Dani's Rebel Log

Its very interesting. Ours shows 99.7% Scandinavian, .3% northern european. Two of my brothers took this info and did the genealogical dietary recommendations for their type of DNA, and both have lost 30 some lbs. and feel better than they have in a really long time. I’ve always been one for meat & fish with small amounts of simple grains, so not much difference for me.

My wife wants to do it for herself & my son too, to see what all is in there. She definitely has at least half Cherokee, but it would be cool to see what else shakes out.

I think overall it can be a cool and useful tool. (Social observation incoming!) People just seem so bereft of any kind of identity, and they are absolutely desperate for one. What not be what you actually are??? Lots of countries have some really amazing and interesting history & culture. No need to be a square peg trying to fit into a round hole.

My one brother works at CMU and they’re big on the Scottish heritage cuz of Andrew Carnegie, so he went full on with it. Got a full formal kilt and researched our clan, goes to the Highland games over in the Laurel Highlands and all of that.

So I can see it having some good social and scientific (medical) value.

Those are all really great reasons to do it. The dietary aspect is fascinating as well.

It’s unbelievable how some people thrive on opposing diets. But then again, I doubt anyone does well on the high sugar-fat-junk food diet. So maybe having a genealogical reason to stick to certain healthful foods gives people the impetus to improve their eating. I’m all for that.

I have met a handful of people who do really well on vegetarian diets, which is the polar opposite of what works best for me, so maybe it really is a hereditary thing.

Me too. No one has to twist my arm to get me to eat more salmon or reindeer!

Monday Workout

There’s a gal in the gym around my age who just had her sixth kid. She’s a fireplug of a lifter: super muscular, on the shorter side, but with a female superhero build. Anywhoodle, I like to cheer her on because she’s amazing.

So today she said that my RDLs were beautiful and that I could definitely go heavier. My day was made.

RDL: 5 x 8-10

Slow eccentric, explosive concentric. I am definitely putting the tension in the glutes with these, but even so, they never have the same visible muscular affect that hip thrusts do.

Arnold Press: 4 x 10, drop in weight, 10 more reps

Superset
Bentover Rear Delt Raise: 3 x failure (super light)
Seated Cable Row: 3 x 8 (heavy-ish)

This may seem like a weird combo, but it actually pre-fatigues the rear delts and then gets them to kick in during the rows. I like my rows to hit mid back AND rear delts. This does the trick.

One tip I’d like to offer is, when doing the bentover rear delt raises, eliminate the bottom portion of the rep where you lose tension. Just do the mid-range and whatever you feel comfortable doing in the top portion. It has a bit of an occlusion effect because you’re pumping a lot of blood into the muscles (rear and medial delt heads) without giving them a break.

EZ-Bar Curls: 3 x 15
Full ROM with a very controlled eccentric and a big stretch at the bottom. Felt great.

Other Stuff

I will probably only wear this once every four years, so it’s going on the internet.

"She had the sightless eyes, telling me no lies
Knocking me out with those American thighs"

That song is pure filth, but I do enjoy having American thighs. :hugs:

Well that’s different! :joy:

Thats the Lapplanders! Ancient tribal reindeer herders.

I think our North American white tails are a good substitute though.

Edit: And I’m heading to the rally at PPG arena in about an hour, so You rock that flag! I’m pretty low key about my clothing & what not, but my wife is really enthusiastic.

My family is about as Han Chinese as one can get in terms of genetics, and I definitely perform better with carbs, but I hate rice and much prefer fats and protein. Northern European cuisine is the ideal. Japanese is also great (minus the carb dishes) but they don’t eat enough yoghurt there

My mum, dad and little bro can’t live without rice though

Definitely relatable. It tends to produce a better pump too. :raised_hands:

Oh that’s pretty cool that you’ve discovered what works best for you.

This meme is hardly related, but I couldn’t let it go to waste!

Sounds delicious.

5 Happy Distractions!

  1. The beautiful Tulsi Gabbard singing with her husband:

She is one of my favorite people: tough, fit, feminine, smart, and courageous.

  1. Carla Rockmore is the ultimate fashion influencer. I cannot afford her fashion, but I adore her comedic story telling.
  1. Roxy is keeping warm in her neon pink hoodie. Truthfully, this shade of pink isn’t in her color season. She looks amazing in red, which makes her a true winter.

  1. This super-mom blows my mind!

  1. I don’t participate in the book recommendation thread on our site, but here are some of my favorites this year. I’m only including the ones written by females since someone got offended over the abundance of female authors in that thread, and then proceeded to disparage the gracious contributions of other T Nation community members.

Jennifer Hillier – Little Secrets
Ruth Ware – One Perfect Couple
Alice Feeney – Rock Paper Scissors
Amy Tintera – Listen for The Lie
Heather Gudenkauf – Not a Sound
B.A. Paris – The Guest
Ashley Elston – First Lie Wins
Noelle W. Ihli – Ask for Andrea
Mary Kubica – Local Woman Missing
Meg Shaffer – The Wishing Game
Liv Constantine – The Last Mrs. Parrish and The Next Mrs. Parrish

If this list makes you outraged, then you probably need to eat a Snickers. And I say that as someone who adamantly opposes junk food.

Thank you for coming to my happy distraction list!
