Dani's Rebel Log

My doc told me to take iron. But Geritol sucks and most iron tablets do not have enough mg to meet his suggestion. Of course I forget what that was. Same with potassium.

Lower Body

Booty Builder (that’s the actual name of the machine): 4 x failure

Barbell RDL: 5 x 5

Leg Press: 5 x 10, 8, 5, 5, 5

Lying Ham Curl: 4 x various reps based on load

Other Stuff

An update to a previous conversation in this log:

Yep, wore them yesterday, but I’ll continue to wear whatever gets my husband to compliment my butt. Hot take: The most flattering pants for women with narrow hips and athletic legs are flared.

This kinda blew my mind. Could it be true?

Is it the sit down/stand-up one? There’s like 4 machines in that “Booty” area and I think they’re all called “Booty Builder”. lol

No, but I want that! This one is a hip thrust machine but with a seat belt type thing that goes over your lap (where a barbell would go). And you adjust the load the same way you do with standard cable machines. I love it, even though it can take a bit of time to feel it just right.

Here’s a pic:

Sounds like you’d both love the gym I go to. Has all these glute machines and more……now actually thinking about it the gym owner could potentially have an agenda

Seems like a business-savvy move given the body type lifters are after now. I’d love to try all of them!

Actually, a gym with a gazillion shoulder options would probably be more up my alley.

Ironically our gym is probably lacking in the shoulder options, which is disappointing for me.
And you’re right, I literally saw a pt take her client on 6 different glute machines in a row today. Couldn’t help but sit there thinking the poor lass could have saved some money

Good stuff. Very realistic. I train, don’t like to call it exercise. I track my weights and reps and times but will alter it if necessary instinctively. I use a Casio watch I can set for intervals etc and use it for various movements. Like others, my shoulders were shot decades ago. My Covid inspired home gym is well enough equipped to give me what I want training wise and in fact was a good thing for me. It changed my workout philosophy in a big way.

Ugh, same. It’s not bad if your shoulders are healthy enough to do all the overhead press variations, but if you’ve got some joint irritation, your options are a bit limited.

That actually reminds me of an article from Dr. Merrick Lincoln (coolest name ever) who did a video on 9 unconventional lateral raise variations.

That’s a great way to do it. I love how a timer automatically increases focus during workouts. Sometimes I’ll go without it if I’m having to be cautious or kinda play it by ear, but on days when I’m feeling spacey (most days), it prevents my mind from wandering away.

Intervals are a blast. Sounds like your workouts are fun and challenging.

We have that one too - I cannot get it to feel good. I’m probably too short. lol

Oh no! Then I wouldn’t mess with it. There are better options, and a bad hip thrust can wreck the low back.

I can hip thrust 700+ pounds on the machine we have at the gym, which is similar but uses plates. Not sure if I could use it if they called it the “Booty Builder”…

The plate-loaded machines feel really good. Our last gym had one and it was a favorite for a lot of people.

They do feel good, and allow so much weight that I am sure they don’t isolate much. But that’s fine with me. Very tall and short folks complain the machine is uncomfortable, but to me discomfort is using just the barbell with significant poundage. It beats the Smith machine too.

I use the “not in the Booty area” plate-loaded hip thrust machine, that one feels good! My low back is already wrecked, so I definitely don’t try to make anything slightly uncomfortable work. #livedandlearned

Upper Workout

Seated Cable Row
Band lat activation thing

Low Incline DB Bench

Cable Straight Arm Pulldown
Tricep Pulldown
Cable Curl

Super light lateral raises

Not the greatest workout but I got a pretty good mind muscle connection on just about everything. Still working around that angry shoulder.

Any tips for an exhausted brain?

Our elderly dog has this fun habit of standing next to the bed in the middle of the night and whining even though she’s already allowed to jump up in with us. But you have to invite her up in a very specific way, which you will not know until she actually does get in your bed, and then she will demand that you actively pet her by either pawing at you or continuing to whine… so she forces you to be awake because in her fuzzy brain, your sleep is unimportant since she is well rested at 2 am because she spends 20 hours a day slumbering on a couch.

I have a couple of cats that do night patrol throughout the house, usually around 3:00 am. They protect us from all things, seen and unseen.

So no. Sorry. I don’t have any tips on this.
