Yeah, had a coccyx flaw up recently, but my spine is ok…I think lol
Jes, I forgot how good your strength endurance is, 500lb for 6 sets of 3 would leave me on the floor. Good luck going forward.
WSM; jes, I seen that, unreal. I hear two of my favourites have thrown their hats in, Nick Best and Jerry Pritchett. Still want Tom to win though. Tbh, those heats are looking tough enough. Should be good.
Hi Rob,
WSM: yes, Pritchett and Best. Two who can still cause some damage on the big stage, although I think podium finishes might be a bridge too far now. Unfortunately, Oberst is there as well. Oddly, a lot of people on Strongman forums seem to think he’ll do well! A very good presser and that’s it.
More admin errors at the comp: Oleksii Novikov was moved to Brian Shaw and Luke Stoltman’s heat in a post-C-19 reshuffle. When it was pointed out that 3 of the top 6-8 in one heat was a bit extreme it was changed again. Another year like 2020 and WSM will lose its primacy to the Arnolds. Kieliszkowski’s had his triceps surgery today. A big miss and the organiser’s cluelessness doesn’t help.
Good to read Pete Bremner’s still training close by. Mind you, you did say his routines would bury most natural lifters.
Good luck with the training. The farmer’s seems to be kicking in well. I tried sandbag carries up a dune the other day. God! That was a killer. Bag pressing on the chest and inhibiting the breathing. I might see if I can fit my trap bar and some plates into my car’s boot and try that. But the great thing about the former is all I need is an empty bag and a shovel. Sorted.
@RayWilliams
Oh yeah, I agree, they ain’t going place high, but it’ll be good to see them compete. Oberst…ugh, he cant even claim to have the American log press record anymore. Haven’t been on the SM forum here.
The WSM contest and how its organized is a joke, and some of those events last year was just ridiculous…such as having a heavy loading event on sand. Although, I recall in Sun City they had it in water ffs. The Arnold shows is where it’s at now imo.
Yeah Pete’s still about, in limbo, waiting to go back to the states once the travel bands are lifted. Yeah I mean hes methods work, theres one individual he trained for just a month who’s lifts went all up, but the same guy was a walking zombie…completely drained. Of course, he didnt have him go into the contest fatigued, he had him do a much lighter week before the show.
But in general, its just my opinion the Westside method was never intended for natural trainees.
Good work on the LCs on sand…uphill (you training for WSM lol).
A quick post about a training buddy and friend of mine…
Hes 33, 5’10 and weighs in at around 330lb. A great guy in many ways, what’s most amazing about him is that hes riddled with cancer, and yet comes in 4 days per week to train as hard as he can. It leaves him excused, but sure enough he comes back to do it all again.
Yesterday he TBDLed 500lb (he used to pull 800lb). He missed the first 3rd attempts, I asked him if he was just fatigued, he said “nah, it’s the cancer in my spine, but it’s not in control…AM in control”. And with that he bent down, took up his position and ripped the bastard off the floor and stood up with it. A true warrior.
I hopefully get some pics up of him training later in the week.
Hey bud, might be going to a show on the 6th next month, James Hickey is looking to take back he masters deadlift world record, think hes going for 440kg. Be great to be there for that👍
Fingers crossed. I think his 435kg record was fairly easy. Going on memory so I may be wrong with my recollection.
Keeping updated with WSM? Novikov looks strong. Oberst surprising me. The Stoltmans need to do a bit of work, as do Bishop and Hicks
Hi Rob,
454kg will smash the current record. I can recall Hickey struggling with 350kg not too many years ago. Ah well, we know the score.
WSM: dropping like flies. Pena has a heart scare, Singleton tore his biceps, Toots had issues with his knee, Bilton has rib damage from squats, rumour that Oberst injured his biceps too and Luke Stoltman may have been carrying an injury. Pretty much par for the course, in truth.
Hey Ray, ha yes “the score” lol. Am gonna do my best to get down, been offered a lift down with a couple of other guys competing. Looonnng drive though…and i hate long car journeys. Might stay over in my hol apartment in Portrush, that would break up the journey for me.
WSM; jes i seen those. But i see Pritchett made the final, and deadlifts and farmers are 2 of the events which of course suit him. 4 Brits though aswell…looking good. Lets see what happens.
Oh, Pete is heading back for Westside this weekend, but first hes to fly to Dubai and quarantine there for 2 weeks, then he can fly over tothe States. The things youve gotta do to get on Louie’s board lol.
Well, sold my leg extension and preacher curl machine today, gonna also sell my shoulder pres and lat pulldown. I went a bit mad at the start of lockdown in March.
Keeping my home gym for free weight basics again, ive already plenty tri grip rubber coated plates, a power bar, texas bar, ez bar, trap bar, landmine set up etc. No point in getting another power rack, i dont squat or bench press anymore.
The only thing i might get is calibrated steel (for when i fancy rack pulls) plates and a dual cable machine. Ill keep an eye out for decent second handers or offers,
Hey bud, did ya see the results? Pritchett just missed out on a podium finish, he was in second going into the final event. But it made roon for Tom, I’d only he’d have had a better Hercules hold finish, I thought grip was one of his strengths? Nov though in a league of his own, dont think i anyone expected him to pull so much on the deadlift, fair play, deserving winner.
