Cutting for Summer

grey, that little one looks the perfect image of innocence. What a doll!

Felt better yesterday afternoon. Did 7 or 8x3 bench squats @ 315; didn’t even expect to do this weight or volume after I chose the weight. Felt so good, I did some dynamic DL 3x10 @ 225. Knees a little sore, but oh well. Just think, 315 was a PR two weeks ago. Squats and deads have become my favorites.

I’ve been at this for a month now (well, this routine) so I guess some progress pics should come soon. I don’t know what it’ll show, having only gained 4 pounds. Should I wait 'till I hit 214 (March)?[/quote]

Wait till March. I’ll post one also when I’m down to single digits.

Did this thread get hi-jacked

grey, you’ll be done cutting and ready for summer by March?!

No Kroby. My deadline is end of April.
I just want the extra time to make sure I keep as much muscle as possible by refeading once in a while. Doing a few carbloading weekends when i notice muscles shrinking too fast for comfort.
Us older guys need more time to get rid of the difficult midsection. We also need to use as many tricks as possible to fool our bodies insane love of fat deposits…LOL.

Grey what are some of the foods you carb load with?Do you carb load for two days?

Grey- I’ll be following your progress and pulling for you!

Good luck.

I’d like to cut down a bit myself…

Jimmy…

Loading is a 12 hour thing.
Carbs are usually oatmeal, rice or pasta.
Some fruit as well and I will drink low fat milk cause I miss it. I keep the fats way down for that day but keep the protein about the same. Basically eat as clean as is possible and allow myself a few beers or a couple of scotches. Red wine is always an option. It keeps me sane.
I don’t know about you guys but I love milk. It’s the best thing in the world.
A tall cold glass of milk.

Thanks T-ray…thanks for your support. I gladly invite you to join us here and post some of your progress. It seems to help focus when you write things down,
It has always worked for me.

Thanks grey!

Just to introduce myself, I’m 30 years old, 6’ 208. I’ve been training for 27 weeks. (I’ve trained on and off for the last 15 years, but 27 weeks consecutively right now.) BF% unknown.

I’m into heavy compound work with high frequency. I’m doing a double block of strength/power focused training right now- in week 2. I’m using a 5x5 rep scheme on 2 heavy compounds per day and filling in with some chins and dips, possibly a couple other auxillary lifts if I feel like pumping something up. I don’t take many days off- 2 at the most per week, often 1.

I’d like to see if I can get down into low teens bf%-wise by summer… I’m not big on restricting calories, so that means I have to bust my ass. I do eat very healthy food though, and no crap whatsoever.

Beeelieve it!

Oh shit that’s funny. I can see my 4-year old doing the same thing. Luckily, my protein is kept on top of the fridge. Btw, she’s adorable.

I’m not cutting right now since I was sick for the whole month of Jan and lost 7 lbs (really sucked), but I am trying to add LBM while trimming some fat off my middle. I have a trip to Puerto Rico in May that I want to be studly-looking. Therefore, i just started EDT 8 days ago. I’ve set up 4 different w/o sessions and am going every other day with 15 min PR zones (with sets of 5 using 10 RM) and I’ve jacked up my eating as well. I’ve gone through it once so far. I’ve never done anything with such high volume in a short amount of time (RDLs were killer), so it will be interesting to see how it works and for how long I can withstand it. I’ve gained 1 lb back so far and “feel” leaner. I broke the cardinal rule and didn’t take measurements or pix. I’ll keep you all posted on progress.

Hey Beavis. Workouts are what keeps you from losing muscle. Diet is what you need to lose fat.
You cannot gain a pound and assume that it’s lean mass.
Shit I’ve been there for the last 25+ years. Here is the best advice I can give anybody…do not sweat the muscle…worry about losing the fat. I guarantee you will become everything you ever daydreamed of being…
Almost but not quite 100% of amateur bodybuilders get worried that they will lose important muscle mass. Who fucking cares.
You can stay with your 17 inch arms and 40 inch waist or diet down to a 34 waist and “real” 16 inch arms that will make you look like a God among the rest of the fatties.
The magic is not in the size but in the proportion.
I repeat for everybody…THE MAGIC IS NOT IN THE SIZE …THE MAGIC IS IN THE PROPORTIONS.

Don’t miss the boat.

just got back from Brussels.
Boy did I miss my workouts.
I hate when that happens.
Going to Italy on wednesday for a ski trip.
You can bet your ass that the first thing I do is find a decent gym.

If I can’t find a gym there I will have to get my workouts from flipping fiats over on their side.
I remember in Toronto a million years ago my brother and I lift bounced a porsche that was blocking us out of the way.
I can imagine the look on the face of the owner when he came and found his locked car 10 feet away from where he left it and on the curb…those were the days…

Grey,
Welcome home!Have a nice trip! hehehe
I tried your carb loading advice after I made weight, worked great. Thanks
Jimmy T TRAIN HARD!

Grey,

Two more weeks, just to see if I can pop my weight up over 230, then I’ll slowly transition to the cutting bandwagon.

I’m even picking up one of those micro scales this evening so I can measure my food intake to the gram if necessary…

Anyway, seriously, t-shirt weather doesn’t even start until June up here, so I’ve got plenty of time even without the big dietary guns.
