Dave Hoff Raw Total

I like the diving analogy. It’s pretty perfect. Both are called diving. They use different equipment. If you don’t participate in diving, you (or maybe I’m just speaking for myself but I doubt it) couldn’t contextualize any particular feat. If someone told me, “I just did a triple backflip with a twist and a half” or something to that effect, the height of the board (the equipment used) wouldn’t be any of my concern.

I would just say, “wow, you’re good at diving I think.” But a diver would contextualize it by asking what height the platform/board/whatever they jump off of was, and maybe for one height that’s impressive and another height it’s not or something.

Good stuff.

hey, lets all go troll the STRONGMAN section saying that their 18" deadlifts suck cause they are high and that
“tacky” stuff is cheating because real men pick up 300# rocks RAWWWWER!!! lol
Yeah to hell with those guys and their picking up 1150 lb weights. He used straps, so he obviously isn’t at all strong.

But the original state of powerlifting was raw.
yes and no… There have always been guys doing whatever it took to total higher. Guys back then wrapped their knees in ace bandages and wore super small reinforced levis that acted like a squat suit of sorts. This notion of old school “purity” is a false notion if one really looks back.

I disagree. Odd lifts was definitely raw, and the original point was always just to see who the strongest man was at each event and overall. Powerlifting simply evolved out of that. Even the wraps and whatever came later.

Not to mention the whole gear as support or gear as carryover argument…

This thread shows again that the sport of PLing (or PLing forums to be more precise) mainly attracts mental giants.

I am not so sure that the more intellectual forums have any more luck either unfortunately.

I am sure that somewhere there is some guy trolling the hell out of a Mensa International forum.

Noots are cheating, true intelligence can only be measured in the morning, before coffee.

What if I am just very intellectual, and not all that intelligent? Can that be measured? Does that make me inferior?

Ha, no doubt about that. Mensa= top 2% in any one of a number of tests = not necessarily that smart. Hell, i joined a few years back for the car insurance discount, and I am a moron.

Not sure i could pull off a troll nob in those forums though haha.

Also, saw Trivium live a couple weeks ago, solid show.

So you’re in mensa AND you love metal? That’s awesome. You are in an even smaller percentage of the population now.

What did you think of their new material?

Actually… a fun little fact is that people who like metal tend to be brighter than average. Especially in abstract reasoning.
