Hey, congrats! That sounds like a great opportunity. Ill type up thoughts tonight.
Sorry about last night. Wife reminded me I had to be up at 4am to take kids to dentist. I crashed shortly after getting home from work.
Favorite management books;
*Effective Executive - I read 7 times last year and am working on second this year.
*Extreme Ownership and Dichotomy of Leadership
*Principles
Depending on the specifics of what the culture/nature of work is, I also suggest:
*Mistakes were made but not by me
*Skin in the Game
*Good to Great
*Measure what matters
*What you do is who you are
*The Most Important Thing
Quick update on life:
Still lifting and (not) eating well. I’ve consistently been at 206, but not weighing as often. On my birthday (Tuesday), after working until 8pm, I went out with a coworker and had 5 drinks. Overall my cals were still under for the day, but weight shot up to 212. I’m sure it will drop as I drink more water and get back to consistency.
I woke up on the 26th with my back out (welcome to 30s). Nursing it back to life, but 7 hour drives don’t help.
Kids are great. Wife is great. Work is stressful.
I’m struggling with the balance of 5 employees who have been with us less than 6 months, losing my right hand man (he is quitting to sell his house and live as a nomad traveling across US for 10 months), running an office 4 hours from home, growing our home office (strategic planning, leading an SOP creation effort, B&D) and spending enough time with family. There is tremendous pressure to spend adequate time on each of those groups. I am completely unable to manage my time right now. 24 hours is not enough time in the day and I am reducing sleep/relaxing activities to compensate. I’m not at a point where I am killing myself with work, but, for example, typically while I drive for 4 hours I will turn my phone off and ‘think’. I’m now using that time to work and make phone calls. On Wednesday, I started a song when I departed the city I work in and 3.5 hours later, I got off the phone and the same song hadn’t finished.
Can someone please explain how I weight 219.5 right now? I legit have no idea. It’s like I’ve gained 14lbs in a week.
Bad food, insufficient sleep, too much stress.
Those things can literally kill you, dude. I admire your work ethic, but is there a plan that involves you not doing this in a few years time?
Your scale is broke? That’s impressive even by my standards. Did you change the time of day and circumstances under which you weigh yourself?
Would second Flap. Been following along, and while I respect what you’re doing, it doesn’t seem sustainable. Or, at least not in a way that also allows for fantastic health. You know what you’re doing though - but maybe the scale doesn’t ![]()
No worries bro. It was actually my mistake, Chris explained it.
Hope you are well!
Congrats!
I got nothing to add to the titles Chris gave you. But, you may consider some stuff on dealing with stress - like meditation stuff. Highly recommend The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck.
What kind of dentist is up at 4am?
These two could definitely be at play.
Yea, it goes into effect in two years, unless I can self-promote through growth.
Another book I read 2-3 times a year. Just saw that Manson released a third one as well.
The kid’s dentist takes patients for surgeries at 5am.
I weighed right before bed. That seems like a terrible idea, except, I haven’t been above 210/1 in awhile.
I’m sure the alcohol on Tuesday is contributing.
I can “gain” 8 lbs throughout the day if I eat too much or eat poorly. Don’t stress.
Thanks a lot for the book suggestions, I’ll definitely check a few of them out.
I think you’re doing an amazing job with what you have on your plate, lots of respect from me. I could not juggle what you’re currently juggling, but I would definitely recommend saving a little time for yourself (somewhere/how).

Morning Weight: ??
Hit the road at 645am, ate a protein bar at that time. Been in meetings, then dealt with a very contentious discussion at a job site from 3-7PM. Ended up being there way longer than anticipated. Headed straight to office to deal with some work I have to get done prior to tomorrow. It’s 8pm, haven’t eaten at all today, other than that protein bar.
Definitely a struggle today as didn’t talk to wife or kids until 7pm, when kids go to bed. Going to leave office, head to gym, then store and get a steak to grill up tonight while I work at the house.
