Death Metal v2

Wow, I’ve missed some stuff.

That new Jungle Rot sounds fucking great, I really like it.

New Exhumed - nice. I’ve never been their biggest fan but those drums just sold me.

Origin? Wow, what happened? They sound like Brain Drill. except not very good. I definitely have only heard the one song posted so far, though. If I’m going to listen to that I’m going to go with the up-and coming Rings of Saturn…

And yeah, no one’s fabricating the total shit-storm that is the new Morbid Angel album. I’m almost inclined to say that it’s even worse than Cryptopsy’s latest effort. Just… bad.

Devolved has a new album coming out pretty soon, cool.

And some other random shit:

Wow, I’m pretty impressed with that Nader Sadek stuff, and I usually hate everything that’s new, haha! Good to hear Steve Tucker hasn’t let his talents go to waste. Also surprised to hear Flo contributing his skills to something that isn’t total crap.

Hah, I had no idea these guys were still around. I thought they broke up like 10 years ago. That track sounded like a massive Meshuggah rip-off (not good from my view, though I never was much of a Devolved fan).

Lol! I definitely agree, they’ve always been pretty hit-or-miss for me. Since they’re on Unique Leader and I’m a total whore for them, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. Definitely Youtub’ing the album before investing significant capital or time into it, though, haha.

Happy International Day of SLAYER

How to Celebrate

Listen to Slayer at full blast in your car.
Listen to Slayer at full blast in your home.
Listen to Slayer at full blast at your place of employment.
Listen to Slayer at full blast in any public place you prefer.

DO NOT use headphones! The objective of this day is for everyone within earshot to understand that it is the National Day of Slayer. National holidays in America aren’t just about celebrating; they’re about forcing it upon non-participants.
Taking that participation to a problematic level

Stage a "Slay-out." Don't go to work. Listen to Slayer.
Have a huge block party that clogs up a street in your neighborhood. Blast Slayer albums all evening. Get police cruisers and helicopters on the scene. Finish with a full-scale riot.
Spray paint Slayer logos on churches, synagogues, or cemeteries.
Play Slayer covers with your own band (since 99% of your riffs are stolen from Slayer anyway).
Kill the neighbor's dog and blame it on Slayer.

in other news, I cannot get enough of viking/folk-type metal. Anyone hear of Finsterforst?

Try Equilibrium and Trollfest. Kinda the same thing.

And for some really seriously good viking/folk Amon Amarth, Bathory and Primordial!
More black than Death, but its the best god damn metal i have heard in years. Great lyrics, great vocals, great songwriting

This song gives me chills. Having a deep hatred for the state church of Norway, and its history, this song just hits me hard.

I’m a big fan of Amon Amarth and Equilibrium. And of course on the Bathory. I’ll have to check out Trollfest and Primordial. thanks!

edit: my genetics teacher used to teach in a Bathory shirt. twas awesome.

and Blut Im Auge… great song. I used to play that song specifically for my all-out set of Kroc Rows.

Primordial is unbelievable. The vocals on some of their older stuff (Gathering Wilderness) sounds like Quorthon, which is good. One Rode to Asa Bay is definitely on my list of all-time favorite songs.

listening to The Gathering Wilderness right now. First time. Excited. Nothing like metal + Amazon shopping.

Just got some Psycroptic from my one mate last night… daaaaamn its awesome!

New Origin is a mixed bag.

Anyone liked Immortal’s Son’s of Northern Darkness and then ended up strangely disappointed when All Shall Fall came out, even though the Ingredients are basically the same?
That’s sort of how I feel about the new Origin so far.

The production has indeed changed some, more low end in it, a bit more punch… And in some cases the double bass actually sounds like it should (in one instance or so. When nothing else can be heard… Well, ok, in more than one instance. How much punch they have tends to vary from song to song)…
But it’s also a bit of a throwback to pre-Antithesis days.

There is no really memorable/“melodic” song on it ala Finite, Antithesis, Aftermath, Vishnu… It’s more like the Echoes of Decimation album in terms of songwriting I’d say?

A lot of semi-technical chugga-chugga (and the blast beats and drums in general still don’t sound very good for the most part) with a few sweeps here and there.

Some interesting stuff but it doesn’t really get me headbanging or playing air-drums/guitar or anything…

Bass guitar sounds like shit, as usual. Shame.

Vocals suck from what I can remember from my first half-dozen playthroughs. Not like Origin ever had good vocals, but Antithesis at least had some good parts (some of wrath of vishnu etc).

Oh well, others will love it, and maybe it’ll grow on me…

I was hoping for either Antithesis part 2 (with less filler) or an upgrade from Antithesis. Got neither.

Edit: I should add that the drumming is more varied this time, less blasting, a little more creative here and there…
And “Saliga” kind of stands out to me so far.

Wolfchant is fucking awesome.

Another song from the new Nathrakh album

Drug-Fucking Abomination

o god yes

New EP from Fleshgod apocalypse is kicking my ass. had it on repeat for my shoulder/back training today.

Yeah, they keep getting better and better.

Will not post without a contribution;

NOT DM, but going to see these guys soon: EVERYONE in this thread should like these guys:

And this one is very much, in fact, death metal:

Vader and Gorgoroth team up for a huge european tour. hope make it all the way up here!

Haven’t really kept up with Vader in recent years… I mostly liked Litany and Revelations… Everything past that seemed to get progressively more quantized in the sound department and less and less ferocious and interesting. Doc may not have been the most creative or even technical drummer, but his blast beats on rev. and lit. sounded awesome and somewhat different… Too bad he died.

It’s not like they were ever particularly original or varied, but I dunno. The their mid-career albums just seemed pretty cool to me compared to the other stuff.

Origin update: After listening to the new album a few hundred times now it’s grown on me, but I’m still not super-happy about them more or less ditching the “melodic” aspects/the apreggio- and sweeping madness that made a few of the Antithesis songs so memorable.
It feels like they cut out the one thing that made me like antithesis much more than previous Origin albums despite it’s horrible drum sound and lack of variation in the drumming (yeah he does a lot of intricate stuff while blasting, esp. on the snare, but it’s still just blasting 90% of the time and the sound is horrible on the drums and bass).

It seems overall far less ferocious/aggressive and more moody/dark. Or at least those are the parts that seem the most memorable to me. I end up listening to Saliga and Conceiving Death the most, but they both have quite a few sections that I just don’t care for as well.

So still a mixed bag to me. Come to think of it, Antithesis was also mostly 3-4 great songs plus filler, but I still listen to it more often.

I hope they end up re-recording The Aftermath, Wrath Of Vishnu, Finite and Antithesis with the current or better production and more varied drumming (plus maybe a better bass sound?).
That’d make my day. I don’t think I’d ever listen to anything else again while training.

On another note… The new morbid angel still has not grown on me at all. 1-2 ok-ish songs (if you listen to them by themselves), though they don’t really get me head banging… And the rest is just so pedestrian and embarassingly badly done. Oh well.

New Black Dahlia Murder (ritual) has some nice tracks on it. First four pretty much, esp. Conspiring With The Dead and Seas Of Blood (or whatever it was called).

Those guys are slowly progressing more and more it seems. I’m not big on the raspy scream -style voice usually, but oh well.
