I agree with you. But that wasn’t main my point. My main point is that police seem to be given this free pass to do whatever they want and the media won’t hold them accountable for it. Shit like this needs to make the national headlines regardless of the race of the victim although I will admit the public would’ve been more sympathetic if it was an elderly white lady.

Maybe the Canadian networks have more sense than ours, but it did not hit the mainstream media here. When you see - on video - that the attempted stop was poorly justified and arbitrary at best, when the police have to change the official version of events after it’s contradicted by both video evidence as well as eyewitness accounts, and when an inquest finds that the shooting isn’t justified, what more are you looking to know?

It’s likely because he was Canadian and Canadians hurt, injured or killed outside of Canada seem to always make headlines plus police abuses and fuckups also seem to be making a lot of headlines since we had that guy killed by a taser at Vancouver airport.
Google news searching ‘man shot by police Seattle’ seems to have mostly Canadian sources at the top but that might be because I’m searching from Canada.

Yeah but how did you even find that? It’s a high profile outlet, but what I’m saying is that non of the major networks picked up the story and broadcasted where I’m at in NYC area. I also didn’t hear it on any of the 24 hour stations like CNN, FOX or NBC. The gay guy jumping off the bridge was about 25 minutes from my house and while I expected that to be on the local news, it ended up being headlined on the 24 hour networks along with constant stories of gay bullying for weeks. I think this story deserves more coverage than that. A government employee gunned down a deaf old man who wasn’t breaking the law!

I agree but this is not new. This is old news in black communities and we have had people even say that “our attitude” is why we get harassed more. I get pulled over so much it isn’t funny. I know for fact it is because of the car or bike I drive and my skin color…because most times no ticket is even given. They just wanted to fuck with me.
I would have felt the same way as you ten years ago. Now, I just wonder why it took so fucking long for everyone else to notice it.

I too, being a minority, have had a lot of COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY run ins with cops. The latest example: I was leaving a restaurant where they serve alcoholic beverages (you know, like every restaurant in America). I get into my car and pull out of the parking lot, only to be met with FLASHING POLICE LIGHTS in my rear-view mirror, less than SIXTY SECONDS after leaving the place.
I pull over. This punk-bitch cop tries to reprimand me for having tinted windows, when what he was really doing was trolling for a drunk driver. He thought I was drunk, and pulled me over under the guise of having illegally tinted windows. Mind you, I have had tinted windows for over 5 years now, and have NEVER ONCE BEEN PULLED OVER for it.
This cop was a real pussy though. I basically called him on it (not to brag on this) and the guy literally started stuttering and sweating. I wonder what would have happened if he brought that type of non-confidence to a real bad neighborhood, not the privileged area where I happened to be driving. Long story short, I gave the guy lip, he pussied out, and didn’t give me the ticket.
Also, I hadn’t had a drop of alcohol in 30+ days, but the asshole still had the audacity to shine his flash light in my eyes and put me through the litany of sobriety tests.
