Just read this:

I’m thinking most departments have tasers, I’m really curious as to why it wasn’t used either.

Really? I’m really curious why ANY weapon was used AT ALL.
BECAUSE HE HAD A SWORD!!! AND CLEARLY HE WAS ON DRUGS!!

After looking into this more I’m wondering that too, he’s just using a knife on a board and minding his own business when the cop pulled over.

I can’t believe no one has brought this up yet; that cop was on a mission to kill someone. Not as in “He’s a murderer for shooting a defenseless old man. He just got worked up over nothing and should serve time.” No, that cop wasn’t excited enough at any point to make an ACCIDENT. I think his intent was to kill someone, on purpose, and he was looking for the smallest excused that he could blame it on.

Pedophiles often seek jobs that will provide them access to young children in private and also offer them respect from others. It makes sense that a sociopath would seek the same protection and access to what he wants.

That’s actually a very good point, regarding your second stanza. I concur.

Very good point indeed!

This just boggles my mind. If I would have been shot every time I had a knife out while walking somewhere, I’d be dead hundred times over. Fuck, I even had my knife out during school and didn’t get in trouble don’t understand how a known master carver gets shot for having his knife out.

Lol.

Sure because my black hair, hazel eyes, large facial features, and olive skin just scream white guy. And, the local white supremacist have concluded that Irish are no longer white after all, figures.

Or it could be his location or a million other factors.

I’d have been dropped like a rock at my school by the two cops who patroled it for having a knife out.

There’s an AP story on it, that’s a pretty high profile outlet:

Yeah but how did you even find that? It’s a high profile outlet, but what I’m saying is that non of the major networks picked up the story and broadcasted where I’m at in NYC area. I also didn’t hear it on any of the 24 hour stations like CNN, FOX or NBC. The gay guy jumping off the bridge was about 25 minutes from my house and while I expected that to be on the local news, it ended up being headlined on the 24 hour networks along with constant stories of gay bullying for weeks. I think this story deserves more coverage than that. A government employee gunned down a deaf old man who wasn’t breaking the law!

Before people start calling me naive about how the news networks work, I get it. I’m just airing out my frustration about how I believe the media ignores the abuse of power by the police in the US.
As far as how I found it, I just searched [“John Williams” AND “Ian Burk”]. I believe it was the second-most recent story

What a disgusting, disgraceful, sickening and shameful act. This cop she be tried for murder, and nothing less. Let’s see how BAD he is in prison, weaponless.

I too, being a minority, have had a lot of COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY run ins with cops. The latest example: I was leaving a restaurant where they serve alcoholic beverages (you know, like every restaurant in America). I get into my car and pull out of the parking lot, only to be met with FLASHING POLICE LIGHTS in my rear-view mirror, less than SIXTY SECONDS after leaving the place.

I pull over. This punk-bitch cop tries to reprimand me for having tinted windows, when what he was really doing was trolling for a drunk driver. He thought I was drunk, and pulled me over under the guise of having illegally tinted windows. Mind you, I have had tinted windows for over 5 years now, and have NEVER ONCE BEEN PULLED OVER for it.

This cop was a real pussy though. I basically called him on it (not to brag on this) and the guy literally started stuttering and sweating. I wonder what would have happened if he brought that type of non-confidence to a real bad neighborhood, not the privileged area where I happened to be driving. Long story short, I gave the guy lip, he pussied out, and didn’t give me the ticket.

Also, I hadn’t had a drop of alcohol in 30+ days, but the asshole still had the audacity to shine his flash light in my eyes and put me through the litany of sobriety tests.

FUCK the PO-lice.
This really doesnt seem that bad, it’s what they OUGHT to be doing, pulling over more drunk drivers. Was this just a restaurant that happened to serve wine, or was a it a bar&grill during a big sports game? It seems like he overstepped the bounds of probable cause, but quite frankly, not ENOUGH is done in this country to curb drunk driving, never mind the boogeymen of terrorism and drugs.

If your windows were tinted then it seems unlikely that he pulled you over cuz of race - and by the way, I got pulled over for speeding adn the cop through an illegally tinted window ticket in there too, so it’s not, to the best of my knowledge, such a random charge.

This is one reason I had the dealership do my tint. I know for a fact it is legally the darkest tint I can get.

However, pulling people over randomly just to see if someone is drunk is bullshit. if you are driving in a way that dictates as such, then fine.

I agree, but the cops have you at a certain time of day. A buddy who is a prison guard in New Jersey was leaving about 2:30 am in the morning to go hunting in Jersey. He was pulled over.

The cop said he crossed the yellow line. He showed him his badge. Technically he is considered p9olice in NJ. He asked if he was looking for drunks, the cop said yeah and asked him what he was doing. He was obviously sober btw. He told him his story and went on his way.

BS, yep, but you have to chose your battles. Giving the officer a hassle, even if he is wrong just makes things worse.

I got pulled over by a cop because my headlight was out. He gave me an attitude about it. I explained that the part was on order and how I hit a deer etc. Gave me a warning and sent me on my way.

The guy WAS A PATIENT of mine! Some cops are just dicks.

It’s not only limited to minorities. I’m white and I’ve been pulled over numerous times for just driving around late with my friends and alone. I’ve had black roomates and I’ve been pulled over with them in the car and I’ll admit they were treated worse during the questioning once we were pulled over. This abuse of power affects everyone and it bothers me as much now as it did over 15 years ago when I started noticing it.
A lot of the “getting pulled over for no reason” stuff comes from what car you drive in my experience.
I agree. I’ve had pretty shitty cars but nothing like a broken windshield or tail light. I can remember getting pulled over in an '82 Cadillac coupe deville that I bought for $400 , an ugly 1984 mustang and more than a few times when I had my 1967 2 door Fairlane 500. Unless there was a ban on Fairlane’s that I didn’t know about, there was no reason to pull me over.
Cops profile for AGE and SKIN color. They rarely pull over old white guys.
I’d agree. I got a ticket for speeding going to a PSU game this fall. Small town revenue enhancement. The last time I got pulled over for speeding was last summer.

I was 45 driving a five year old Honda Pilot with my 14 year old son in the front seat. In the back seat I had six guns, with two semi autos, 2 pistols, and two hunting rifles.

Middle aged white guy with a kid speeding = Warning. Even with serious zombie killing firepower.

Young guy with three other young guys in the car doing the same thing( going to the range) = step outside the car and don’t move. Even for the white guys. Now the difference is there is a lot of deer hunting in this rural area, so he’s getting the ticket and not getting the break, and I seriously doubt there would be shooting.

On the other side there is an increase here in drugs and violence. But you can tell the trouble makers by looking at them. They scream of white trash stupid and minority trashy stupid.

You look like your driving your kid to soccer practice, you get treated better, even with different races around here. But that’s a small town area for you. Odds are you know this person for years and know their background. We’ve had two-three generations of troublemakers around here.

I wouldn’t call that profiling or an abuse of power. You were speeding so he pulled you over. What X and I were talking about was getting pulled over for no reason. In his case he specifically related it to race. When I was younger, the cops in our area would just pull you over and ask you where you were going if you drove around and it was late. I think they only do this to younger (under 25) people though since I haven’t been hassled in awhile.

Agreed. I was getting pulled over just for driving at night and I am not a kid nor do I look like one. The last guy flat out asked what I was doing out so late…which caught me off guard seeing as I am a grown man and wasn’t aware that I had to have a reason ready to be out when I pleased. Mind you, I was leaving the gym, but still, why would a cop ask a grown man that question? Shit, what is HE doing out that late?

I will say that they haven’t bothers me like that in the car I am in now. Whether you blame the tint and the fact that you can’t see me well in it because of how low it is or the fact that it is new, I notice a big difference from when they could see me in the truck.

While I agree that you’re almost definitely right about your first point, it’s incredibly hard to prove intent in court.

I am in no way justifying what this cop did. He was wrong and should lose his badge or worse (pending investigation). And there are a number of dick cops out there. Shit, there are plenty. But, before you all start shitting on cops (or should I say shitting on cops some more) spend one day in the life of a cop, see how difficult the job is, and then make your accusations. This is not to say shit cops should get let off the hook, but it’s important to have a little understanding of the job.

Cops deal with some truly awful, awful things. Some have taken the duty, been good people.

Individual cops have pulled me over, stripped my car of everything not bolted down and tossed it on the road (this happens on a regular basis on my trips home), and taken me down a known “hide road” for young couples in love and placed a loaded handgun (NOT their sidearm) against my head and threatened myself and my family.

So far, I’ve not broken any laws which necessitated police intervention. I’ve never been involved with any criminal element, and was in fact known for assisting PIs in their tech setups.

In my current town, the cops are nice, and even the dicks come off as at least doing their DUTY.

My home town, the only fluid I’d poor on a burning cop would be gasoline.
