Deads Vs Squats

Hey coach, I’m going to school here at Kansas State University. I will be graduating next May(praying that is!). I will definetly look into that mentoring program after I get out. That would be great opportunity for me. Thanks again.

Coach, I have no problem moving my Thursday workout to Friday. What sort of Programme would you suggest? I am not trained in any of the olympic lifts so would struggle to effectively incorporate these execises.

Thanks again!

just wanted to throw a few things at you for your training sessions. It might give you a change of pace you will like because I know you are also interested in functional training.
On Sunday, add Glute Hams (natural) 4 sets x 25. On Wednesday, start your session with kettle-bell (substitute dumbell) snatch 4 x 30, Hang Snatch to full Overhead Squat (stay light) 3 x 3-5. After your biceps, perform Glute Hams as before. Each of these exercises are performed sub-maximal and in the early stages of this training, work with low-moderate rest intervals. Post workout add a 5 minute wheelbarrow walk or Farmers walk. Friday - using kettle-bells or dumbells, perform bent-press, 5 x 10. You can also add a few sets of light dumbell clean and press or 5-7 reps (one arm at a time, sub-maximal). I would also consider adding some high rep Bradford Presses, ie 3 x 15. Post this workout, repeat the wheelbarrow/farmers walk using 60% of Wednesday’s load for same time duration. Now this is just for the first week or two, so get back to me. It will take time but the variation will be tremendous for your development. In faith, Coach Davies

Coach, Thanks again for you input and I look forward to incorporating the exercises you advise.

I do however have a problem in that the majority of the lifts you recommend are new to me! Is there anywhere I can look for a full description of how to perform glute-hams (without a bench), dumbell snatch, hang snatch to full overhead squat, dumbell cleans and bradford press? Also, can I recreate a wheelbarrow/farmers walk in a gym? Will this be covered in your upcomming article?

I’m sure this will be of benefit to a number of readers as the majority of us have been schooled in modern, body-building exercises and have little or no experience of functional training.

I’m very excited about this and look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, thanks for taking the time.

T-Rex: each of these exercises are covered in the upcoming articles and the Glute-Hams were also handled by TC’s this week. Technique will come but soon you can call yourself the Renaissance man of bodybuilding. In faith, Coach Davies

Thanks for you help Coach, I look forward to your articles. I’m looking forward to applying some good, old fashioned, brute-force and chucking some serious weight around the gym! I’ll let you know how I get on in the near future.

With regards and sincerest thanks.
