Last night my back went on the last rep of my final set of Deadlifts. I lifted this weight last week with no pain, and had planned to go up some weight with another set. Unfortunately on the last rep I performed, I felt a click and some mild pain in my lower back. The pain was not ‘really’ painful, but was enough to make me think ‘uh oh that wasn’t good’.
My question isn’t why I hurt my back, more what is the likely damage I have done and how long it should take to heal. This morning my back is a little stiff and painful when I lean forward (indicative of a little back rounding during the lift). Anyone feedback from anyone who has experienced this would be appreciated. Also what is the likely injury? Thanks.
This sounds exactly like an injury that i picked up deadlifting too.
I was told by a doctor that it was a small bone at the bottom of my spine that had slid out of place and was sitting on my pelvis and hitting nerves. I was advised to rest it for a week and then went to see a physio. Luckily this guy is a sports physio and has alot of experience so he knew straight away what was up.
He had me do a lot of single leg work (stiff leg DL’s, good mornings) and a lot of hip mobility work. The main thing is, get it checked, and BE PATIENT.
I took it easy for about 6 weeks and just yesterday I DL’d the weight that injured me (on a single) 8 months ago for 5 reps.
Any time I’ve any back pain now I run through EC and MR’s Get Your Butt In Gear parts 1 and 2 for a week and the difference is amazing.
