Dani's Rebel Log

Call me simple but my favorite 80’s movies are the “Police Academy” and “Airplane” (mainly the first one. Second one was ok) series

My log isn’t super serious since I’m not trying to PR in anything or prep for a competition, so yes, let’s chat urinals and anything else ya’ll have in mind!

The Breakfast Club was on our list and we (re)watched it! Still holds up after all these years. We were invited to a movie-themed party and had our costumes picked out as two of these characters:

But then I got sick or something and we ended up not going.

I’ve never seen St. Elmo’s Fire, but love the song and it’s now stuck in my head. Adding the movie to our new list!

Samsies.

I’ve never heard of the first (adding it to list) and never got the chance to see Man in the Iron Mask (added)! Princess Bride = CLASSIC.

Hi Simple! Ok ok sorry. Those are fantastic choices. We’ve gotta put them on the list.

Do you remember a similar parody-style movie with Val Kilmer in it? It was called Top Secret and I feel like it didn’t get the attention it deserved either.

Always a good choice.

It’s definitely one of those cult classic movies.
Along with Big Trouble in Little China, Escape from New York, The Golden Child, too many to mention. 1980s dums as shit, but entertaining.
Also recommend Last of the Dogmen (1995)

Ha! That’s exactly what Chris has said about 80s movies. I think he’d agree with your recommendations too. LOL

Watched Escape from New York for the first time since I was 10 years old while Dani was away on a trip. Movie came out in 1981 but was set in the future of 1997.

While the movie didn’t quite stand up based on today’s standards, the concept was and is fascinating. I love seeing “the future” as interpreted by the past. Just finished reading a bunch of 80’s cyberpunk sci-fi novels set in the lawless world of the early 2000s.

Big Trouble in Little China: Yeah, time to watch that again, for sure!

Watching these 80’s movies will probably help Dani further understand how my personality developed.

There will never be another Snake Plissken… lol

If you are into sci-fi, have you read The Extinction series by Nicholas Sandsbury Smith?

Gotta say, I was born in 2003 so it’s surprising I’ve seen those!

Maybe to turn it back to a somewhat useful conversation, when I was competing (never in physique sports, though), I actually did a lot worse trying to be serious about it all the time. The stress took care of itself, with practice, team environment, matches, etc., so I was way better off just being me and not worry about it the rest of the time. I wrestled like crap when I got into the headspace I thought was expected. Some folks can handle it, it just wasn’t for me.

I haven’t. Oh wow… a nine-book series! I think my record is ten, the decology of Mission Earth by L. Ron Hubbard. And no, I’m not a Scientologist.

This is so relatable and not just in fitness. Taking things too seriously is a performance-wrecker.
