Deaf Native American Shot by Police

I would have felt the same way as you ten years ago. Now, I just wonder why it took so fucking long for everyone else to notice it.
It’s not only limited to minorities. I’m white and I’ve been pulled over numerous times for just driving around late with my friends and alone. I’ve had black roomates and I’ve been pulled over with them in the car and I’ll admit they were treated worse during the questioning once we were pulled over. This abuse of power affects everyone and it bothers me as much now as it did over 15 years ago when I started noticing it.

What a disgusting, disgraceful, sickening and shameful act. This cop she be tried for murder, and nothing less. Let’s see how BAD he is in prison, weaponless.

I too, being a minority, have had a lot of COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY run ins with cops. The latest example: I was leaving a restaurant where they serve alcoholic beverages (you know, like every restaurant in America). I get into my car and pull out of the parking lot, only to be met with FLASHING POLICE LIGHTS in my rear-view mirror, less than SIXTY SECONDS after leaving the place.

I pull over. This punk-bitch cop tries to reprimand me for having tinted windows, when what he was really doing was trolling for a drunk driver. He thought I was drunk, and pulled me over under the guise of having illegally tinted windows. Mind you, I have had tinted windows for over 5 years now, and have NEVER ONCE BEEN PULLED OVER for it.

This cop was a real pussy though. I basically called him on it (not to brag on this) and the guy literally started stuttering and sweating. I wonder what would have happened if he brought that type of non-confidence to a real bad neighborhood, not the privileged area where I happened to be driving. Long story short, I gave the guy lip, he pussied out, and didn’t give me the ticket.

Also, I hadn’t had a drop of alcohol in 30+ days, but the asshole still had the audacity to shine his flash light in my eyes and put me through the litany of sobriety tests.

FUCK the PO-lice.
The hell dude, I figured you’d get out of the situation with a tooth pick, some glue, and a paperclip. Your avatar is misleading.

I agree. I’ve had pretty shitty cars but nothing like a broken windshield or tail light. I can remember getting pulled over in an '82 Cadillac coupe deville that I bought for $400 , an ugly 1984 mustang and more than a few times when I had my 1967 2 door Fairlane 500. Unless there was a ban on Fairlane’s that I didn’t know about, there was no reason to pull me over.

Honest question, do Asians generally have this problem?

I really don’t know. To my knowledge, around here, Asians are stereotyped as being bad drivers but not criminal, so maybe not?

Nice. So from an asian woman to an old man. That’d be a coin toss for who’s the worst driver.

The age thing has some truth to it. I still drive shitty cars but don’t get pulled over randomly since I hitting my 30’s.

White anarchist kids crack me up. They rail against the system and talk about class war, yet they are benefiting from the system and their class because it allows them to have the leisure time and money to complain and try to make up for their white guilt.

On topic, I feel bad for the man’s family and community.
I am glad I crack you up? How am I benefiting from the system and my class? I am so benefiting from the system being a low-class, poor, blue collar, Irish kid from south Phoenix. What exactly are my benefits? Koolaid and hot dogs everyday? Oh, yes my wonderful leisure time and money. You mean working from dawn til dusk to make enough money that eventually I don’t need to worry about working from dawn til dusk to make sure my family has food on the table?

Yeah but how did you even find that? It’s a high profile outlet, but what I’m saying is that non of the major networks picked up the story and broadcasted where I’m at in NYC area. I also didn’t hear it on any of the 24 hour stations like CNN, FOX or NBC. The gay guy jumping off the bridge was about 25 minutes from my house and while I expected that to be on the local news, it ended up being headlined on the 24 hour networks along with constant stories of gay bullying for weeks. I think this story deserves more coverage than that. A government employee gunned down a deaf old man who wasn’t breaking the law!

Before people start calling me naive about how the news networks work, I get it. I’m just airing out my frustration about how I believe the media ignores the abuse of power by the police in the US.
They could be profiled depending on the circumstances, if they are an old white man leaving a drug neighborhood at 12AM an officer might have their suspicions.

^ Yes, yes there are thousands of what if’s, great. Carry on.

Basically same shit different day, and society wonders why a majority of minorities raise their kids not to trust in the police.

Missing white woman syndrome (MWWS) or missing pretty girl syndrome is a vernacular term for the alleged disproportionately greater degree of coverage in television, radio, newspaper and magazine reporting of a misfortune, most often a missing person case, involving a young, attractive, white, middle-class (or above) woman, compared with cases concerning a missing male, or missing females of other ethnicities or economic classes.

In the Iraq War

Critics have also pointed to media bias in the coverage of soldier Jessica Lynch versus that of her fellow soldiers, Shoshana Johnson and Lori Piestewa. All three were ambushed in the same attack during the Iraq War on March 23, 2003, with Piestewa being killed and Lynch and Johnson being injured and taken prisoner. Lynch, a young, blonde, white woman, received far more media coverage than Johnson (a black woman and a single mother) and Piestewa (a Hopi from an impoverished background, and also a single mother), with media critics suggesting that the media gave more attention to the woman with whom audiences would more readily identify.

Lynch criticized this disproportionate coverage focusing only on her, stating in a congressional testimony before the United States House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform:

â?? I am still confused as to why they chose to lie and tried to make me a legend when the real heroics of my fellow soldiers that day were, in fact, legendary. People like Lori Piestewa and First Sergeant Dowdy who picked up fellow soldiers in harm’s way. Or people like Patrick Miller and Sergeant Donald Walters who actually fought until the very end. The bottom line is the American people are capable of determining their own ideals of heroes and they don’t need to be told elaborate tales. "

I couldn’t tell if the cop had a taser on him or not, but you would think that should would have been a better option, not that the man deserved to be tased…just saying.

Edit:

Just read this:

“Officer Birk was not equipped with a Taser, Metz said, adding that SPD advises officers not to use less-lethal equipmentâ??such as a Taser or pepper sprayâ??when they are facing a suspect armed with a potentially deadly weapon, like a knife or a gun. Typically, police will only use less-lethal weapons when they have backup from another officer.”

I’m thinking most departments have tasers, I’m really curious as to why it wasn’t used either.
