Has anyone read any of the GRI reports on dangerous artificial sweeteners to avoid? Better yet, does anyone know which artificial sweeteners are deemed not harmful to humans according to the GRI. Also, their is a book the GRI provides that includes some information on the dangers of high protein diets. I imagine this migh have something to do with diabetes. Anyone?
Bascally I’ve heard the only “proven” safe artificial sweetener is stevia.
I haven’t read it (they want you to pay.)
Perhaps an interesting thing for someone
to do would be to read their report on
the “dangers of high protein diets.” This
might shed some light on the possible
intelligence and accuracy of their reports
on sweeteners. (If someone writes idiocy
in one report, other reports of theirs should
be suspect as well.)
I keep hearing that aspartame is carcinogenic because it has benzene in it.
Aspartame doesn’t have benzene in it.
Having a benzene ring by no means
makes a substance carcinogenic. All sorts
of nutrients do, for example.
According to some info. posted at www.mercola.com the FDA receives more negative reports for aspartame than all other substances combined. Truthfully I’ve yet to hear of a 100% safe sweetener…even stevia has been rumored to decrease ejaculate volume in males following high dosages.
From my experience it is nearly impossible to consume a High amount of stevia. I use it to sweeten my oatmeal and applesauce and the stuff is so strong (I think 1000 times sweeter than sugar) I only have to put like 1/16 of a teaspoon on it.
I’ve heard a lot about sucralose (sp?) recently. Apparently there’s about a 20 year history with this stuff, with NO reported adverse effects. Can be used just like regular sugar, but is fairly expensive. Might be worth looking into.
The problem I see with all of these articles is that the quantities that they use are completely ridiculous… 100’s of gms a day, when somebody even drinking 10 diet cokes a day wont consume that amount. Of course the lab rats get all sorts of diseases from it! Unfortunately, as one poster pointed out, the best way to judge these things is time, until we can detect more minute changes in peoples bodies from injesting this stuff.
A site of interest might be www.sweetpoison.com, from there you will find a million links to the dangers of various artificial sweetners.
