The ems article was very interesting. Nice application of a rehab modality and the science behind it outside the box.
Now I just need to save my pennies. $10 down, 369 to go

Boss that is 100% true… I dont think anyone would disagree with that. If that is all you are trying to say then I apologise.

You nailed it on head! I’m in no way discrediting his methods only trying to get you guys to jump of his wagon, in other words you need to learn from every coach (and take what benefits your training). There comes a time when you need to jump of the bandwagon and design your own system and implement it…

Also you said you worked with Randy Johnson, I thought he was working with a friend of mine Brett Fischer every off season in Arizona?
Lastly did you compete in the last NASA meet in Arizona, I believe this past March. Maybe, I saw you there. Filmed quite a bit and what gym do you lift with?

No I don’t presently train RJ, I said I have worked with him not that I work with him.
No I haven’t competed for a year, I injured my knee while training in BJJ (torn ACL). I plan to compete in the meet this weekend (10-30-04 in Mesa) if my knee doesn’t hurt.
I lift out of Thorbecks weight lifting club in Tempe. The best (most hard core) power lifting/O’lifting gym in the state, we have lots of world champions and state/world records. It’s a semi private key club.

Okay fair enough… I guess I can only speak for myself, but Im not on a bandwagon (although it may have come across that way).
I (and in my opinion most people should) try to learn from as many different sources as possible. So many people however just so dismissive. I try to encourage openmindedness. You are trying to do the same thing I guess. We could probably both do it a little better ![]()
Boss,
I have to admit, man, your well thought out, word processed, edited yet un-spellchecked posts have left me confused.
Let me try to get this straight; Now you’re saying that you called his methods ‘bullshit’ because you want people to learn from other coaches?!
That makes a world of sense…especially since the topic of this thread is about Dietrich so discussion will (get this) tend to center around him and his methods opposed to other coaches (strange, huh?). Again, I may be alone on this one, but I don’t remember having to sign a waiver saying that I vow to give penance just because I decided to participate in discussion on this thread! And I don’t know about anyone else but I sure as hell didn’t have to sign up for the DB fan club, either!
I don’t think you are going to raise argument over whether or not we should pull information from as many sources as possible…but you do come off as a jealous coach when all you do is call his methods a waste of time- especially considering you said you liked what he had to offer BEFORE this thread started to gain popularity.
Maybe I’m the only one who feels this way, but if you are going to try to convince somebody of something then at least have SOME substantial support lined up before you instigate a debate. Right now you sound like George-dub giving an un-prompted speech as you ramble off contradictions like Kerry.
Sorry, man, just calling it like I see it. I’m sure one day we might train together and have a good laugh over this one. ![]()
And you asked about my results; you can read about these in one of my previous posts above.
Now can we please get back to some meaningful discussion here??? If not, I’m out like Moneymaker at the 2004 WPT.
Peace,
Brad

Are you attacking me or Dietrich? And for what?
Now that we’ve had a few individuals post some results that they gained from reading the book, why don’t you please fill us in about your past few months of “results” and specifically state how you achieved them? I’m sure there’s more than a handful of us that would love to hear this!
No I?m not attacking you nor DB, I?m attacking his book and fallacious system. You may have had good results with HIS system but remember that no one system or person holds the keys to athletic mastery.
For the past year I have utilized a modified Westside system. Mind you I?m a powerlifter so my goals focus on limit strength with a small amount of strength-speed. My lifts total elite in the NASA federation, I hold a world BB curl record as well as 2 state records in powerlifting. I?m completely drug free, having never used a performance enhancing drug. My lifts are as follows Squat 760lb up 70lb since the beginning of the year, deadlift is a cool 755lbs up 55lb since the beginning of the year, and my bench press is 400lb up about 30lb since the beginning of the year. Hope that answers your question.
Why not tell us about your results and some athletes you train, if any.

BOSS,
Those are some great numbers and congratulations on totalling Elite in NASA. I too am drug free and have never used a performance enhancing drug. I also compete in NASA and I have a few questions and some food for thought.
Have you changed gear in the last year that might attribute to your gains? What wt class do you compete in? According to your Elite status I would assume the 242’s or the one above that.
I have competed in two meets this year. Those being the NM State Meet in May and the World Cup in Aug. There were exactly 12 wks between those two meets. I took one week off after NM and trained for 11wks for the World Cup. During those 11wks I used DB’s Auto-Regulatory training system. Here are my numbers:
My squat increased 72# (528 to 600), my bench increased 55# (363 to 418), and my deads increased 45# (455 to 500). My total between the two meets increased by 168lbs (that’s counting my 4th attempt BP of 418). I had a 10 lift meet. This is 51lbs short of Elite for the 181’s. I did not change one thing about my gear between these meets. Again, all lifts were done with EXACTLY the same gear. The only thing different between these meets was my training. Before May I was also using Westside. I currently hold 11 state records, 8 american records, and my 418# BP ties the world record (all for NASA). These numbers/records can all be verified on the NASA website under meet results. They will be in the intermediate division for the 181’s for both meets.
I have no doubt that you are training hard for your increases. To be Elite is not easy and takes hard work and dedication. But, according to you, you increased your lifts by a total of 155lbs in approximately 10 months (40wks). My total increased 168lbs in just 11wks!
WOULDN’T YOU PREFER TO WORK JUST AS HARD BUT REAP GREATER RESULTS!!!
PS: My training partner increased his total by 110lbs between the same two meets!

Squattin,
He figuratively slapped a brick of information on my desk. I then had to chisel it down to the meat and potatoes(it started out as a 50+ page thesis of sorts). Nevertheless, I’m glad you enjoyed it and I apologize it took so long to get up.
The 10 and 369 made me laugh. Thanks for that…lately I’ve felt like I’m taking a trip to the dentist chair when I come on this thread.
Peace,
Brad
Not sure why but DB is a very divisive figure.
I think we all agree that you shouldn’t just blindly follow his training.
Question his methods at every turn.
Then apply them and see if it works.
I also believe you should seek out information from many other outlets.
I think DB would actually want it that way.
Chris Aus,
I’ve heard you are good at making training equipment
Maybe you could manufacture a EMS/TENS unit for cheap. Just make sure you test it out before you post the blueprints ![]()

TNT45 - Did you combined auto-reg with Westside?
Be very interesting to hear how you went about doing this, if that’s what you did.
Thanks for the props. The reason my dead and squat didn?t go up further is because my torn ACL. I?ve been taking it easy with lower body work, and because of my huge work load I?m only training 2 times per week. I combined Westside, EDT, DB?s AREG and CAD methods to come up with my personal plan, it works. But because of my injury and work my training is suffering.
Great job on your numbers, and just out of curiosity how do you structure your training, I assume you use neural-duration/magnitude blocks.
TNT45,
Good post. Congratulations on your results and hard work. I truely respect the NASA and their promotion of drug-free lifting. Have been to a few of their meets and the interaction is great.
I know this a little off the path of this thread but isn’t it about DB and should take notice of the results others are getting from his system.
Anyways good stuff nontheless.
Jeremy
Hey guys, I don’t want to make this a log, but I hope you don’t mind me posting my workouts for this first week or two so I can get some feedback.
Pull:
ISO Chin-ups (An-1)
ISO Throat Pulls (An-2)
ISO DB Curls (An-2)
IPM BB Rows (An-2)
Felt good today. I’m surprised at how much I was blasting myself in the gym. I felt refreshed when I left today. A couple of questions:
As you can see, my workouts are geared towards the Duration side. Would this be a good idea; Micro 1 - Dur., Micro 2 - Mag., repeat? Or would you push Mag and Dur in the same micro?
My question from above: Is there somewhere I can find a generic template for Speed-Strength, Limit Strength, Prep, etc.?

Program looks good
That would be when you would inclue more duration and limit strength work.
So I’d work through the speed-strength template until I hit those%'s then either
A) stay with it cuz strength-speed work at 94%AW will push up max strength. I like to call this point the Have your cake point because you are getting stronget and faster/more powerful simultaneously.
or
B)Use the Strength Template
However
Strengh
Day 1: Maximal Strength
Day 2: Strength Endurance
Methods:
Iso, Mio, Plio, IsoMio, OI, IPM, PIM
Power
Day 1 Strength-Speed
Day 2: Speed-Strength and Speed Endurance
Strength-Speed Methods:
PIM, FDA, REA, OSP, OSP-R
Speed-strength Methods:
PIM, ADA, RA, AMT, RFI
Speed Endurance:
RFI
As far as bodypart templates I kinda use this:
Lower
Squat Variation
AB Variation
Hamstring/Glute Variation
(optional)Squat Variation
Upper
Bench Variation
Row/Chin Variation
Delt Variation
(optional)Bench Variation
I favor 3 exercises/workout

mcham:
When we did N-Mag squats we alternated between free SQ’s and box SQ’s. The only other thing close to Westside was doing 3 and 2 board presses and 2" high and parallel box SQ’s closer to the meet. But we still used drop off percents on these days. Using gear necessitated these days so as to “get in the gear groove”. A raw lifter would go a different route.
squattin600,
Thanks for the info. What do you find is the easiest way to measure drop-off in OI, REA, RA, RFI, etc.? Obviously using the load method for ISO and PIM is easy. Those seem to be a little more complicated.
OI would go by the load method.
With the others I couple it with a Vertical Jump
Just use form and speed!
If you feel tired then stop - easy enough ![]()
