My DL goal is to deadlift 660lbs by the end of the year at a bodyweight of 220lbs. At a shade under 6’3" I’ll look real skinny if I get down to 220. I also want to dunk a b-ball without a step. I imagine the dunking goal will occur sooner than the DL goal if I get my weight down but I am 35yo so I may tear something first.
Good Luck with the 800! Even if you get close that will still rock, won’t it?
I can understand the skepticism but I would like to explain myself. Currently I am at 700 however I did state that I want to hit 800 by the end of this year which I know is unrealistic. However I have always had this approach. I will use an example, august of 2007 I maxed on the bench press and got 205. I said to myself I wanted to hit 300 by my birthday which is March 1st of 2008. Now I didnt get it in March but I got 300 three months later in June of 2008. When I know I cant do the lift by my goal date I dont get frustrated but I train even harder and I look to see where my screw ups are.
I will admit again I know its crazy but that is my mental approach towards both lifting and life in general, work on improving yourself and have optimism and things will happen. I am still going to go for 800, however I am open to realism. I would like to ask what do all of you guys think would be a good goal by the end of this year?
I’m saying that a guy weighing in the mid 200’s pulling 700 is believable in my opinion. Why, can’t you deadlift in the 700’s?
lol of course man! i can deadlift 750! with one hand! i have yet to meet someone on the internet who couldnt deadlift AT LEAST 700.
we must have got our wires crossed, im aware that a mid 700 deadlift is a joke ON THE INTERNET. however, in real life, a 198lber DLing 700+ is fucking RARE you asshole.
you seem to be suggesting that a 700lb deadlift is pussy weight.
a 700lb deadlift is RARE full stop. please save me the story of how you only know people who pull 700, and where you come from anyone DLing 699 or less is liable to a beatdown in the lockers for being such a pussy.

I don’t know what is realistic for you by the end of the year. How much has your DL come up in the last year? What do you think it would take to advance 100lbs in six months? I think that Konstantinovs increased his max alot in a year or so by adjusting his technique and changing his training.

Over the summer of 2007 I did a bit of deadlifting, basically to learn the movement. Max in the fall of 2007 was around 500 or so. Around thanksgiving time of 2008 max was 650, and now currently 700. So gains are slower. Also I started doing squats fall of 2007, and my max was around 400, I was about 215 but I was a bit shorter at 6’3". Current squat now 585 with belt, but I want to see what I can do with wraps. Also improving my squat helps my deadlift a lot, especially since my weakest part of the lift is straight from the floor.
a little perspective as well, the kid claims to be a strongman. derek poundstone, arguably the best strongman in the world DLs around 815 i think. misha koklaev around 900 or so. 800+ for a strongman is seriously seriously good. like best on the planet good.
obviously its not impossible, but it almost is.

You clearly know nothing about deadlift numbers in strongman. There are several guys on the amateur circuit who deadlift 800+ Ryan Bracewell, and Andrew Palmer to name a few. Also just about all pro strongman that are decent can deadlift over 800. Poundstone is deadlifting near 900, as well as Ortmayer and so on. Deadlifting numbers have just skyrocketed in the strongman field over the past few years. Besides that they cant specifically train just for the deadlift they have to be well rounded strength athletes.

Except I am a 235lbs guy claiming to deadlift in the high 400’s, that not really impressive. You claim to pull 700+, there’s a difference. Also, I will not be declaring victory on the 5 plate deadlift until I do it in a meet on the 27th. It will be video taped and posted.
on claiming to be able to do something, that he cannot do?
he doesnt sound like he has a clue what he is talking about thats why. 700-800+ in only 6 months???
on top of that hes only 19 years old. as far as im aware, andy bolton the greatest DLer in history was pulling around 900 at 19. if this guy is gonna pull 800+ at 19, that is pretty fucking rare to say the least. up there with the best of all time kinda rare.

I’m a 16 year old kid claiming to be able to deadlift 500 easy. Do you believe me?
Anyhow, like the topicstarter, I like to set my goal high, so you have to work hard on actually achieving that goal, anyhow, I do see your point.

the difference between pulling 500 and pulling over 800 is the difference between night and day.
The difference of pulling 700 at 19y.o. heavy weight vs. 500easy at 16y.o lighter weight ain’t that big.

yes it is. i dont really want to go back and forth with this. well done on pulling 500 at age 16, it is impressive.
however, 500 DLs are extremely common, there are even a lot of athletic 16 year olds who can pull 500. there is a relatively famous PL who pulled 550 at age 16 at around 175lbs THE VERY FIRST DAY HE EVER DID A DEADLIFT. over a full decade later having gained body weight and used steroids and trained his ass off i think he is now at around 750. this is a guy who has extreme genetic ability and dedicated his whole life to the sport.
700 DLs are not common outside of high standard PL comps, there is a VERY small number of 19 year olds who can pull 700.
As far as i know, even the most gifted of all people have never approached 700 particularly early in their training. maybe a handful have. the reason is because 700-800+ DLs are reeeeally heavy lol.
maybe the OP can DL 700 at age 19. if he can then he is exceptionally strong, as that is not a common occurence in any way at all.

I know more people at 19-22 who pull 700 than people my age doing speed pulls around 500, in reverse band I do 528 for speed pulls, but I never really max out, that we don’t do alot where I come from. Ahyhow, enough about all this, 700 @ 19 y.o. is impressive, yes.
To be honest I wanted this page to be about people’s deadlifting goals and the way they are training to achieve it, not to have people say how strong or fake I was.
