Seems as good as any location to met a prospective partner. At least you both start with something in common. (In most cases)

I think it is better place to look if you are a woman. You run the risk of being the gym creep if you get too aggressive.

I guess if I was going to be more than friendly with the women at the gym, I’d be sure that they were into me before taking any sort of steps indicating romantic interest. A common issue it seems is that the creeps aren’t great at gauging interest in these women, so they just keep bothering uninterested women.

I never approached a woman in the gym, but I did run into a woman, who worked out at my gym, in a bar. And approached her in a friendly manner. That turned out very well.

I will say that I was never “approachable” by people who didn’t already know me. I probably looked like I resented them taking up my oxygen.

Depends how willing you are to deal with the fallout of a break-up with someone who goes to the same gym as you.

If she cray cray, you might get a plate thrown at you :man_shrugging:

I’ve heard a lot of people use the whole “don’t poop where you eat” analogy when it comes to dating within your gym. Could create some awkward situations after a break-up or a bad date. Or if you’re a gym player just trying to bang every woman there.

But I also know a lot of people who’ve met their future spouse at the gym, so the rule of “don’t date people at your gym” seems a bit strict.

Also, the proximity effect comes into play here. Pretty natural to meet potential mates at the gym if you’re there several hours per week.

Confession: I used to train twice per day – lifting the AM, metcon in the PM – to increase the odds. Met my wife at a Starbucks, so that didn’t work.

I’ve lost two gym buddies due to fallout.

Doesn’t bother me, but there’s clear awkwardness that would be nice not to have

It was my girlfriend at the time who had the membership I was a guest on, so :man_shrugging:t2:.

Otherwise, I think @Chris_Shugart has a fair point with proximity. If you’re there with any regularity you’re almost bound to vibe with someone, and nature will take its course.
