Whenever we try to boil things down to sound bites, we lose the nuance. Let’s not do that here. Take in what I wrote.
There are SO many animals in the world my dude. You don’t need to eat the same thing every day. Beef ribs one day, lamb chops another, pork chops another, venison roast, ribeyes, fish, fowl, all manner of seafood, etc. Open up a Bible, read the Noah’s Arc story, pick an animal and eat it.
I don’t feel there is room for alcohol in any human diet.
I did velocity diet as written and got lean while not losing that much strength but this run of apex predator by Jamie Lewis has been awesome. It’s easy as hell to have to protein shakes and keep busy then have a meat meal at night but the high carb once a week works well for something called “living life”
@emosms I think reading the apex predator diet articles from Jamie Lewis are worth it because he has some stuff about when to drink and ways to modify it. Also seeing the pre built framework he used is just useful instead of creating something from scratch. Hell in 30 minutes you could read velocity and apex!
Why are you so committed to these beers? 250-500 cal and your weight loss has stalled….theres a large portion of the answer.
These guys have a lot of great ideas contributed to this thread but I think the answer is simpler as of today for you. Cut out beers and cheating…THEN worry about drinking protein shakes instead of food during the day.
@T3hPwnisher I actually do agree with you. We had a conversation awhile back about this and since I’ve implemented PSMF on days I’m in the office and it’s worked amazing for me. I agree with what you’re saying in principle.
I don’t agree in this scenario because the OP is showing no intent to stop the cheating and the beers. Starting to eat this way so that you can squeeze beers in later on at night isn’t the answer.
Based on what I’ve read it seems OP is viewing it like a trade off. “Oh let me cut calories during the day, then I can fit my beers in!”
Totally agree that the body is looking for nutrients as you’ve said here. Looking for beers is not the same to me.
I also suspect we don’t have the full picture here. In my experience once you have those 500 calories of beer, you are either drinking more, eating more or both…
Mineral deficiencies can cause Intense sugar cravings. If your body doesn’t have enough minerals it can also impact your hormone production. And getting your hormones out of whack can also cause big sugar cravings.
Are you you taking magnesium and zinc? If not, I would Immediately get on 800mg of magnesium glycinate and 25mg of zinc per day, taken before bed, Immediately.
This is what addiction looks like, for sure. This is someone approaching the situation with a damaged mindset. I’ve been there as well. My paradigm was snacking. I was ALWAYS eating. I ate something every 30 minutes. Getting on the Velocity Diet, with the preset feeding times and windows, I had “right, but what about my snacks?” in my mind the entire time.
It took STARTING to diet to overcome that.
Similar to what @FlatsFarmer is saying. Fixing the source of the hunger would be great to combat the consequences of it.
Totally agree. I’m not as good at articulating in my writing as you, ha! I just think for it to work it has to be the Velocity Diet. Can’t be Velocity Diet with beers 3 days a week. That’s all I’m trying to say.
Alcohol seems like a different monster to me and is something that took awhile to realize how detrimental it is, I ranted about my experience with it in my log recently.
Velocity, but I concur as well. I don’t think alcohol has room in any diet, but I also understand that people “seek” it for different reasons. I’ve known many folks who quit drinking ONCE they got their eating under control. Or even their water intake under control. Dan John talked about how he quit having his drinks in the evening when he upped his water intake and discovered he was legit just plain thirsty, haha.
Haven’t checked these, but I think it’s more of a psychological think. Effort-reward, dopamine, e.t.c.
I agree about beer, it is wasted calories input, and sometimes irritates stomach and makes u wanna eat, but I didn’t these days. The reasons for beer are also psychological.
As u said ‘minerals’, I think reintroducing my breakfast cookies, ‘plant based’
almonds, walnuts, peanuts, linseed, pumpkin seed, 100 gr. each
-(pumpkin… Zinc? I used to get hell of a boner from pumpkin seed and oil when was younger)
added some oil (hempseed, pumpkin, e.t.c.)
flavour and taste ingredients like cocoa, carob powder, erythritol, sometimes 50gr raisins, other
I make 15-17 cookies and eat one a day, thus having light breakfast for 3 weeks during workdays (nice and easy )
If I stick to fixed recipy I can calculate macros and calories for a cookie, so I know what I do.
I get the idea for meat 'n eggs, but I don’t have time and desire for such a breakfast.
Breakfast is protein shake after getting up (fast and easy) and the cookie later on.
Moreover I truly believe human is omnivorous (as physiology clearly shows) and there is a lot of stuff in the plant based food as well.
Good fats to protein ~1:1 + very little carbs.
The only fast carbs is 50 gr raisins for… 15 meals, and these could be ommited.
The mix can take a lot of extra oil (except what is in the nuts and seeds) the more fat, the more full they keep u, needs to be calculated and eventually ommited.
And it is a great time saver.
I prepare breakfast snack for 3 WEEKS in advance, and I can eat that on the desk, walking about other tasks, almost everywhere.
By no mean the cookie is considered as much of a protein source, but as nutritients source and accountable ‘hard meal’.
The main protein source are shakes, which are also an extreme time saver and provide the base protein intake.
I don’t know, it fixes my food craving for the first half of the day.
Then I am less hungry for the next of the day as well.
But by no mean connected to whatever cheat and binging I did later on through the day or the weekends, which would be even more, if I skip breakfast entirely.
???
I keep weight for a long time.
I want to cut cause I never got bellow 20% or 25%(idk) for my whole life.
Last time I was lean at 6-7 years age.
And I occasionally overeat (f.ex. half a cake in one meal 1 week ago).
And the binging still keep me around 86-88 kg.
Twice I got to ~100kg and then dropped to bellow 90kg, but never to 80 and bellow or 15% max bodyfat.
