Death by Smolov

Going to heed my friend’s advice, “wash the sand out of my vagina” and start Smolov in late May when I finally get my act together and finish my university course. PB is 170kg at 90kg and my squatting has been getting worse not better lately, so drastic action is required.

Best of luck with the rest of the cycle lads!

Really no point in washing the sand out. Everything else is going to hurt like hell during Smolov…what’s one more thing? ;)
LMAO @ sandy the vag. Trust Modi, you can leave the sand it, cause every “girl part” in your body will fall out after a week.

Smolov will make you dream of squats even when you are awake. Weights you didn’t think were possible will fall, you just have to stay focused on the workout you are on, don’t think about any other. Don’t be ashamed to drop a couple of kilos off your one rep max. And NEVER give in!

I understand what you mean about your buddies max, it’s really hard to believe what you just did, so making the next 1rm attempt is just a guess.

Best of luck and let any of the guys that have posted in this thread or the “smolov experience” thread if you need guidance or motivational support.

Maybe some ART Chiropractic treatment?

Also, a good acupuncture practitioner. I had serious doubts about acupuncture, but it works for me better than anything. The guy I use when at home treats areas that to me have nothing to do with the pain, but they work. Shows that the body is one piece.

ART is not that effective for me, but does help with the overall picture in my case. I know people that respond extremely well to it.

Massage and Acupuncture a few times a month with an occasional ART treatment are my best friends. Unfortunately over here I can’t get any of it.

Just some thoughts.
I go to my chiropractor when I am really out of whack. If it is something like this, I go to my Bowen therapist. Bowen is like accupressure and it is one of the oddest experiences I have ever had. After my first session, I giggled uncontrollably for 30 minutes.

But for this one know, I will just have my wife do some deep tissue work until it releases. She loves to cause me pain.

I have come to the conclusion that gyms in little rock suck. I went to powerhouse for my “last” smolov workout. The gym is cool. Nice layout, if only I would have know the power cage was in a completely different part of the gym (down stairs). After I smashed my finger re-racking the weights after my first set (the bar was fairly worn and slicker than it felt on lighter sets, so my hands slid out pretty far after my first set and BAM, right on my finger).

I asked if they had medical tape that I could put on the bar to avoid smashing my finger. They didn’t, but the workers there were really helpful and friendly otherwise. The patrons on the other hand were “uncool”, excpet for one dude. No one wanted to even make eye contact. I’m not saying that I expect or enjoy a Chatty-Cathy in gym, but at least a “what’s up” or a nod. Other than that, the gym was well worth another visit.

The important part was the workout. The sets were as follows: 154kg for 3, 183.7 for 4, and 3sets of 4reps w/197kg. I thought about uping my last set to 200kg, but I just wanted to get the workout complete without injury, which I very excitedly did.

I did video the session, but I don’t have enough battery power to upload it at this time. This week, i will hit a 4x4 session with 175, then test out at the end of the week.

are you going to do the 95 for 4reps for 3

or drop back to 80.

I’m seeing like 3 versions here.
I did the 95% for Saturday. It rocked, 3x4 and it was an ok workout.

I just completed my second week of the Base cycle. I hit 10 sets of 3 with 355 today and it has been pretty tough. Its pretty tough keeping up motivation for all these sets. I just kind of put the weight on and somehow seem to be able to do it.

One question for those of you who have finished the base: is taking about 5 days off and testing your max better than waiting the 2-3 weeks? I feel like when i take a lot of time off i lose strength so i was thinking about taking 5 days off then testing, Then testing again after the 2 weeks of explosive stuff. Just wondering what everyone else has done and found.

Personally, the template I use pretty much follows how I train for a meet; i.e. 6days of no squatting (if I bench, it is about 70% for a 5x5). Smolov is written to help you peak, if you follow any of the templates you will be able to hit max lifts on testing day.

Now, there have been some that have said that they have hit better maxes after a week or 2, and I would say that that is due to the substantial pounding that is Smolov. I haven’t done that, so I can’t really say which way is best.

Good luck, and don’t quit.

k, I did the 80 cause that’s what was written on the Ontario Strongman one.

I’ll hit 95% x 3sets x 4 reps On the first taper day though, so I should be alright.

So, is that a two day taper and max’ing out on Sunday? How will this week lay out for you?

Bingo

Monday: 70x3, 80x3, 90x5x5, 95x4x3
Wensday: 75x4, 85x4x4
Sunday: Judgement day

I died a little inside after doing the last 95% rep.

Man, I felt orgasmic when I hit then 95% sets. Now, I only had one set of 5 at 90%. 5x5 seems really extreme for the sets prior.

Ok, that sounds a LOT less insane. Btw, I skipped my taper workout today. With work, not seeing my kids for 2 days, and not feeling 90%, I decided a day off to go into the weekend fresh would be the way to go. We will see if it is the right choice Saturday morning…

Ah good choice. Career and Family comes before the gun show. I have neither, so I went after it anyways, its a relatively tame work out, its more to keep the senses sharp than anything.

Ok, so today was test day. I felt pretty odd. I told Stallion the other day that I feel really loose, which is not a sensation that I have experienced in the past 5 months. 5 months of Smolov Jr and the full Smolov routine. But, I did take a couple of weeks between Jr and the Full. All of the hard work boiled down to 30 seconds under the weights I chose. I wanted to hit three squats; 215.5kg, 226.8kg, and 231.3kg.

I was telling my wife that I haven’t missed a rep in 5 months of squatting, not one and that could come to an end today. When I unracked 215, the memories of this being my switching weight for negatives went thru my head. And how it was more like a car-crusher in a junk yard and less like a negative. That was as close as I came to a negative thought all day. After I hit 226.8, I loaded up for 231, but I was too giddy about hitting 226 before my birthday (one of my goals). I chose to leave 231 in the bag, and walk away healthy (relatively speaking, of course).

I will do another Smolov cycle, but that will be at the end of the year. I have to get my form back on my other lifts (I can’t let Modi out-squat, out-dead, AND out-bench me).

I hope that this thread has helped at least one person, or will help someone in the future. I know that when I read it and watch the earlier vids, I can’t believe that I am now moderately strong in the squat. Thanks to all of the guys that showed your support (too many to name, but you know who you are). That was one of the things that kept me going every day.

NOT FOR THE SQUIMISH:
I came home and laid in bed and showed my wifey the video and she kissed me and told me that she just either got turned on or started her period, so my “after-squat” celebration may be put off for 7 days :-D.

Invi. It’s time for you to get some! Can’t wait to hear from you tomorrrow.

Of course you can, don’t be silly. Relax for a few months, let me build my buffer.

Nice job undersired! Your thread has been a lot of fun to follow, and the results have been impressive.

Thanks man, you aren’t doing too shabby yourself. Can’t wait to see your results in a few weeks.

My tip to you is after Smolov, I will be taking a break, so you should too. Let’s try some new “misunderstood” program that will give us a 50lb gain on all of our lifts just by training at 50% of our 1 rep max and doing 1 work set a week of said exercise.

Hell yeah. I’m in. Gotta get through the Intense first though.

Hey gents

Put up a grand total of 170kg at around 84kg. Missed 180kg. My sets went

100kg x 5
140kg x 2
160kg x 1
170kg x 1
180kg x 1 (missed, spotter assisted)

Makes for a net gain of 25kg.
Somewhat disappointed at not hitting 180kg.
But I did hit a 2xBW which is a pretty significant milestone for me.
Going home to North America soon, and the competition season starts in a month. Will come back hungrier than ever.

Will post video as soon as I can.

That is awesome and sucks at the same time. THAT is why I bought that crappy cage for my gym, so I don’t have a spotter touching me. I was going to attempt 230kg, but I was too psyched AND the kid kept asking me to let him spot me. I wasn’t too keen on the idea and I didn’t want to run the risk of injury after going 5-months with nothing significantly bad happening, so I didn’t do it.

Good luck with your comps. Just remember, when you think your days are tough, you have another Smolov session in your future.

Post that vid, so we can hate on the toolbox that ruined your 180 attempt
