Bummer. You have the right attitude though. You’ll be back in no time.

You have no idea how tempting it is to just throw up some weights right now. But that would do me no good, and would take me out of the game longer. Given how screwed up my back is, throwing it out is just a question of “when.”
Unrelated training thing (kinda)… I’ve said before one of my reasons for training is so I actually look like the guy who should be singing for my band.
We just completed the first song for our demo, and posted on our myspace: Dead By 27 - R.I.P. | Listen and Stream Free Music, Albums, New Releases, Photos, Videos if any of you are interested.
The song is called “Still Alive” and we wrote it for a movie (that is still in early pre-production). If the movie goes into production, then this song will see a national release in theaters. ![]()
Anyhoo. I’m going to get some sleep. Rock on!
There is something wrong with MySpace - it says I can’t download the song. Good song. Seriously, unlock it already.
Lead singer is off tune (I kid), guitar is hard/rough/awesome. Great sound quality.
Any more songs?

I thought I had it unlocked for download. I’ll check it out.
We’re working on the rest of the demo (about 3 more songs, at least). In total we have about 14 songs, with about 4 more in the works. It’s slow going, coz we’re broke, and have to tussle with an 8 track, but it’ll do for a demo. ![]()
If you want to hear more, go to Everything In Between | Listen and Stream Free Music, Albums, New Releases, Photos, Videos … that’s the old project I was in (with some of the same guys), and there are still some tracks posted there.

I think it is unlocked … I just don’t have a MySpace account. I might be the last human that does not have MySpace or Facebook.
PM me your e-mail address, and I’ll send you the MP3. ![]()
I’m off to Augusta to submit the song for Maine’s biggest Battle of the Bands. Here’s hoping.
I’ve decided that I’m going to start the Couch to 5k program on Tuesday. It will replace my cardio session. I really want to get back into running - it’s something that I really enjoyed back in the day, and I think it will be quite a challenge to get myself back to where I was.
For the record, my best was a 20 minute 3 mile, while I was in the Marine Corps.
Forgot to weigh myself this morning. But I’m going to bet it isn’t pretty. I’ve tried to keep my intake down, seeing as how I’ve been unable to lift this week.
Man, I can’t wait for Monday. I almost went to the gym today, coz my back is feeling good, but I didn’t want to press my luck. No sense in busting my back more seriously.
Weigh-in yesterday was 196. Amazing, considering I wasnt able to train at all last week. I was worried my weight would be higher, but I actually lost a pound. heh
My wife started her workout this morning, so last night we took measurements. I’m confused on a couple of mine, but it might just be because I wasn’t measured in the exact same place…
(in inches)
Measurement / Taken 5/22 / Taken 6/1 / Change
NECK: 16" / 15.5" / -0.5"
CHEST: 41" / 40" / -1"
ARM: 14" / 13.75" / -0.25"
BELLY: 39" / 38" / -1"
WAIST: 38" / 38.5" / +.5"
THIGH: 24.5" / 23" / -1.5"
CALF: 16" / 16" / 0
Okay, I think the biggest differenct was I was “cold” and not pumped. Which explains the loss on my arms nicely. My waist was probably measured in a slightly different spot, so I’m not worried there.
I am perplexed about my thigh measurement. While it might not have been exactly the same spot, I can’t fathom having lost 3.5" in just a couple weeks, and I don’t think the differenct between “cold” and “pumped” is THAT great.
All in all, I’m satisfied. We’ll see how happy I should be, though, when I go for body fat testing on Friday. ![]()
Man, I can’t wait to get back to the gym today.
EDIT: fixed thigh measurement.
I think you need to check your math - according to what you posted, there was a 3.5" GAIN in size. You did the measuring correctly. An honest measurement does not have the muscle “pumped”. Overall, nice job.

Thanks for pointing that out. I went back and checked, and I flipped the measurements. My measurement from 5/22 was 24.5", my measurement from last night was 21" … I’m still thinking that the place of measurement was off, in addition to the difference between cold and pumped.
Still, slight inconsistancies aside, there is a general trend that I am getting smaller, which should equate to continued fat loss. Just goes to show that almost none of my size was due to muscle mass, lol.
Haha. I figured out part of it. There is approx. an inch difference between my thighs, and I took the last measurement on my left thigh (this was right).
So, disparity not as bad as I thought, but still weird. Oh, well. I’m not going to sweat it. ![]()
WEEK 10: 6-2-2008
LIFTS:
BACK SQUAT:
(warmup) 135x5, 155x3, 225x1
(working) 215x5, 215x5, 215x2
→ Wow. I hit a supreme failure going for that 3rd rep. Usually I can tell if I’m going to fail, but I really thought I had it.
MILPRESS:
(warmup) 45x5, 55x3, 65x1
(working) 80x5 80x5 80x5
→ I got it! Onto 85 next time.
BB ROW:
(warmup) 95x5, 100x3, 105x1
(working) 125x5, 125x5, 125x4
→ The DBs were in heavy use, so I did BB row instead. I like it more, although I think I need to check my form. Not sure if I was doing it 100% correctly.
DIPS:
BWx8, BWx5
→ A small improvement. In a week or two, I’ll be added weight!
INCLINE SITUPS:
BW+45 3x5
HYPEREXTENSIONS:
BW+45 3x5
→ These are getting tough. It’s already a pain to hold on to the 45 plate. It’s gonna suck adding more plates, just trying to hold 'em.
My session got a slightly late start. There was some guy doing curlz in the squat rack (GAAAAH). And he was doing it with atrocious form. All swing of his arms and kipping of his back. It made me hurt just watching him.
It was also a first… gloves AND chalk. Isn’t it usually either or?
Okay, I feel better now. I re-measured my thigh, and got 23" … The measurement taken Sunday night was done wrong, and not on the thickest part. So, I lost 1.5" on my thigh.
Still in the realm of the newbie - I seem to be losing fat and solidifying muscle. I wonder how much longer it will last, lol.
My wife joined the nation yesterday! After a couple months of trying to get her to check this place out, she’s finally doing it! Her user name is Fyrbug.
She just started the workout in “New Rule of Lifting for Women” and is enjoying it. I’m so proud of her. ![]()
I guess I have to watch what I say in my post now, huh? lol
Uh, yeah. You go better go back and do some quick editing.
lol. I doubt anything I’ve written will get me in trouble.
So, I went out last night after band practice, and ran into some people I kinda know (because of my band). A couple of them looked at me and asked if I had been lifting! It was cool.
WEEK 10: 6-4-2008
LIFTS:
BACK SQUAT:
(warm-up) 135x5, 155x3, 225x1
(working) 215x5, 215x5, 215x4
→ So close. Eating more is definitely helping, I think. I was hoping to be able to move on to 220 for Friday, but I guess I’ll have to wait until next week. Oh well.
BENCH:
(warm-up) 65x5, 85x3, 95x1
(working) 125x5, 125x5, 125x5
→ First day at 125 and I kicked its ass!
DEADLIFT:
(warm-up) 155x5, 185x3, 205x1
(working) 275x5
For shits: 300x1 !!!
→ I don’t know what got into me, but I wanted to see if I could do 1 rep at 300 - and I fucking did it!!! W00T!!
CHINS:
BWx2, BWx2
→ got one extra chin on the second set. Progress is progress.
I skipped my inclines and hypers today, as I ran out of time. The gym was packed so I had to wait for equipment more than usual, and unfortunately I had to get back to work. Oh, well… with the 300 on my DL, I don’t feel so bad!!
I’m getting my body fat tested tomorrow, so we’ll see if there’s been any change. I hope so, seeing as I’ve lost inches everywhere.
