@jshaving

I don’t doubt this in a lot of cases, but when I see someone with a Gucci bag, iPhone and Apple Watch and EBT card let’s just say I have questions

Anything else I can understand, but why an IPhone. Smartphones are kind of a necessity nowadays.

They absolutely are not. They are helpful. You could likely make an argument that an internet connection is a necessity but that’s much cheaper/month than a reliable cell connection when paired with a budget tablet or laptop (chromebook ~150 bucks, internet connection for basic ~30 a month - new iphone 800-1200 bucks, 45/month or more for unlimited data).

I had to work 10+ hour days without a cell phone near me for the last few years - it’s not necessary. It actually made me kind of loathe the thing and how addicted I was to it.

I’m not really active on social media and I don’t play games or anything, so I don’t spend much time on my phone but it’s still very easy to waste time. Reading TNation threads is probably one of my main things to do, haha.

Two of my professors have so far refused to get smartphones. I’m always tempted to join them. My phone broke while I was traveling a couple of months ago and I had to go into a couple of gas stations to ask if they had a phone I could use. I remember sitting in my college’s library lobby while my mom used the phone on the wall (she was attending the college - I would accompany her as a young kid). Sometimes people would be waiting in line to use it (early 2000s). To me, using a public phone or asking a business to use a phone seemed very normal. The gas station employees seem baffled by my request. The first one didn’t have a phone, hence the second stop.

The world has really changed, even since I was a kid.

Finally feel better enough to do something today.

Wingin It Day 5
29 minute bike ride. No clue how far I went because apparently my Apple Watch wasn’t tracking correctly.

Always wanted to get into biking but never stuck with it. Maybe I can a better habit this year. It’s also a ton of work to move my nearly 300lb ass on a mountain bike with almost 2 inch wide tires.

I’d really like to cut down to about 275 before my trip to Alaska in August. So cardio, clean diet, and more conditioning type training are the future.

Current update post workout. Still holding quite a bit of fat in my lower abdomen but upon waking I can now make out a faint outline of a few upper abs (or maybe I am just hopeful, visible abs have never been a specific goal of mine. It it would be cool to have)

Also, I suck at posing/lighting myself.

More diet tightening and cardio going forward.

Finished up yesterday afternoon walking around the zoo with the two littlest ones. Our local zoo is small but offers a lot of cool things and is only a mile from our house. I estimate 2-2.5 miles walking.
