Dani's Rebel Log

Thank you so much for the encouragement! It feels good to finally see some strength results. :raised_hands:

Our group could be like the treadmill that’s become a clothing rack.

Chris and I were talking about this yesterday. We’ve had friends over the years who liked the idea of working out, but never really got started despite buying the treadmill and signing up for the gym membership. (I’m actually guilty of that right now in regards to the walking pad in my jungle closet.) :grimacing::rofl:

So we’re not sure if that’s what our group will be like.

A total of 47 people signed up with us, but only 5 have RSVP’d, which is absolutely fine with us. The fewer the participants, the more opportunities we’ll have to take great pictures, get to know people, and explore. The larger the group, the more challenging it’ll be to talk to everyone.

We have no idea what to expect, but we’re prepared to improvise (kind of an oxymoron there), no matter the turnout. In addition, we made the first “hike” ridiculously easy, so it’s possible our stroll through nature won’t be hardcore enough for some.

But it sure is pretty. Look at how cool this place is!

Having people you dont really want to come to your event cancel on you or not show is almost as good as cancelling plans yourself

HA! That’s relatable.

The thing about this particular group is that they’re energizing. I don’t know if it’s our church’s leadership, and pastor in particular, but you get the impression that everyone is genuinely rooting for everyone else. I adore these people.

So… they better come!

Today’s full body workout turned into a mini upper body session. My glutes and hams have gotten plenty of stimulation this week.

Upper Body (Minus Back)

Main lift: Seated Chest Press (worked up to 180 for 5 reps)

Pump work: DB lateral raise, EZ bar curl, tricep pulldown, abs

The muscle-guarding between my scaps has been rearing its head for a while now. So when that happens, I just skip back. And somehow, even when training chest and shoulders, I still get tension in the mid back. It’s weird, but makes sense. To do anything heavy with your chest and shoulders, you stabilize with your back.

Adventures of Eating Stuff in Front of a Camera

Chris perfected a vanilla ice cream. It checks all the texture and flavor boxes. So now, anyone can take the calories and macros of our vanilla and compare it to other brands.

In the video though, we show mix-in options, like chocolate chips and nuts, and I went with a no-sugar added granola, which actually packs a big enough punch that you don’t even need a quarter cup.

Post workout ice cream. I ate the whole pint.

• Calories 425
• Protein 67g
• Carbs 25g
• Fat 7g

Oh wait, this doesn’t include the mix-in, so cals, carbs, and fat were actually a bit more than what’s listed here. I don’t care. You can’t make me. GIMMIE.

Other Things

The new total amount of people in our hiking group (on the church app) is 52. There are a handful of others who signed up on paper. So, we could have 50-60 show up, or we could have 5-6 show up. The anticipation is killing me! (In a fun way.)

Other Other Things

Are you familiar with Carter Vail and his We’re Guys song on YouTube? I discovered it a month ago and revisit it all the time because it’s the catchiest, funniest thing ever.

And now I just sing it while putzing around the house. It’s complete nonsense and yet somehow better than most modern music. And apparently other people agree because there are a ton of remakes all over the internet.

And here’s some good insight, in case you might need it:

And also this:

Sucks to be me. :joy:

I think about this a lot.

You know what’s funny is that I had a different person in mind but when I saw he had one too I upgraded to him haha

That is catchy, and right up my alley.

I like to change 1 word in a song to see what it does to the meaning of it. Like Free Bird becomes Cheese Curd.

Whole new song!

Oh that’s fun!

When I worked in radio we did that with a couple country music songs. Shameless became shavin’ and the passion with which he sang about hair removal always cracked me up.

Anyone else getting messed up by the long summer days?

It’s so bright in the evening and Chris is out of town so I keep starting movies not realizing how late it is which is not late for most people around 10 pm but super late for me because then my body wakes up at the same time as usual 3 or 4-ish so I’m missing out on sleep because apparently I need to be told when to go to bed given my weird circadian rhythm and those movies weren’t even worth it.

Sleepy brains are prone to run-on sentences. Is 1 pm too late for a cold coffee?

Friday Night Hikes

A bunch of people actually did show up! We had 30 total and it went well despite me getting us lost once. Oops. We have three more group hikes planned this summer, but it’s so nice to have that first one under our belts. The uncertainty was the toughest part.

I need to keep this in mind next time.

I like going to the gym in the evenings. It’s slightly weird for it to still be warm and bright when I’m done. But at least I don’t live in Norway or Alaska.

Seems a good group for hiking. If getting lost, my suggestion is to leave a trail of breadcrumbs. At worst, you may stumble upon a house in the woods made of marzipan and gingerbread.

I can imagine it being kinda nice to have that extra light after a workout. Maybe summer is a good time to save workouts till the end of the day.

Very true.

Thanks!! HAHAHA great advice.

It’s the mornings for me. I don’t set an alarm clock, but when sunlight and bird noises happen, I pop up and do the morning routine.

Then I realize it’s 4:30 am.

It beats channeling your inner Captain Sobel or climbing Currahee (in the unlikely event you are a fan of “Band of Brothers”).

However, I would not recommend leaving a trail of breadcrumbs if any of your hiking companions wear shawls and superficially seem like pleasant elders, but upon closer reflection also have snouts, atypical dentition or unusual facial pigmentation.

Strangely, in 21,000 flying hours over a 46 year career as a pilot, I was never once lost… someone once told me that “Being lost is all in your head… If you knew where you were 5 minutes ago, how could you possibly be lost?”

Made sense to me.

On one hand, a pilot has a lot of locating equipment. But on the other hand, in some places it is challenging to leave a trail of breadcrumbs.

When I go hiking/backpacking, I make sure to turn around and look at the scenery every few minutes, so when I’m coming back it looks familiar.

Thats a really good turnout!
