Curves for Women, Cuts for Men

Planet Fitness sounds like the worst gym in the world.

Sounds like some depressing future movie like 1984, lol.

Or Nazi Germany!

::: In thick German accent :::

“You vill wift da Veights und you vill be wery wery QUITE!!”

That’s the best part of the scheme. they get a ‘little’ progress and then not much more. Since they progress so slowly they keep on coming and pay for longer. If they made fast progress they might quit dude ;o)

People think like that, if they get it too fast they dont appreciate it and quit what works. If they get it to slow they quit because they don’t see results. You gotta give them just enough, like slaves. dont feed them to much or they will ahve extra energy to revolt, feed them too litle and they die.

Capitalism is so twisted and we all love it.

Puts on big furry commie hat and grabs 1.5 ‘pood’ kettlebell

“liberate yourself! train at home in the nude!” ;o)

We are not laughing at the enterprising soul who would makes money by opening a Curves/Cuts facility. We are laughing at the skinny/fat people that are produced by participating in such a frivilous waist of time and money as belonging to one of these so called “gyms”.

And laughing at the hourly staff at such a place. Who here can name one skilled trainer who’d proudly work at Curves/Cuts?

Sadly, it just doesn’t seem that the clientele at Cuts will receive very constructive guidance. They’ll likely be spinning their wheels … commited and feeling like they’re being productive, only to see little improvements. This seems to be the case with Curves. Hell, it seems to be the case at a lot of facilities.

It’s a skidmark on the underpants of society.

I guess. But it’s not resistence training. At least not the kind that can build any muscle. I know Curves uses machines that have NO NEGATIVES. In other words, a machine would be a combo bench press and row. You press the bar up and have to pull it back. It’s all done with hydraulic resistence and no negatives. Their marketing of that concept is to “eliminate injuries which usually occur by lowering heavy weights”. Too bad that’s where the stimulus to grow and build muscle comes from - the lowering of the weight. I think Curves (and Cuts too if they’re the same way) is a great disservice to the general population.

??? If that were true bodybuilders shouldn’t do anything but negatives.

If it your dream to open a Curves then by god you should open a Curves. As a matter of fact, you should make it convenient for your clientell and open up a Curves, McDonalds and Krispy Kreme in the same midwestern strip mall. You will be a millionare in a week.

I hear what you’re saying. I’m just of the opinion that it’s a good way to get poeple that would never have lifted a finger to at least do something, as pathetic as it may be, it’s better then nothing.

I second you both.

He may have stated it incompletely, but negatives are the portion of the exercise believed to produce the most stress leading to muscular adaptation. Any bodybuilder not lowering the weight under control is doing themselves a disservice.

Regarding women’s only vs. mixed gyms. This is my first experience seeing men work out. I had to look away to control my laughter. Women never, I repeat, never sit on a machine and spend their rest minutes ogling themselves in the mirror. These morons looked like parakeets in front of a pet store toy. Also, and I may be in the minority of women on this one, I don’t care to be checked out by anyone, male or female. Particularly when sweating my ass off, and making funny faces. Doing a good morning, however, with my boyfriend directly behind me, that’s another story…
I can’t believe Arcidi would have any of that.
As far as guys ogling themselves, women do that crap at the gym, too. They obsess over themselves just as much as the guys. They come in wearing paper thin sports tops, and stage make-up, to “work out.” Both genders have their share.

Why do most women seem to think someone is always checking them out? I have seen some very ugly women who seem to think everyone is checking them out. If a woman wants to avoid being checked out, how about NOT wearing that two piece bathing suit to do leg abductions? How about NOT wearing the see through “sports bra” with “TASTY” printed on your ass in glitter?

Further, if your ass is over 250lbs and it took laying on the bed for 15 minutes just to get your sweat pants on…NO ONE IS CHECKING YOU OUT.

You guys have to look at it from a business perspective. There’s a huge market for this type of gym. There will be plenty of men that go there. Some will be gay, some will be old, some very short on time etc etc…Whatever kind of member they will get, they will get members and with low oprating costs make plenty of $$$.

You can’t look at everything with an egotistical macho perspective. I’ll bet many of you would be happy to own a curves franchaise. The local one we compete with had 1000 members paying $40.00 monthly. That’s 40,000 per month in revenue. Oprating expenses are under 10,000 monthly for a 1500 sq ft facility with 3 employees. making 30,000 monthly is pretty damn good to me and it’s my personal goal.

So who’s laughing now? Some want bigger muscles and get them, others make millions on simple concepts that most people easily grasp. Hey, to each their own.
Excellent post.

Did anyone notice the guy in the pic using the lat pull backwards?? What a clown.

I guess you can get away with that when you avoid putting the pin under any plates.

Correct you are. The bad thing is, he’s probably a “trainer” there and will show people to use the machine like that. I see guys do this sometimes in my gym and it tickles me everytime.

Hell yeah it does. Don’t the thigh pads ring any bells? I just saw the “30-minute” slogan under the Cuts logo. That’s pathetic. If that’s all the time you are willing to spend you deserve your mediocrity. But it’s a start at least. Can’t wait to hear people bragging about their 45-pound Swiss Ball Presses…

Ted Arcidi does not own the Planet Fitness, he owns the N.E. Women's Gym. On the first floor of the building he has a weightlifting equipment store.
Women at that gym do not wear thongs, etc., because they go there to actually work out, not pick up men. I have never seen any of them checking themselves out, perhaps because they have enough self-confindence to not care what people think they look like. Surprisingly, the majority are in good shape and good-looking. Let's face it , the really big ones aren't working out, anywhere.

I have totally been caught looking at a couple of scantily clad fat chicks with my “what the fuck” face on. Maybe they just are no good at reading the difference between attraction and disgusted confusion.

It’s common knowledge that women constantly check out other women’s bodies and are very critical of flaws they see in other and themselves.

It’s more common for men not care what they look like, although this doesn’t apply to men know visit gyms on a regular basis.

So are women just more subtle than men about checking out themselves and others of their gender?
