I wasn’t motivated to lift this morning and it has to have something to do with yesterday’s shooting class. It was so intense, and I learned more in one session than I probably have in a year.

So why would it affect the next day’s workout? Not sure. It’s mentally taxing and physically complicated, but you’re not pushing a boulder up a hill or running a million miles.

Maybe it’s all about the grip. :thinking:

That’s the one area where you’re placing a lot of tension. The tighter your grip, the less recoil you’ll have to manage.

And now that I’m thinking about it, when it comes to deadlifting, coaches say that you end up with CNS fatigue mainly because of the demands placed on your grip to pull a heavy barbell off the floor.

So in that way, competitive shooting with repeated “reps and sets” is a lot like deadlifting. And it’s no wonder my forearms feel pretty tight and achy right now.

So today was a good day for exercises that didn’t require a super tight grip… or any grip at all.

Today’s Workout

Arnold Press
Seated chest press machine
Rear delt cable flye
Booty Machine
Walking lunge

Kept the weight moderate/light.

You’re so lucky! I’ve always had the theory that people can adapt their preferences through repeated exposure. Familiarity somehow makes certain foods go from gross to tolerable to okay to pleasant… and possibly even preferred.

But I just couldn’t get there with liver. :smiling_face_with_tear:

I can confirm this. I hated olives, but James bond drinks martinis - since he is a badass, and I wanted to be a badass, I started eating a couple a day until I liked them. It only took about a month.

Then I went to a Paris Hilton nightclub, got the worst martini you could imagine, and went home alone. The James Bond ploy did not work.

But your theory is right.

That’s probably the best example of a food people have hated at one point in their youth. Great story!

My parents are shite at cooking, but extended family definitely know their way around the kitchen.

In the modern age, I think having parents that are bad cooks but extended family that are good cooks is an advantage.

If parents or siblings are bad cooks, there’s incentive to learn. If extended family is good, there’s inspiration for how good food can be

It’s really funny when my friends say “I can’t wait to go home, I finally don’t have to cook for myself”. When I go home, I’m the one who cooks

Props to you for taking the initiative to learn! A lot of people would use it as an excuse to just never cook if their parents weren’t great at it.

Chris fell in love with making food even though it wasn’t really a thing in his family growing up.

Before my wife and I got together she was worried - “What if my future husband wants me to cook? Shit.”

Then we got together and she was like “Whew, problem solved.”

And now she lives full-time in the equivalent of a BnB.
