Darth Vader Original Voice

title says it all.

That would have literally ruined the entire movie. Are there any white actors with deep enough voices for that kind of role?

Id say Christopher Lee has a pretty deep voice for a white dude, but still probably not as deep as James Earl. Maybe its why they only gave him the role of ct. dooku (ie. crappy runner-up prize lawl)

Wow…Vader sucked before he went black…and didn’t go back.

Haha.

David Prouse, he was also the Green Cross Code Man.

I met him when I was a kid and was gutted that he was in the Green Cross Code costume not the Darth Vadar one.

I think the plan was always to dub a voice over the top.

The plan was always to dub over it. I mean listen to it. Its not even mic’d in there. All muffled and what not. But here is a little trivia regarding that for you all. Lucas never told David Prowse that he wasn’t going to use his voice. He let him think he was using his voice all through filming because he thought he’d get a better performance that way.

Obviously David knew what was up for the sequel but having one voice for filming and one for the final product has its advantages… to protect the big bad “father” secret… all the scripts read “Luke… Obi-wan is your father”. That is what David read and that is what the entire cast thought was the truth. All the actors found out the true cliffhanger when they saw the film… AT THE PREMIER!

Yeah, he’ll never go back

If this is true then why was Luke so distraut when he found out who his real father was? He was all like “Nooooo sob sob that can’t be cough cough I’m a bitch cough cough” I think if the actor/character thought that his father was really his mentor he would’ve reacted very differently than fiding out that actually his nemesis was his father

Lucas pulled Mark Hamill aside right before they shot the scene and told him what the real dialogue was going to be. I don’t know how well Lucas was able to keep other people away from the final soundtrack. Usually, there is a small crew manning the vocal recording booth when James Earl Jones does his performance. Also, there is usually a sound editor involved in making the final dialogue mix on tape. Perhaps Lucas tried to do that one scene all by himself, but I doubt it.

This isn’t that strange today. Many scripts are hidden if there is a huge twist in the plot. I think they did the same with the Sixth Sense. All of the actors may not have known what the deal was…or sometimes they hand out 5 different versions of the script and have the actors act out all different scenarios and no one knows which is going to be in the final edit until the movie gets seen by the actors with everyone else (which is likely what happened here).

They were talking about this in the Zombieland commentary. The actors had NO IDEA how many of those scenes were going to look until they saw them with everyone else because they often had them act out different reactions to the same plot device.

You guys have to remember that this was done in the late 70’s.

I don’t know, as much whining as Hayden did in the Prequels, there’s still no comparison to Luke’s bitch-ass in the original. There’s drinking games based on it FFS!

It’s all about character development. How becoming a Jedi turns a little bitch into a bad ass by the time Empire comes along and into the calmest person in the galaxy by Return of the Jedi

Truth.

I mean, look at Darth Vader-- one of THE most recognized faces of evil in the Universe. They called him “Annie” for christsakes.

Anakin never came off like a bad ass even in the third he betrayed everyone cause he had a dream? Really a fucking dream? I guess it makes sense because Jedi’s aren’t allowed any pooty tang.

The prequels sucked. so much promise.
