Davemccright's Dangerous Dave’s Diabolical Log for Density and Destruction

Forgot to post this big Arm day I got in with my dad before heading back home. Definitely going to rest today and maybe tomorrow as well. Got a lot of good training in while I was in Texas and really enjoyed that gym. Merry Christmas everybody!

It was an awesome throwback to my formative years of lifting with him in the garage where he showed me how to lift and track my progress in a notebook. Essential years under the learning tree. Lifting with him now is absolutely a super fun experience that I cherish every moment of.

This leg day was something else. I seriously feel as though I’m not the same person after my big squat set that I was before. The amount of mindset and intensity I had to muster up left me mentally and physically finished after. My 2nd squat set just wasn’t the same, but I summoned up the Fortitude to finish the rest of the session. Thankfully, I braced a lot better than last week so my lower back was in much better shape after the squat sets.

I was initially planning on just doing Stiff Legged Deadlifts instead of the sumo deadlifts that were written into the program. However, when the time arrived, I just mustered up the courage to do the sumo deadlift, even though I’ve never done one before. It really wasn’t too bad, although my glutes were really fried from the lunges already.

Thank you! I had been watching Tom Platz’s 525x23 squat in the days leading up to this session as well as videos of other dudes attempting it. I think it helped me rethink my approach; get the reps in as quickly as possible without as much time breathing and thinking between reps, just focusing on getting those reps in while you can. The right song helps a lot too. I also had to basically try to forget the large volume of work I had to do after this

I like this strategy but only up to a point. I usually find this works for like 5 or 6 reps but then I need to suck in heaps of air and that pause can throw me off for the rest. I try to keep a even rhythm on higher rep sets, so squat, breath, brace squat …repeat.

Whatever works though and really what ever trashes your muscles the most. LOL

I can usually get the first 3 reps continuously, then I think in my head “okay now I just need to do 2x2 and single and I’m at 10” then it ends up being one double and then the rest of the way being single with breaths in between. Really just mind games and sometimes it’s tough to regain focus if the last rep was kind of a grind because my weight came forward or just slightly misgrooved my technique. That happened on rep 9 and just really tried to dial everything in for that final rep

Yer funny what goes on in your head, when your body and brain is trying to say WTF and you are trying to say, 2 more reps. We are all just a bit crazy.

Really hardcore chest and shoulder session today. Flat Dumbbell Press really took me to my limit, especially with the drop sets. I had never pressed the 130s for double digits before today and I got it for 2 sets, so real progress is being made. I didn’t have a ton of energy in the tank for flat Barbell Press after all that and honestly, I don’t think I’ve fully mentally recovered from that big squat set last night. That took a piece out of me. It’ll probably take me a few days to feel back to “normal”.

It was fun pushing the pump exercises to failure after the heavy work. John programs so well. He knows to use lower fatiguing exercises after he absolutely blasts you with some really tough compounds. This style of training is just really really resonating with me right now.

How are you liking rolling into the higher intensity after the high volume/ frequency of 28 Days Later?

The higher intensity offers a very much needed change of pace. I was somewhat burned out by the end of 28 Days Later but I also enjoyed getting accustomed to going into the gym and busting my ass on a daily basis. This program really makes me appreciate rest days though. I find that during this session I’ve really been pushing crazy hard into sets like I probably never even have before, especially with the many intensity techniques that John employs. I think mentally it’s more fun to work up to a top set where you give absolutely everything you have, even though I think mentally I hadn’t recovered from that squat set until today.

Last session in OK before I head to Canada tomorrow. Got a crazy pump and just trying to enjoy the lift with my brother. I had a ton of carbs last night and it paid off today because my muscles were super full! Happy New Year everybody!

First day back in the garage and really hit a nasty leg day, just about 30 hours removed from a 16 hour drive. I was afraid I’d be down, but I feel like I didn’t miss a beat! I overestimated my 5s set today and only ended up getting 3, so I did 20 on the 15s set. Gotta get even!

Did somersault squats instead of Leg Press and I dare say that it was way more punishing. Barely have enough power left in my legs to go up the stairs!
