted, all that good stuff.

Slayer is a ‘classic’ metal band, much like Metallica and Megadeth. If anyone ever tries to pass any of these bands as death metal, though, they ought to be slain.

I hope that doesn’t mean you think King Diamond sucks…I’d cry if you did.

Slayer is thrash, but they did help influence Death Metal.

I’ll live you with this Suffocation - Bind Torture Kill - YouTube

I may be wrong but did anyone mention Opeth?

They just put a new album out, has anyone heard it yet?

Black Dahlia Murder, August Burns Red, and Between the Buried and Me are a few favorites of mine.

I saw Children of Bodom, Mastodon and Unearth live and they were all amazing.

- YouTube Blast Beats with clean vocals = WIN

Watershed is very good, much better than Ghost Reveries.

I’ll only accept your BDM and Children of Bodom, the rest must be banned. Sorry man.

I’m more of a thrash guy myself, however I love death metal too, particularilly melodic death metal.
