Tandem Nate pinching!
Phil~
Which airport would one fly into?
temporarily filling in for Phill
Airport: Either Dulles (IAD) or Reagan National. Both are easily accessible and a short trip from anywhere in DC. As to which would be preferable, that is dependent upon the location of the seminar/hotel.
If anyone does fly into Dulles, I can probably pick you up/port you about (saves on cab/car fees), as I live about ten minutes from the airport. Yes, I am whoring myself/residence out. I am greedy and want people to show up.
OK peeps. A quick lil update before taking a little unscheduled break from planning here.
I have been called away for the weekend on emergency Family matters back to Kansas. Just stating this so you all know why I may not answer PM’s and emails for a few days as well as the updates taking a day or two longer than planned.
I am VERY close on picking the venue and Hotel. Etc.
Schwag. I will say I have not even really put any effort into this yet and still allready have some AWESOME!!! stuff coming in. Along side the Biotest schwag (SWEEET!!!) it looks like we will be giving away some cool goodies.
Airports. Well Daven covered this above THANKS. My personal preference is Regan National Airport just for it being Close to My house and Very close to the City and It is looking as it will be very close to this seminar. But if it boils down to price Go with either Public Transportation here is actually very good and will get you to where ever this ends up with very little headaches and minimal cost. I will warn however STEER clear of BWI On expedia etc it often comes up as a choce and will leave you in Baltimore which while VERY close will leave you with a LONG ride and hefty bill.
OK I will be back to nailing these details and such with any luck Monday morning.
Thanks for all the interest. I hope you all can make it and have a BLAST!!

How 'bout Chris “irresistable ass” Shugart.
He he.
If anyone else is heading down from the New England area, I am thinking about trying to get some kind of carpool arrangement cracking. Also trying to convince UConn’s Favorite Son, Eric Cressey, to attend and carpool along as well.

hey guys, glad to hear a decent amount of people are coming or trying to anyway, i’m not a big poster, but do occasionally, and try to take part int he dc/nova tcell whenever possible, anyway if anyone needs a ride or directions pm me and ill try to help out.
Like Phill said, avoid BWI, it’ll be more expensive and take more time to get to DC.
Dulles has taxis and a bus service to the metrorail. National has taxis, a metrorail stop, and is the closest to DC - you can get more info regarding transportation by metro to/from all 3 airports here: http://www.wmata.com/riding/visitors/airports.cfm#national
You’ll have your choice of hotels if you decide to stay in one. I’d suggest checking out hotels.com and comparing rates.
Plenty of sightseeing too. Old Town Alexandria has some great restaurants to choose from.
I need some travel advice.
I live in Massachusetts and am thinking of driving to this seminar. I don’t mind driving…especially when I’m by myself and can sing my head off.
According to map quest, it will take me approx 6.5 hours to get there. Then I’ll have a car there. Is that smart?
I’m thinking of parking (but I can park at the hotel, because the seminar is there, right?).
Or should I just fly? 1 hour 25 mins. Approx. $200.
Advice please! I can’t make decisions. I’m thinking of the weather too (for those of you who don’t know, we get snow here on the east coast!)
I’m excited for this already.
Phil, I hope everything is okay…

I’m definitely coming now, just to give Alwyn someone to hate in the Audience.
I’ll also be pleased to spill the beans on the Great Scottish contribution to healthy nutrition: deep-fried Mars Bars. ![]()
(In addition to now living in Tennesee, I used to live near Glasgow for a couple of years. I like the Scots, but the weather sucks!).
WiZlon
Personally, I’ll drive (6 hours), but that’s probably because my family will come up too, and do the Museums and such.
However, if it’s just you, flying makes sense: D.C. has a great Metro, which can get you most places.
If you can, fly to National. The Metro runs straight to it (walking distance). There’s also some good hotels right on the Metro line near the hotel - safe and easy to get to (the Marriott Crystal City and Marriott Gateway hotels - both are OK, but the gyms suck. Not especially cheap, but you might be able to get a good rate if you book now?).
Regards & hope to see some of you there. ![]()

Most hotels have parking areas for their cars so I’d think you can leave it there for the weekend.
Depending on the hotel, you could either walk or take a taxi to the nearest metrostop or just go straight to wherever the forum is going to be.
Heck, I think there’s enough of us DC t-maggers here who’d be willing to pick up you or anyone else coming in from a hotel.
I can seat 3 people in my car. 4 if they’re really friendly, so that should give Nate Dogg plenty of excuses. ![]()
In terms of snow, we don’t get a lot, so unless there’s a blizzard you should be ok.
Thank you both for your advice on traveling. Something to think about!
See you there!
Regarding flying vs. driving in to DC:
As it has been stated, cars are kind of useless for the seminar. The metro works wonderfully if you are just bopping about DC. And if you need a lift to/from the airport/hotel, there are many DC T-maggers who could drive you about.
As for driving here, you would have to contend with DC traffic. And believe me, no one wants to do that.
What is that you ask? Why yes, I have been living/driving in this area way too long and travel a lot. grin
