Today: 201.3 in the afternoon with shorts and socks.
Not a bad day at first, but ended poorly.
Squat in suit: 495x1, 545x1, 575x1, 445x5
BP: work up to 375 down to the chest. First one didn’t touch very easy. Took it again with the shirt not as jacked up and it went up much easier.
3 Board: 375x3, 4 board: 405x3
DL: 495x1, 535x2x0 Looking at the video I think part of it is my form, I was starting too high, and the other part is I was probably beat up from Monday and Wednesday. Time to keep the raw work on Monday EZ and the Wednesday assistance moderate. I did hit a raw PR Monday on the DL, so that probably took away a little.
My head hurts.
1450 total. I guess that is what I would get if I went 2/3, 2/3 and 1/3
Strong but ugly. Work on your form a bit. also how much do you weigh? Those are some respectable numbers for what I assume is probably, what, a middleweight?? And are you training all three lifts on the same day? If so how often? Just curious. either way good luck to you.
I think the reason you’re missing your pulls is because your hips are too high (and probably a bit weak too considering you’re only starting sumos).
I had the same problem. I’d break the floor, my hips would be high, it turned into a wide stance stiff leg dead with a rounded back and it was just impossible to lockout from there!
Taking my stance out and doing alot toes to the plate and ultra wide sumos definately helped. As did conventional rack pulls from below my knees.
Squat (at a USAPL meet): 470 (I was on this day, I think I could of got 5)
BP: 315 pause/325 touch and go
DL: 435x5 sumo, pause between reps to let the bar settle-no bounce
465x5 conventional
Normally I think I don’t start with my hips quite as high. I just sucked alot more that day.

I would agree and add that you pulled that from the middle of your feet/toes as opposed to your heels. We basically call that the last inch. Right before you pull, push your chest up, knees out and sit back on your heels. Get your hips as close to the bar as possible and dont let them drift up.
Hanley is absolutely right in that even if you pull the weight like you did in the video you are going to have a hell of a time locking it out as you will basically have to correct your starting positon.
Your squats look strong. If I recall you are training with Putt so you have plenty of time to tweak your form.
We are bringing a 181 and a 165 to Collegiates this year. I will try to watch your session.
apw,
Do you know Putt? Do i know you? Putt called me after I posted those and chewed me out, because he has seen me do better on Sumo DL. We’ll get it figured out.
Tell your boys good luck.
See you in Denver.

Most people who have been around the sport a while know Putt. Our paths have crossed many times. It’s good that you have a resource like him close by.
If I get a chance I will introduce myself at Collegiates. We will have to see how they set up the sessions/flights. It can get pretty hectic.
Well,
a few weeks ago I was sick and was having trouble finishing workout, so I didn’t bother sending in my entry for Collegiates, no since in going if I won’t be able to do well. It worked out ok though, because I got an invitation to NAPF Championship in Aruba, so I guess it works out for the better.
last two workouts:
Monday 3-31
low Box squat: 315x5 (no belt), 345x5, 385x5, 365x2x5 those last 3 sets were pretty hard.
OL shoes on, ATG: 295x20 I had to rack it for a second because my shoulders/hands felt like they couldn’t hold on any longer, but I got it, almost falling 2x (once forward, once backward) because I wasn’t use to the different shoes and the extra depth. I thought I needed to go to the hospital for a while after that, my vision was blurry, and my head hurt like I had a migraine.
Tuesday 4-1-08
Decline BP: 255x5x5
DB BP: 60x10, 70x10, 80x6, 85x5, 70x13
Pullups: 3 sets of 7
Bench sucks so bad.
CG BP: 225x2x5, 245x5, 235x2x5 (I did 265x5 like this EZ a while back)
Incline DB: 40x10, 50x10, 60x10, 70x8 PR
Sumo DL: 365x5. 385x5, 405x5, felt same as 385, probably had close to my PR (435x5) in me.
pin pull: 405x5, 455x1 (didn’t fail, but knew I didn’t have 5)
lock out strength was absent today
trap bar Shrugs: 225x10, 315x10, 365x6, 385x5
abs x3x10
long workout because I had to combine two workouts since I am leaving for Florida tonight.
